Author Topic: Screw Sci-Fi---Let's Get DS On Soapnet  (Read 19918 times)

The latest rumors about Sci-Fi cancelling DS may be yet another false alarm. but who cares?

Sci-Fi has not promoted it in years and has buried it at 8AM. West Coast subscribers to Dish Network like me get it at 5AM! And they don't even show it half the time!

Soapnet respects it's shows, and it's viewers. Currently in 20 million homes and growing fast(Soapnet debuted in 7 million homes less than three years ago)Soapnet is the perfect place for Dark Shadows.

Currently Soapnet airs reruns of Ryan's Hope and Another World. Both shows are promoted heavily. The network has done cast reunion specials and has had cast members of both shows on the chatfest Soap Talk, which also did a DS episode last year.

When Port Charles was cancelled, many ABC stations dropped it before it ended or moved it to 2AM. Soapnet showed PC twice a day till the last day, and followed the show's demise with a 24 hour best of marathon hosted by the PC cast.

Soapnet does not diss it's shows or it's audience. Let's get Soapnet to pick up Dark Shadows, where it will be nurtured, not buried.

Log onto Soapnet.com today and ask for Dark Shadows. Ask for Port Charles reruns too, these two vampire soaps would make a GREAT double bill!

I agree....SoapNet would be a MUCH better fit for Dark Shadows than the SciFi channel currently is.  If nothing else, I have the feeling that if we expressed a group comment, or complaint, or suggestion to them, they'd be more receptive than SciFi is.

I'd hate for those of us who don't GET SoapNet to loose out, but I REALLY don't want to see it go off the air all together....I haven't seen the earliest episodes since the first run and I'm dying to.

Don't worry, Rainey, Soapnet is growing really fast--everyone should have it in a few years.

It'd take that long to get DS there anyway--let's get to work!

I also hope it will eventually go to Soapnet.  Maybe they won't edit it as much as Sci-Fi does.

EDIT: Why isn't my username showing up when I post? [confused_ani]

Welcome, Anna Collins!

Why isn't my username showing up when I post? [confused_ani]

Yikes.  Your profile is displaying a little strangely too.  The webmaster will have to look into it when he can.

I don't get Soapnet and given the sorry state of my area's cable provider, that's not likely to change ever. The Golf Channel? Sure. Some network devoted to professional bass fishing or surgery? You bet. Soapnet? Hell, no.

It gets worse if I move into the city, then I lose out on TCM too.  8)

^I know how you feel, Luciaphil.  It's the same with my cable network.  It took a long time for them to add Court TV, it will probably be a little longer for them to add Soapnet. :-

May I suggest Dish Network(which I get) or Direct TV?

Then you get Soapnet, TCM AND Fox Movie Channel!

I'm all for the move to Soapnet - especially since I just went to digital cable and now get it! Hee hee  ;).

I've been hearing rumors about an upcoming new Horror network - which might be a good alternative if Soapnet doesn't work out.  It might be a good idea in the long run because DS might appeal even more to fans of classic horror than it would the average soap fan.

I also think DS would fit better with SOAPnet than Sci Fi. IMO, SOAPnet treats it's show much better than Sci Fi...they've only dropped three shows in the last 3 1/2 years, and all of their shows have a pretty good time slot during the day.

I love their reruns of Ryan's Hope, Another World, and Dynasty. It would be great if they added DS to their roster of soaps.

Castle Bee suggests that DS might play well on a horror network. Good idea.

We already have Showtime Beyond and The Mystery Channel, both available to satellite and digital folks only. Mystery has played Hitchcock Presents and Night Gallery, plus a number of Hammer Films.
Showtime Beyond plays a lot of Vincent Price  and latter day Boris Karloff films.

Either or, along with Soapnet, would be a great new home for DS, but I think Soapnet would be best, because they'd promote it more and would do cast runion stuff.
