Was looking for something else and this popped up:

Well......that was concise, informed and not in any way condescending (as many pieces about DS are)

But how astonishing to read that the author of this piece seems to know for a fact something that the members of this forum routinely debate like mad.....the idea that Vickie was the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth Collins Stoddard.  He states it so baldly you'd think Liz told him herself!!

Nice find, Luciaphil!  Thanks!

Yes, what a refreshing change.

Well, the truth about Vicki's parentage wasn't ever resolved on the show, so it can be a subject up for debate. But while an actual answer isn't a part of DS Canon, that question probably has the closest thing to a canonical answer than any of the other questions we just love to debate because we know that when the DS Powers That Be noticed Alexandra Moltke's resemblance to Joan Bennett, they decided to depart from the idea that Vicki was Paul Stoddard's daughter (which Art Wallace had originally plotted in his Shadows on the Wall bible) and to instead make Vicki Liz's daughter. And even though it was never overtly played out on screen, Joan Bennett had mentioned on several occasions that she had been told that Vicki was indeed Liz's daughter and that she played Liz's scenes with Vicki with that subtext in mind. ;)

Probably one of the most noticeable scenes showing that occurs in episode #127 after Vicki mentions that she felt there was a resemblance between herself and Josette's ghost and that perhaps Josette is one of her ancestors, and Liz turns away with a troubled expression on her face but quickly covers by saying that would make Vicki a Collins (back in '66 & '67 the present day family were all supposedly direct descendants from Josette and Jeremiah) and she hardly thinks that's likely.

Thanks, Luciaphil!

I wonder if the author is the Rick Moody that wrote The Ice Storm.

Thanks also Luciaphil find it amusing that the mention
of running home from school to watch it was pre VCR.
When i told my daughter we used to run home and watch it she asked why i didn't tape it and finds it hard to believe there were no VCRS.( Oh well at least i don't remember when there were no tvs!)

That's good enough for me.  Case closed.

Ya know, at the 1999 Fest, John Karlen revealed that he is the illegitimate son of Jonathan Frid.  I'd accepted this premise until a few days ago when I realized that Jonathan is not OLD enough to be his father.  ;)

I wish it were that simple.  But as was discussed in the voluminous thread on "Victoria Winters' Parentage" a couple of months back, there are valid reasons for questioning how much weight should be put on Miss Bennett's subtext.

I bet if you asked Dan Curtis, he'd say Vicki
is Elizabeth's daughter.

Yes, he would. Mark Rainey has told us that the position of DCP was that Elizabeth should be Vicki's mother.

In the aforementioned thread, this was also thoroughly discussed. There were two or three DS writers who were writing during the early period on DS when the Vicki mystery was being played out.

It is my contention that the plan of author Francis Swann, who took over this aspect of the storyline from Art Wallace, was quite different.  All of these points were discussed in exhausting detail, so I won't rehash them here.
