[It's up to the first poster to come up with a set up, and then each following post will either complete it or fill in the blank(s). And, as always, whoever posts the set up is certainly allowed to post their own completion/fill in as a follow up.]

Interpretative dance was always one of the most interesting aspects of the festival costume contest.  [snow_wink]

Sometimes they were clever. The tribute to Annette Funicello called Beach Blanket Bat was hysterical. The image of one of Laura's fire minions as a dancing salamander was certainly unique. Interestingly, they were both done by the same person.

I neglected to mention that the person in both instances was Adriana Pena, who was quite a key figure in the early days of fandom. I believe that I have mentioned her continuing saga called The Collinsport Chronicles. It was a very well written project with a unique point of view. Maggie was a U.S. senator who was also a heroin addict. David was a teenage werewolf. And there was the tempestuous romance between Barnabas and Sheriff Patterson.
She appeared in one skit as Mrs. Johnson. Adriana was quite a method actress. She brought a broom onstage and swept her way through her scenes. Unfortunately, she had an extremely thick Bolivian accent and a pronounced stutter which rendered her dialogue sound incoherent. Entertaining to be sure. But definitely incoherent.

([pointing-up]  I know of Adriana Pena, but I had no idea she did that sort of stuff at the Fests.)

Her stuff was interesting, to say the least. The first one that I remember is back in the Newark days. What appeared to be a pile of laundry appeared on stage. But it was no mere laundry. Underneath was Adriana who proceeded to discard layers to the tune of Killing Me Softly. The performance became known as The Dance of the Seven Tablecloths. And I can tell you that it's impossible for me to listen to the song without thinking of that moment in Newark.
Adriana brought a level of creative insanity to the festival. And you just did not know what she would come up with. There was a very 1940's Elizabeth, complete with fire poker. A counselor from Camp Collinsport, with the wake up call "Okay, dead meat." And Megan Todd as a delegate to the Democratic convention, accessories with an animated bat hat from the store Hats in the Belfry.
And I would like to point that Adriana achieved a cult following that transcended DS altogether. People had absolutely no interest in DS whatsoever wanted and expected an update on what she did in the costume contest.

She's more articulate on Facebook but nowhere near as interesting. [snow_rolleyes]
