VHS collection - to sell or not to sell
« on: January 05, 2011, 07:28:21 PM »
I only require a few more volumes in order to complete my DS DVD collection.  With that in mind, I'm thinking about selling off my 200+ MPI video tape collection.  They take up a lot of room so it's tempting to put the whole set up for sale, but I seem to recall hearing that scenes were edited out for the DVDs.  IIRC, they cut out some bloopers.  I wonder if it's worth holding on to the VHS tapes?  I'm not even sure  what I'd get for the collection since VHS has more or less gone the way of audio cassette tapes.  Anyone else sell their tapes or are you hanging onto those?

i tried selling my vhs ds tapes years ago with no takers. the most notable thing cut from the dvds is the bathia mapes blooper where a stagehand yells out her lines because she cant remember them. its on the mpi blooper dvd or blooper tape. the other cuts are minor technical errors and then they stopped the paractice of editing anything out.

The only tapes I would hold onto is the DS Revival because they screwed up the DVD version.  Other then that I would try if you want to.

over the years i've gradually been upgrading to the dvd format and a few years ago i sold nearly all my DS tapes to a funky record/book/video store in portland called "strange maine" that specializes in offbeat titles. i think i only got about $150.00 for them but i just couldn't schlep them around anymore.

the only tapes i kept were the laura collins storyline because at the time "the beginning" series had not been released in its entirety and i couldn't bear not to have that storyline should it become unavailable. i ended up completing "the beginning" but still have those tapes around almost out of sentiment. i would sell them if i could get a good deal though.

i say if you get a fair price unload them.

Thanks for the feedback!  I'll give it some thought.  Ebay might be the way to go.

I would love to get Episode One of the original since it has extra footage and episode Twelve of the Revival. Has anyone seen them around on Ebay?

Just the first ep is currently on ebay.  But Eps 1 and 12 have been auctioned together at the Fest-- separate from the rest of the series.  So there's a reason for you to attend.  You mustttt.  [snow_wink]

Not to dissuade you from attending a Fest because, as Midnite said, you musttt. But the entire '91 Series seems to be available on Amazon - though it looks like it's through partners rather than Amazon itself. But in the past I've ordered through their partners and have always been satisfied. In fact, I've gotten some really great deals...
