TV Witches - Angelique, 'Dark Shadows'
« on: October 06, 2013, 06:11:27 PM »
In honor of tonight's premiere of 'Witches of East End' (featuring Jenna Dewan-Tatum of the '04 DS pilot) on Lifetime, Zap2it.com brings you:

TV Witches from 'The Vampire Diaries' to 'Bewitched'

'Witches of East End' ladies

Angelique, 'Dark Shadows'

"Forced into a coven in 1795"? Huh? 1692, maybe. But 1795?

But then, whenever has anything written about DS ever had all its facts correct? Barely ever.  [hall2_rolleyes]  So I suppose we should just be happy that Angelique is included at all because a lot of these sorts of compilations completely ignore characters who appeared on daytime TV.

Judah Zachery was supposed to have had a coven.  I think it met in Bedford Maine.  I remember Julia pronounced coven with a long o like the word "cove" with an n attached.

During the Gerard storyline in 1840 there was talk of Judah's coven being revived.  The lawyer character played by Humbert was supposed to be a surviving descendant member of the original Bradford coven, I believe.

It was kind of amusing how every time a lawyer appeared on DS, he seemingly turned out to be a devil-worshipper of some kind or other...

The original concept for Angelique was that she had learned some herbal lore and spellcraft, presumably from her mother; she was a type of what today would be called a Hedge Witch, solitary apart from any family members who might have instructed her.  It wasn't until she showed up in 1968 that we began to get all the frou-frou about the Devil, presumably as a result of ROSEMARY'S BABY.

and of course, one of the images chosen for the story isn't Angelique at all, but Lara Parker portraying Catherine Harridge Collins.

Please remind me who Jenna Dewan played in the WB pilot?

to be honest by the time of the Judah Zachary storyline I was so tuned out on the whole thing I barely recall a minute of it other than being bored nearly to tears.

so the "coven" references went over my head.

Sophia, Willie's sister; she's the Collins' housekeeper/cook while he's the handyman.  Presumably, they made this version of Mrs. Johnson young and pretty so that Roger would have a plaything.  And the actress IS stunningly beautiful.

Did she get much screen time?  I don't recall the character at all.  Of course it was, what, seven years ago that I had the one viewing of the thing...

G, she had more to do in the script, but in the pilot that you and I watched, scenes were so trimmed that besides picking up Vicki's bags or opening the door for Barnabas, she mostly lurked.
