Test your powers of observation
« on: April 12, 2003, 07:24:04 AM »
What's wrong with this picture of Julia and the portrait from Friday's eps?  Anyone can take a guess (except MB, cuz this would be too easy for him ;)).

I don't remember Julia holding that candleabra in the scene so Im not sure if this is it or not.  And as for the portrait I don't see any ring on Barnabas' finger. Either that or I really need to get some eye glasses!  ;)

You know, Cassandra, I noticed the missing ring quite a few episodes ago, as well. It was when the portrait was put back up after Kitty started her Josette thang, I believe...then the next time the portrait was shown the ring was back on.  [confused5]

Eyesight must be improving because I don't see the ring either. If that telltale mark was on the third finger, left hand, I'd say Barnabas was pulling the "No, I'm not married" routine with Josette. So, is he a widower because he killed Angelique or is he still married because she keeps turning up like a bad penny at the most inopportune times?

He's not wearing the ring...all [idontknow]right...who's got it?
Cassandra:  I have a potion.  You know it well.  As soon as she drinks it, within an hour, she will go to sleep and have the dream.
Nicholas:  I am much to talented to spend my time drugging drinks.

In the picture or screen capture, it looks like he isn't wearing the ring cuz the glare from the LIGHTBULBS in the candle stands obscures it.  In reviewing my tape, he does have a ring on.  But thinking the lightbulbs were odd I went back to old footage and saw that before there were those fake looking flame lights in the candle holders, not clear lightbulbs with the glaring flilaments.  Dunno if this is the answer you're looking for, but that's my observation. You're definitely on the right track.  [bigok]  Does anyone know why they're different?

Why ask why??  (always wanted to write that!  ::))

Well let's see....

...these new ones are better with special effects.

...the others burnt out.

...there was a GE sale at TG&Y and the ever budget conscious DC snapped them up.

Otherwise I have no clue. [confused5]

Midnite, thanks for sharing that gorgeous photo of Grayson!  Love it!

Those are the wrong bulbs on that electric candlabrum.  I bet that Garth crashed into the thing on a bender and smashed the ones that belonged there, and Sy couldn't locate replacements in time for the return to '69!

Barnabas' ring is pale but visible, although I do seem to notice that his index finger is not holding the cane as the other digits are, the wolfs head is not very clear and the medal on Barnabas's coat seems smaller?

This may be an illusion, does Barnabas' cane appear to resemble a duck? just noticed this today.

Well, as Minja pointed out, it IS the lights.  They were utilized throughout 1897 and should've been changed back when the story shifted to the present.

It's no problem if you didn't notice the difference.  After all, it went over the set dresser's head for more than a week after the return to 1969.  The fixture will be "modern" again as of Wednesday's 2nd ep.

The chandelier that was added in the drawing room set at the start of 1897, however, becomes a permanent fixture in the present-day drawing room.  Apparently Barnabas' time tripping not only rid the house of Quentin's ghost but also altered the decor. ::)

Enjoyed all the guesses!
