Greystone Sites
« on: August 16, 2008, 06:16:10 PM »
Sort of in honor of today's picnic at Greystone I thought I'd post links to these two Greystone Web sites that I recently came across while doing research for a future topic:

Just Above Sunset
November 27, 2005 - Greystone Mansion

Greystone
Park & Mansion

(This site briefly references DS)

Brings back happy memories of my own trip to Greystone with two extremely lovely female companions (and you know who you are  [ghost_wink]) during the '05 LA Fest...

Thanks, MB!  Looking forward to that future topic.   [ghost_grin]

Hmm, I never noticed the "Photography in park by permit only" sign; did you?  I've taken lots of pictures of the grounds, even since Nov. 2005, and seen a lot of people doing the same thing, occasionally in full view of the Park Rangers.

It wasn't on display when we were there (oops - I let the identity of one of my lovely companions slip  [wink2]). Maybe they only put it out when there's a production shooting on site?  [idontknow]  That would make sense...

Though quite obviously the person who put up that site didn't pay attention. And it doesn't seem that they had a permit. Otherwise I'm presuming they wouldn't have made the comment that they did about the sign in the back entrance to the courtyard. But then, some people think the rules apply to everyone but them. And if they didn't have a permit, they're lucky they didn't get caught....

This was our first time noticing the sign as well.  Unfortunately, Greystone has become very people-unfriendly since our previous picnic last year.  On our arrival, the rangers hassled us and told us that we could not have a picnic (not even at the designated picnic grounds) unless we had a picnic permit (we were never told about needing a permit on our trips to the mansion in 2003 or 2007, nor have I  ever seen any "Picnic by permit only" signs around the park either). You can imagine how the "Photography by permit only" sign rankled as well.  [ghost_tongue]  Nevertheless, we all had a fun time, and it was especially nice to meet Zahir for the first time. [wavey]
