(Yup, they're real, and were at their biggest in the 1930s.   I thought of linking to them, but they're actually totally pornographic comics about knockoff versions of famous cartoon characters.   Organized crime distributed them.   Some are very well drawn, as well as the originals, some are funny, but they get a bit same-ish after awhile.   Well, that was today's research project for me...)
