As we celebrate Mother's Day 2010, let's not forget to celebrate some of the DS examples of motherhood:

I think one of my favorite Mother's Day scenes in DS is from 1897 when Laura and Minerva are musing together on the joys of Motherhood.  The subtext just makes this absolutely hysterical!  In fact I may need to go home tonight and play that episode again.

Julia very quietly mourning over "poor Motherless Eve" (which came from a very obscure poem some well-read fan tracked down) gets an honorable mention.

And let's not forget the kind, gentle and loving Naomi Collins; a wonderful woman and mother who not only lost her two beloved children, but also had to put up for far too many years with a crabbed and callous husband and his insufferable, officious and oh-so-frustrated sister/shrew.

Clearly, poor Naomi did her time in Purgatory while she was still here on Earth.

PS Maybe it's just as well that Judith Collins-Trask was never "blessed" with children?

As for Judith...my recollection is that Trask had his way with her so quickly that there was no time for anything that might lead to conception.  I'd say Judith had a lot to be thankful for.

Could Judith had been a mother?  I was under the impression she was of the age where she would have already went through menopause?

trying to determine the ages of the characters during the time travel storylines will drive you bananas(and often starts an argument to boot).

total suspension of disbelief is in order.

during 1795 joan bennet's naomi collins was simultaneously old enough to have given birth to a man in his forties and young enough to have a daughter who was ten(to say nothing of the unfeasible age gap between the siblings).

in 1897 her character judith had a brother who was thirty years younger than she was.

go figure.

But then in 1795, Barnabas was only suppose to be 25  ..so I'm gonna assume he was a heavy smoker/sunbather for his first 20 years.

i'm not sure where you're getting 25. i don't recall barnabas' age ever coming up in specifics.

besides vampires don't age. so if barnabas was 25 in 1795 then he was 25 in 1967-71 and that's definitely not how the character was written or played. he was the proverbial "distinguished older gentleman".

like i said total suspension of disbelief is needed during the time travel stuff.

Barnabas's age wasn't mentioned, but I believe it was stated that he was born in 1770, which would make him 25 in 1795.  Maybe Angelique really wore him out in Martinique.

I don't think any of Judith's brothers were 30 years younger than she, since I don't think Judith was as old in 1897 as Joan Bennett was at the time of playing her.  (If so, then how old was Grandmama?  And why didn't we see Baby Judith in 1840?)  I think Judith probably was still capable of conceiving in 1897, because if she were not, I'm betting she would have felt she must disclose that to Trask when he proposed to her.  Wouldn't that have been a touching scene for daytime drama!
