Question for the Gang

"It's been sooooo long!"


Since what????

Ok, am I missing the obvious here? I was following the
whole routine between Laura and Barnabas about the
picture, and I thought she wanted Magda to burn it
because she didn't want anyone to see it and give away
the fact that it really was a portrait of her done a hundred years ago.

Am I ok so far?

Then, when she goes into the Herbal Essence routine
purring, "It's been so long, it's been so long," I had
no idea what was going on! So long since WHAT????


Since the last time she had her picture burned?

Since she saw herself in that dress?

Since a guy said he wouldn't let her get lonely?

Since Dark Shadows was on?


What was that all about?


Can I buy a clue from you guys?

Oh Thank Gawd.....I'm not the only one who's Clueless in Collinsport!!!  

We've got too many people casting spells (VERY nice incantation today Barney!), too many "now-their-dead-whoops!-no-they're-not" characters and too damned many blonde haired bitches.  

Somebody please tell Roger Davis he can't do a British accent, (what the HELL was that voice over?) and then remind Barnabas that he's not there to stroll down memory lane ("I think I knew her when I was a child")....but to save poor David, so GET ON WITH IT!!

(....pant, pant.....I've been wrapping presents for HOURS so I'm a little cranky!)

Ok, here's my take on it.  We know Laura hasn't been "right" since Quentin extinquished the flame in the urn.  She's need assistance from Dirk, who is somehow holding the spirit of AMON RA, if that's the correct spelling.  So the portrait burning is having a kind of healing or beneficial effect on her.

We do know that Laura can sense things from afar.  Remember that she heard Sandor trying to open the entrance to her tomb, so I guess she could also feel the flame as it burned her portrait.  Anyway, that's my guess!!

I may be wrong about this, but here's what I think.
The portraits at Collinwood usually  aren't just
portraits. Barnabas attracted Willie by having his
portrait have a heart beat. He scared Willie
and David by making it's eyes glow.
Angelique was able to influence people or should
I say put a spell on them through her portrait.
Remember Roger acting weird after staring at
Angelique portrait? Also Barnabas was able
to hurt Angelique by having Sam Evans age
her portrait using a stiff brush with sharp bristles.
Let's not forget Josette's portrait. The first one
on DS that was strange.
I won't get into Quentin's portrait, because then
I'd have to use spoilers.
Anyway the reason I think Laura acted as she did
when her portrait burned and what she meant by
what she said is this. When her portrait burned
she could feel the flames. It had "been so long"
since she'd burned.
There are people who believe that having their
picture taken steals parts of their soul. Perhaps
these portraits do have a part of the person in them?

I think the latter part of this is definitely true for those who inhabit Collinwood - I wouldn't turn my back on anyone's portrait in that house! But as to the earlier part, it hadn't been very long since she'd burned.  Didn't Quentin say he'd seen her consumed by flames in Alexandria a year before?  Unless she needs to burn every month or so.  

Maybe Laura just has hot pants. ;)

Wow, you all have such detailed, involved rationalizations; I'd just assumed that it had been "so long" since 1785 when Laura had been alive to have her portrait painted.

I think I understand what you're saying. It was warming the cockles of her heart? Kinda like the difference between warming your hands by the fire and putting them into the fire. It was warmth she felt by portrait proxy and she hadn't felt "warm" for soooo long.

This is where my confusion comes in. I thought she burned in Alexandria. Is there a difference between Laura and the Phoenix burning? Which one burned in Alexandria?

Been laughing ever since I heard the Roger Davis voice over.  Than we have Laura with her very private moment.  

Maybe I am just tired.  Why did I agree to go to a cookie swap and also bake cookies for work.  I think someone has my portrait and is making me do these strange things.

Since what????

It is my impression Laura was indicating it had been so long since she was that particular Laura Stockbridge, to once again be within her ghostly remains or inner spirit  so to speak.... she had not had those feelings in a very long time.  
Although since Barnabas said Jeremiah and Laura had no children  it is a mystery why she spoke of them.
