brooklyn DS "tribute"
« on: April 07, 2012, 01:28:18 PM »
when i was walking home in brooklyn last night i walked past this dive, hole-in-the-wall bar on the brooklyn/queens expressway called "boulevard tavern".

to my surprise out of the corner of my eye i saw in the window there was a poster featuring the familiar 1968 shot of barnabas and julia around b's coffin alongside flyers for other upcoming events.

turns out that on saturday april 28th from 10pm-4am there will be a DS "tribute" of some sort at the pub. i'm not sure exactly what that means. i inquired with the bartender and he said they would be showing episodes of the OS on monitors throughout the evening. there are also DJs "cyclonus", "jose" and "charlie the slut" spinning at the event.

my 4am nights are long over but i plan to check out at least the early part of the event to see what it's all about.

the address of the place is 579 meeker avenue, brooklyn ny.

I wonder whether the DJs will spin either DS music, or songs with DS themes... such as that Book of Love song "Witchcraft" with the line "Angelique takes Barnabas from Josette!"

Could be fun!  If you go, do let us know your impressions.

Thanks Ms. C!  What fun!  I heartily approve that DJ Cyclonus will open his set with "No. 1 at the Blue Whale," and no doubt patrons will also swing to the "Carolyn Collins Stoddard Frugette," aka "Back at the Blue Whale," aka "David's Radio."  I heartily approve of tracks by Siouxie and the Banshees, The Sound of Liberty, The Misfits' legendary "Dark Shadows" all about the lost & lonely at Collinwood ... sounds like a truly memorable evening!  THESE people need to take over the Festival programming!  I do still wonder what "DJ Charlie the Slut" will program.  A special set needs to be dedicated to the original villain of the series, the debonair, gloriously sneering Roger Collins, for those who cherish the gloriously monochrome afternoons of 1966.

I think it's a sweet touch to include the 1991 series as well so that fans of that get to feel included.

Thanks again for the link.

Perhaps a little Bauhaus on the setlist as well? Bela Lugosi's Dead would be appropriate.  [easter_evil]

If you hand the waitress a dime for her tip, just remember to tell her not to spend it all in one place.

in an interesting bit of "breaking news" on this event...

it was just announced on the FB page that there will be a live video chat with none other than KLS via skype.

nothing earth shattering...she will be discussing her role on the OS and needless to say she will be promoting the new book. still it certainly takes the tone of this little affair up a few notches. the skype happens at 10pm sharp.

in general KLS is joining FB DS pages left and right. she's really giving the book a heavy promotion.

What a shock.  [easter_cheesy]  Though wouldn't it be interesting if she pushing so hard because it's yet to be selling as well as hoped.  [easter_undecided]

I wonder how many times she'll recollect via Skype about things that never really happened?  [easter_grin]  She hasn't trotted out the Frid/hangers story in a while...

Though it's certainly true that her appearance raises the prestige level of the event. And I hope you have a great time.  [easter_wink]

ha!

at the book signing her latest "recollection" was another supposed incident with david ford a la the infamous teleprompter story...

in this tale she and ford were having some sort of heated exchange at the evans cottage when apparently sheets of aluminum flashing came crashing down on them from the ceiling. as it went without missing a beat ford shouted "call the roofers!" and that's how it went on air. [easter_rolleyes]

i suppose this could have happened during rehearsals but i can't recall such an incident on the series itself.

and she keep getting confused about the timing of her casting as josette. lately she's been pronouncing that the role was created as the vampire's doomed love. but of course she had already been playing josette's ghost long before anyone had ever even heard about barnabas collins. [easter_rolleyes]

and the book is nice but it isn't really a "must have" if one has her other pompress recollections.

there's a bit about the 2004 pilot(whateves)and a few pages about her visit to the set of the new film but otherwise it covers pretty much the same ground as the previous books.

and certainly not enough about the film to appeal to burton/depp fans as a separate group.
