Banshee: Cinemax Blends Sexy Pulp with a Tragic Love Story

With all the positive buzz around this show, I can't wait to check it out. It's just icing on the cake that it has two DS alums.  [snow_wink]

Even though it's not necessarily the type of show I might normally watch, the first ep definitely has me quite intrigued - certainly enough to stick with Banshee - particularly given the DS connection and the Alan Ball pedigree.

And for those who missed the show, here are two caps:

Ivana Milicevic:

Ben Cross:

And for those of you who are into hairy hunks (and you all know who you are  [snow_cheesy]), the lead actor in the show, Antony Starr, might be an even bigger draw than the DS connection/Alan Ball pedigree combined:

Antony Starr:

Though be warned, some of the sex makes what happens on HBO and shows like True Blood look like it's from a PG-13 movie. But then, maybe that's another recommendation for you to watch.  [snow_smileydevil]

Hey, did you say HAIRY HUNKS??? *whiskers twitch attentively*

Those are some awesome screen captures, MB.  Golly, Ben Cross looks old.  I guess he's further on than I had realized.

I am going to look for clips on Youtube... I just may have to add this to my Netflix queue next year when the discs come out...

G.  who would be delighted to see more shots of the delectable Mr. Starr in weeks to come...

Unless I'm misremembering, Cross was 42 when he shot the '91 DS and he turned 43 shortly afterward, so that would make him 65 now - though he still may have been 64 when he shot Banshee.

While searching around the Internet today, I discover this nice behind the scenes featurette on the Banshee Web site:

Banshee: Town of secrets

It features several remarks from both Ben Cross and Ivana Milicevic. And there is also a link to a featurette entitled "About the show," but I didn't have the chance to watch that one yet.

Plus, the Web site also has a link to watch the entire pilot:

Watch Episode 1

There's an age restriction form that has to be filled before viewing, so even beyond what I've already said, that might be a good sign that you might not want to watch online while the kids are around.  [snow_wink]

Ivana Milicevic and Ben Cross shared their first scene together in this week's ep. Unfortunately though, they were never both in focus in the same shot, so I'm posting separate screen caps of them:

There was also a very interesting twist concerning their characters that I didn't see coming.

And for those of you into Antony Starr, he had a bare chested scene doing pullups:

And he also had a scene in which another part of his anatomy was bare. But I can't share that here.  [snow_wink]  So, if you didn't catch it, you'll have to wait for the DVD/Blu-ray release.  [snow_cheesy]

Antony is luscious.  unfortunately from the trailers and clips it all looks much too violent for my personal taste.

Nice to hear that Antony is getting such good... exposure.

Things have really changed in Hollywood (and its outliers--I guess this series is being filmed in New Zealand?).  In this clip, Antony Starr talks about getting multiple stitches from various mishaps doing stuff you would expect a stunt double to handle in this day and age.

Some of the stitches were on his lip--I wonder just how that was written into the script?

The header mentions sex scenes but very little is mentioned or shown:

I just finished watching the season finale, and one hell of a season finale it was! I can't wait for Season 2, mostly because, like the president of Cinemax, I can't wait to see how they write their way out of much of what went down in the finale.

As for the stitches on Starr's lip, they didn't look the least bit out of place because I seriously doubt his character went even one ep without having at least one huge brawl. It would have been more out of place if he didn't have stitches on his lip.  [snow_wink]  But for all the violence in the show, the articles are not lying when they say it's the characters' personal stories that are really the heart of the series, particularly the love story between Starr and Milicevic's characters. In fact, I'd say that their rocky (to say the least) love story is really the most satisfying part of the show.
