I saw that they have an entry for it (and the Mikey Douglas thing too) but I'm not sure whether either one is currently slated for video release.  They sometimes put placeholders up for films that may or may not be released in the coming months.

It's really too bad the footage for Grayson's deleted scenes from that movie were never recovered.  If a DVD came out with those, it would be a HUGE event in Hall-o-holic circles.

Wasnt this one of those non porn adult films of the period to be released with an X rating?

I don't think this is the porn considering it is listed on IMDB.com and I don't think they list porn films.  Here is the description in the spoiler feature!  [spoiler]After a catatonic episode on a railway station platform, Jacob Horner is taken to "The Farm", a bizarre insane asylum run by Doctor D. After being cured, Jacob takes a job as an English lecturer and begins a disastrous affair with Rennie, the wife of a colleague[/spoiler]

And the link!  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065692/

The MPAA created the X rating to simply designate an adult film - not necessarily a sexually explicit one (many X rated films were awarded that designation because they were excessively violent). But the the porn industry co-opted the X when they imposed their own XXX rating (which had nothing to do with the MPAA) on their films, and it was all downhill from there. The MPAA briefly tried out an A rating to distance itself from the X, but then settled on the NC-17.

Midnight Cowboy, an X rated film, won Best Picture in 1969. A Clockwork Orange was an X rated Best Pic nominee in 71.

I think "Road" got its rating due to such things as a brief flash of full frontal male nudity and a graphic abortion sequence.  The "adult themes" of Jack's casual sexual encounter ("veddy Noel Coward") with Grayson's character may have been part of the motivation as well.

Frankly, the movie is a mess, but might be one of those reclaimed by fans of mid-century offbeat explorations as a curio for deeper regard.

I saw the film on Cinemax 20 years ago. GH is grand in that scene, tho I was surprised to see her topless from behind! As with most of the non porn X films, it seems pretty tame now.

As with most scenes shot from behind, it's most probably only an illusion that Grayson was topless. Within the reality of the film, her character was certainly topless - but I strongly suspect that Grayson, like nearly every other actress in that situation, was wearing some sort of something. Well, unless she was going "method" in her performance.  [b003]

As with most of the non porn X films, it seems pretty tame now.

Some are even laughable.  [lghy]  And I'd include some of the porn films from back then. There's nothing erotic about laughable dialogue and situations.  [wink2]

Yes indeed. Last Tango in Paris, which tries a little too hard to be shocking, is great 4 laughs these days. Midnight Cowboy is still a superb drama but hardly the shocker it once was. Only 2 of the non porn X films fully hold up: Ken Russels The Devils and Clockwork Orange, neither of which was meant to be erotic.

If folks are interested in what happened in the "cut" scenes, there is a description in the Grayson biography or you can check out the book from your library.  It was very popular in the 60s/70s.  Suffice it to say in the two cut scenes, Jacob was coming back for more  S.E.X and Grayson's character was accomodating though in both scenes, as written in the novel, there was physical violence between the two which wasn't in the first scene (which is the only one in the film).  In the last scene, Grayson's character, Peggy, is cruel to Jacob (who deserves it) and it ends I think with him punching her.  Nice, huh?
