We loved that little scene - Frid letting loose a bit more - not so "tight" or something -- so reserved.

Be that as it may, that son-of-a-bitch Barnabas.  Who in hell does he think he is??
Magda should have said, "You stupid SHIT!"
(and spit on him right away)

And what happened??  It turned out Magda was right after all!   She kept telling Barnabas about her bad feelings toward the seance, but once again, he chooses not to listen to anything else except his own wants & needs.  It seems Magda's been right about alot of things that take place at Collinwood!

I was impresssed that she could actually read from the Collins Family History book.  Those Gypsies must have had great schooling around the campfire.

Yes, Magda could read but she had a little trouble with numbers.  She said Quentin left Collinwood at the end of 1797 instead of l897.  Never did any of the actors dream we would have VCR and be able to rewind the "small' mistakes.  Boy am I glad there is no rewind in my life.

He's been a shit all along. They've all been bigots to the core. Kind of appalling actually.

I don't know; I think that he (Barn) was very kind to her when Sandor was murdered.  He said that they should not hurt one another again, but grieve together.  He was positively mellow and gentle toward her!  Not his usual stiff self. Poor Magda!  Just goes to show what a curse spoken in anger can do to the curser's life.

Where are they getting these bodies, Mulder,  are they making them?

Yes! I thought about that too!!  It suprised me when I saw her take up that book and proceed to read out every sentence so clearly.  I guess Magda's alot smarter than everyone gives her credit for.;-)

Yeah, both Quentin and Barnabas were total bastards in this episode.  Both of them could really use a course in stress management, don't you think?

Maybe Professor T. Elliot Stokes could teach them...he's usually cool as a cucumber. [lghy]

Hey gang,

I think that the Dark Shadows writers might have been more concerned about (or sensitive to) gypsy sensibilities.  I mean, have you ever heard even one WASP/Anglo Dark Shadows character ever say something nice about the gypsy people?  No!!!

You hear characters such as Barnabas, Quentin, Evan H., Edward, Judith, Trask, etc., say such things as:

"No more of your gypsy lies."

"Is this another one of your gypsy tricks?"

"I don't want to hear any more of your gypsy gibberish!"

"A Collins married to a gypsy?  Joshua Collins must be turning over in his grave!"

"What are you doing here, gypsy?"

I realize that the Dark Shadows writers devised these story lines back during the seemingly (and relatively)unenlightened times of the late 1960s'.  However, I would hope that in today's society, where different cultures, religions and nationalities are embraced and celebrated as part of the diverse mosaic of our nation's rainbow coalition, that the Dark Shadows writers would be more "attuned" to the feelings of each and every group, including the gypsy people.

In fact, I for one, would like to see that very familiar PSA aired with some of the beloved Dark Shadows characters.  You know the spot I'm referring to:

"Eh, I, Magda Racosi, am an American!"

"Begorrah, I, Jason McGuire, tis an American!"

"Mon dieu! I, Josette Dupre, am an Americain!"

So, as Roger Collins is wont to say:  "E Pluribus Unum!"  (Out of many one.)

Maybe you can think of other Dark Shadows characters who might be appropriate for that timely PSA?

Bob, this looks like it may call for a cameo from Leslie Nielson: "I'll handle this, I speak Gypsy"

You are all going to laugh or be appalled but when DS was in it's original hey day one of my good friends was a gypsy.  At least my mother told me her family were gypsies.  I have no idea why this was so.  They did live in a house even though it was not in the best condition.  The lack of supervision there was unbelievable.  Thank goodness my mother never knew the half of it.  Every adult in our area thought of them as gypsies.  There were three of us and we were inseperatable.  I am still best friends with the other non- gypsy.  Her parents took us to the movie Hell's Bells at the drive-in.  Something my parents would have been horrified that I saw at the time.  There are so many crazy stories that I can't tell here.  They still make me smile.  The gypsy friend drifted apart from us by 8th grade.  Wonder what ever happened to her?

Birdie--still wondering why that family was considered gypsies.  They had a very American last name
