Carol, what is a vitrectomy? It sounds painful.
It's removal of vitreous fluid that entered my eye when my retina detached. In some cases it gets reabsorbed with time. My second opinion Dr said it could take up to 18 months. I was willing to wait until my vision started to go down hill within the last month. Now I have no choice. The fluid has to be removed so I can see plus my retinal specialist plans to laser back of eye to seal off weak areas. I have an idea how it will be removed but I really don't want to know the specifics--and I'm a nurse!

I'll be in something called "twilight sleep"--will feel, see or hear nothing--but be able to answer questions if he needs to ask them. I had this with my scleral buckle insertion in October and woke up in recovery room. Hubby was an angel during that recovery time because I was a bitch with swollen eye, eye pain and depression.
