Bob Austin's audition for Barnabas' "brother?"
« on: July 01, 2009, 10:25:44 PM »
My friend Chris at the Horror Host Graveyard site recently informed me of a Springfield, Massachusetts horror movie host named Bob MaCabre.  The character was portrayed by the late Bob Austin.  I listened to an interview with Bob on the HHG site and, early on, he said something very interesting.

It seems Bob attempted to audition for the role of "the star's" (Jonathan Frid's) "brother" approximately ONE week before DS went off the air!  Dan Curtis apparently didn't show up for the audition as he was in California at the time.  I find this most curious.  I wonder if this was going to be an 1841 PT character?  At any rate, it's well worth a listen.  Mr. Austin talks about all of this early on in the interview but doesn't return to the subject after that.
