Preparing for Burbank- what to expect there?
« on: July 05, 2010, 09:08:28 PM »
After decades (!) of attending DS Festivals on the East Coast, I am finally making my West Coast debut this month, barring any last-minute disasters.  Now, what should I prepare for in Burbank?  How are the accomodations at the Marriot and its surroundings?  I understand there's a Denny's across the street, but what else is there?  Should I be wearing a sweater inside the ballrooms, and insect repellent outside?  Should I bring food with me if the restaurants are expensive, and if possible, what snacks?  BTW, I'll be on JetBlue flying in (my first time on a plane!) from JFK- what to expect from this airline?

Expect smog and hazy sunshine.
The fest itself will be the same, but be glad for that Denny's. LA goes on and on and on. Unless you have a car, you won't be going any further than Denny's!

Charles your Jetblue experience should be quite nice.  The seats have individual televisions with many channels and Jetblue still serves complimentary food and beverages.  I've experienced them being quite timely as well.

Jet Blue--low prices and generally good service.

In addition to Denny's, the strip mall across the street has Panda Express, Del Taco, a Greek cafe, Subway, and an ice cream place.  The ballroom in the convention area next door gets chilly like at most hotels.  The outside temps are probably going to be in the upper 80s, maybe 90, but dry and not humid, so I don't know nothin' 'bout insect repellent.  The Marriott should have most services you'll need, including self-service laundry.

Congrats on your first flight!

Charles,

I've used Jet Blue several times and never had a problem. Their on-board service was nice.  I don't know if there have been any changes since then about what is served on the plane during the flight.  That said, I would recommend that you pack yourself any snacks or easy carry/pack sandwiches so that you are sure to have what you need on the flight.  You can always get a beverage on board, even if you might have to pay for it - I don't know if you do or not.  It's been three years since I flew Jet Blue.

Congrats on your first flight!

Nancy

There's a Subway restaurant across the street?  Perfect!

Charles, prior to the Vista event, on Fri morning, Joe Integlia and I would like to take you to see Joan Bennett's star on Hollywood Blvd, and to Graystone Manor in Beverly Hills, 1991's Collinwood.

Jet Blue has DirecTV and XM Radio. I can listen to the Mets @ San Francisco Giants for the last few hours of my flight from JFK to Burbank on the 15th.

Satellite radio, eh?  Wonder if I can get Howard Stern.......

David- Wow!  My very own Hollywood tour?  OK- as long as we can get back to the hotel in time for the Vista event.  BTW, Greystone is sacred to me NOT because of the 1991 DS, but that's where Luke & Laura got married on General Hospital!!!!!!

looking forward to seeing u in hollywood/burbank. i lived in los angeles since 1986 and have yet to be bitten by any mosquitos. it will have to be a quick tour on friday unless your extending your trip beyond the festival. there would then be more time for sight seeing. i live 2 blocks from the chinese theatre and JAMES STORM lives next door to me. see u soon.

Across the street from the hotel they have (at least back in 2008) McDonalds, Subway, Del Taco and Panda Express so they have much more walkable food options then the Newark Airport Hotel. If You Have a Car they have Carl's Jr's a few miles away.
