Hello everyone!
« on: August 22, 2002, 05:33:20 PM »
I have 2 questions....

1. I have placed on back order "Angelique's desend"     written by Lara Parker.  Is it worth the $7.00 or so?

2. In yesterdays episode, whe the sheriff was pulling up to the "old House", did I hear correctly Barnabas call Mrs. Johnson Mrs. Howard Johnson?  I backed up the scene several times, made it louder, and still it sounded like Mrs. Howard Johnson!  Anyone else hear the same thing?

Just curious....
PEACE TO ALL!!!!

I got mine for free and I still think I paid too much.  But that's just me and my opinion.  A lot of people here enjoyed the book thoroughly and will no doubt tell you so. If you haven't read it, I strongly suggest you get Mark Rainey and Elizabeth Massie's "Dreams of the Dark."  That was well worth the money I spent.  Cool, new original character.  The rest of the characters were true to the series and they used Vicki (not stupid, brainless, Vicki either).

Hello DS Fan!

Hmmm ... I guess it is all a matter of taste.

I read "Angelique's Descent" and found it an enjoyable read.  IMHO, LP writes very well.  The way she delves into Angelique's shady, turbulent past is done very convincingly, and her descriptions are at times even lyrical.  Enjoy!

But I don't recall the "Howard Johnson" lines.  How funny!  ;D

I second this
Mark's book is so much more of an enjoyable read! :)
found the story of Angelique to be rather dull!

There is a recent review on Stuart Manning's websitehttp://www. collinwood.net/features/review/angel.htm
Please check out the review. I think it is well worth the $7.00...Miss Parker did an excellent job considering it was her first attempt at a novel. I am looking forward to her next book...
It is a good day because I am still ticking!

The book is in my Dark Shadows collection. I remember Lara Parker reading part of the book at a Dark Shadows Festival, when it first came out. Yes, it's worth the $7.

I read "Angelique's Descent" and think Lara Parker did a good job, especially for a first effort.  Although, IMHO, "Dreams of the Dark" better captures the feel of the show, Parker's book is well written and is worth the $7.00.

Some critical remarks about DREAMS OF THE DARK:

It didn't have Julia Hoffman in it. Where was Julia?
--Anonymous

Julia rocks. We want Julia.
--Name Withheld

What? No Julia? You should be sent to Windcliff!
--No Name Submitted

Windcliff is too good for you. Without Julia, this book is no better than a Roger Davis adventure.
--Name Also Withheld

This is an exciting book about an invisible Dr. Hoffman.
--Unsigned

The authors must have been on sedatives.
--Identity Hidden

The simple reality is that you have a deep-rooted fear of women doctors who help build bodies out of corpses, isn't that right?
--Dr. X

I love the scene where somebody calls Julia on the phone, and she tells them they're full of shit.

I enjoyed both books extremely! I feel the amount you paid is well worth the read...
I would love to hear of more books from  Lara Parker  as well as from Mark Rainey.
I would also love to ask Mark to sign my copy's of his book should he ever attend a Dark Shadows Fest in California.
I feel you will not regret reading either book... :)

I thought both books were fun reads. But as I've said before, I liked "Dreams of the Dark" best of the two. It was more than a re-hash of the old story.  For instance, they did a great job of working the new character Rathburn into the fabric of Collinwood. It really worked for me. [thumb]

:DI've read both and enjoyed them tremendously. I guess I was craving some on-going storylines of DS so for the moment, these books satisfied my need!! I'm quite impatiently awaiting more books.  :P :P

Don't remember the flubbed line.

Yeah, okay.  Just for that, I think the least you can do is send me an autographed copy.  It should be inscribed as follows:

               To Connie -
                      You're full of shit -
                       (you unfaithful, lying bitch).
                                      Love always,
                                                     Mark

Ya know something I've always wanted?  An autographed picture of David Selby with the words:  "To Connie - you unfaithful, lying bitch.  love always, David"
But I never had the nerve to ask him.  LOL
