       Though maybe it's because I love Virginia Vestoff as Samantha so much, but I've never been able to picture KLS as Samantha since the day I first learned it was originally intended that KLS play her.

The early scripts, where Samantha is cast as a grieving widow and mom, seem to be more in line with the traditional KLS stoic heroine mode. When the character changes into more of a manipulative, vindictive shrew, that's when Vestoff really gets to shine. Could KLS have played that Samantha? Perhaps, perhaps not. But I don't think that she would have been allowed to.

(I agree - there's a very good possibility that KLS wouldn't have been allowed to - and the storyline would have suffered for it.)

It might have been fun, maybe even enough incentive for KLS to stay. Or perhaps Samantha would have been given a less interesting storyline.
