** Upgrade **
« on: April 19, 2003, 05:44:23 AM »
The forum's system files have been upgraded from YaBB SE 1.5.1RC1 (RC = Release Candidate) to 1.5.1 Final (which was released on April 5th). This upgrade required that all the mods we'd installed for the previous version be reinstalled. All seem to be working fine with the exception of the Extra Smileys. The smileys display in their pop-up window but no longer display in posts. However, everyone should continue to use the extra smileys in their posts because it's just a matter of time before I track down why that mod isn't working with this new version. ;)

I just discovered on YaBB SE's site that there's an updated version of this mod for 1.5.1 Final. Reports on the site are that it works fine. But just to be on the safe side, I'm going to test it on my own Linux setup of the forum before I install it for real. ;)

I don't suppose there is any connection with your upgrade, but when I arrived today, I was greeted as a guest and had to sign in!

There must be, Josette. I got the same greeting.

Oops - I forgot to mention that. But then, I suppose posting it here wouldn't have done much good, anyway, now would it, because people would have to log in before they could read it. :(  ::)

But by way of explanation, the new system stores login cookies differently than the old one did. Also, the info stored in them is more secure now because of a new encryption algorithm. [thumb]

Have there been font changes on the home page?  It's not really important......I'd just like to know if I'm imagining things.

Well, there is a slightly different choice of fonts. The old template offered verdana, arial, helvetica and sans-serif, whereas the new one offers verdana, arial, helvetica and regular serif. The font sizes are all the same, but I could swear the listings in the recent posts box look bigger. :-

Maybe it just the fact that all links are underlined now...

Just wanted to thank you guys! The Italian is gone (which while it was kind of cool for things like "nuova" was somewhat cumbersome when I was trying to reply to IMs and couldn't figure out what "cita" meant).

In other words, you are all very much appreciated  8)

I'm not sure I follow - is this how it will be from now on, or is it another temporary problem until you get things set the way they used to be?

The cookie for your login on this upgraded version is now stored.  It was only following the upgrade that you needed to create another one.

Then why am I still arriving at the login page every time?

You may have forgotten about checking the "Always stay logged in" box.

Right after asking the question, I read someone else's post in another thread and thought that might be the answer.  I looked for it, but evidently it's not on the forum.  So, when I arrived tonight, I made sure to check it on the login page.  If it still happens the next time, I'll let you know!!!!
