Hi Cassandra,
I believe it depends on what storyline appeals to you most.
Personally, I'm not crazy about the "extras" on the DVD's. There are 4 DVD's per set and each DVD has an interview with a cast or crew member, and so far, one has an an interview with Dan Curtis, himself.
The problem I have with the interviews is that the audience does not hear the question asked only the answer given. Because of this the interview seems choppy to me. I don't believe they flow very well but that's just my opinion. I am not at all faulting the person being interviewed for this. Jonathan Frid is my favorite actor from the show and his interview so far, is included on discs 1, 3 and 5. These are from the same interview because he is wearing the same outfit in all three. MPI is splitting the interview up on several discs. Each interview is approx. 5 minutes in length.
I could be wrong but I believe that most if not all of the interviews with the cast and crew are from the late '80's, early '90's.
It looks that you, like myself are a fan of Lara Parker. Just an fyi, her character, Angelique, does not appear on the show until the the last few episodes on DVD set 4. The 4th disc does have an interview with her.
The next disc, number 7 has the very end of the 1795 storyline and the beginning of the Adam and Dream curse storylines. I don't know who the interviews are with yet.
The interviews are with the actors/actresses that appear on the discs included in that set. For example, I don't believe there will be an interview with David Selby, if he did one, until the episodes he appears in are sold on DVD.
This show more than any other represents a time of innocence to me and I have great memories of it and several of the characters. Because of this, I do own all 6 sets and have ordered the 7th. I am grateful to MPI for selling the DVD's although I am disappointed with the "extras" and as mentioned in several other posts there are problems with glitches in several episodes.
Picture quality overall is very good but I was told there were problems with picture quality from the Master tape regarding early 1795 episodes, mostly from set 5, and these episodes have the poorest picture quality. At least my set 5 has the most glitches as well.
I hope this helps in your selection.
