Tnx, all.  I had been a lurker for sometime.
This is a really cool site.  I just noticed this morning that when I click on a new screen, the old screen just slides slowly off to the left.  Cool.

Originally, I had only watched about a month or so of DS back in the fall of 1967 when I was freshman in college, so I was just familiar with the 1795 sequence.

I rediscovered DS on the SF channel last December, subsequently  borrowed tapes from a friend of a friend, so I've now seen about 80 per cent of the episodes.   I'm looking forward to seeing them all - then,  no doubt, starting over again.

I chose JoeNathan mainly because, if given a choice, I would like to LOOK like JC, though he was a really good actor too.

Dear Joe/Nathan, glad to hear you are an admirer of our favorite show.  I hope you have enjoyed the post 1795 episodes; some fans feel that the series never improved upon that storyline (my personal favorite storyline is Leviathans, which is a real dark horse; a lot of fans think the show really "jumped the shark" during that period).

Interestingly, Joel Crothers is mentioned a couple of times in Felice Picano's late 1970s diaries published in the compilation The Violet Quill Society (I think that's the title).  There's also a very interesting interview with him that was done in 1969 shortly after he left the series.  From reading that, it would seem that his reasons for leaving involved broader areas of discontent beyond the usually stated ones of his DS roles not giving him sufficient range (I used to wonder about that, given what the writers did to Joe during the character's final months on the series!).

Best wishes,  Gothick

My response the other night must have been one of the "lost" posts.

I just pointed out that I was a freshman in college in the fall of 1967, too!!  Only it wasn't until the middle of my junior year that some friends acquainted me with the show.  So, I saw just a little over the final year "as it happened."

A few years ago I finally saw all the tapes (except the pre-Barnabas part) and then on SciFi since mid 1996.  This time, I finally got to see that pre-Barnabas part.
