Gee, look what we have here:

The Worst Movie Released Every Year Since 1950: 1970: Myra Breckinridge

I must have a high bad taste threshold because I can't recall anything in the film reaching the level of bad taste they claim the film contains. I just thought the film was bad - especially compared to Gore Vidal's brilliant novel. But I'm sure a DS version would have been epic!  [easter_grin]

The Rusty Godosky sequence is probably as tasteless as mainstream films got in the late 1960's. Maybe it was more explicit in the original version but the sequence as it is exists now is relatively benign. I think that censorship is somewhat different in the 21st century. I certainly would never call Myra Breckinridge family friendly but I don't think that the film would receive an X or NC-17 rating today. Nor would Midnight Cowboy, for that matter.
I do think that the behind the scenes cat fighting and power plays would make a great season on Feud.

(I've never seen that scene as tasteless. The only way it could possibly ever be seen as tasteless is if it's taken out of context because within the context of the film, as within the context of the novel, it's a very powerful sequence that makes a very strong point regarding the relationship of the genders and even gender itself. Certainly it's one of the most powerful sequences in the novel. It is a shame, though, that that power doesn't come across as strongly in the film because of how the director (who should have never been allowed to direct in the first place) diluted the point by making it more campy than it should have ever been.)
