Not exactly a flattering review of the GoldKey comics. But then, the comics were hardly flattering to the show, now were they? I know I share the reviewer's pain -

- though definitely not his opinion of DS as "mildly entertaining." Grr...

That's fascinating about vampires being banned from Comics Code compliant books in the 1960s.  I vaguely recall reading about this.  Blame the insidious Freddy Wertheim and his crazy "seduction of the innocent" campaign.

I wasn't impressed with the Hermes book for different reasons.  The copy I saw had reprographics that were a bit off.  The color palette seemed a bit cooler (bluish) than the originals, and the sharpness of the images wasn't entirely up to snuff.  However, I have always enjoyed the Gold Key adventures to one degree or another.

Another review: From Friendly Ghosts To Gamma Rays: Dark Shadows, Smurfs and Plastic Man!
(While I could pretty much care less about what they say about the comics (it's not secret that I'm not a fan), it is great to see Barnabas considered to be one of the three vampires that have changed the history of the vampire in popular culture. (The other two being Dracula and Twilight's Edward Cullen.))

A discussion: Dark Shadows (Gold Key Comics)

Love this comment:

"The Gold Key Dark Shadows was so weird and perplexing to regular
followers of the show at the time, it was almost as if the writers &
artists didn't even watch the television version!"

because I couldn't agree more - especially with the latter part...
