OT Mother

Not sure where to put this since it is off topic.  My mother passed away today from ALS.  She was diagnosed in late February 2012 and already in the late stages of Bulbar onset.  She had lost about 90 % of her ability to speak and swallow as well as most of her ability to walk in the past week.  She was ready to go and asked me yesterday to pray she passed soon.  My mother was the reason I became interested in Dark Shadows and I regret she never came to one of the fest with me.  During the time period Dark Shadows was on TV we talked about Barnabas Collins like he was a member of our family.  She loved hearing about the cast when I would return from a festival and what they were all up to.  It was a blessing she passed in peace surrounded by her four children and in her own bed. 

Teresa, please accept my condolences on the passing of your mom. And I can definitely relate to your DS relationship with her because my mom was also a DS fan. We often watched the show together when it was originally on, and she always liked to hear the details of what went on when I came back from a Fest. And who knows, maybe one day our moms will meet up in the hereafter, swap DS stories, and exchange knowing looks when it comes to how much their two children are still involved with the show. 

So sorry for your loss. My mom was interested in DS and liked hearing some of my convention stories. Take as much comfort as you can in the memories of the good things that you shared with her.

Teresa, I'm so sorry for your loss.  I'm sure it must be a relief to you that the manner of her passing occurred the way you described.

My condolences, Teresa!  So many of us understand and know how sad and difficult it is.  You are in my thoughts!

My thoughts and prayers go out to you, Teresa! I too had a death in the family recently, so I can kinda relate to where you are coming from. Thank you for sharing your experience here. I also watch DS with my mom. I'm glad your mom passed peacefully.

Teresa, I am very sorry for your loss.  I'm glad your mother was able to pass peacefully after such a painful illness.  Thank you for sharing your memories of her.  My healing thoughts go out to you and your family.

Thank you all so much for your words of comfort.  They really do help and I always told my mom how special my Dark Shadows friends were.  You all are beautiful people.
