A question for everyone:

If a film were being made about the making of DS, what actors would you choose to play Curtis, Frid, Hall, Bennett, etc.?

Regards,

John

Hmmmmm. . .Glenn Close as Grayson??? She doesn't strongly physically resemble her but I bet she could get the personality down pat.

In another thread we have been discussing actors
for a new DS. I think the best ones came up with
were:
Rupert Evertte for Barnabas
Hugh Jackman for Burke/Jermiah
Kevin Spacey for Willie

P.S. I agree with you Julia99, Glenn Close would do a
great job as Julia and I bet with hair and make up
she could even get her look  ;)

Jeremy Irons as Jonathan Frid (with his hair died a tinge darker).

Glenn Close would be a pretty good Grayson Hall, IMO...

I think Alan Rickman would make a great Nicholas
Blair ::)

Glenn Close is a possibility for Grayson, but I think I'd like to give Meryl Streep an audition for the role. She's great with accents and she has performed with Grayson in "Happy End" so might have some insights she could call upon for the part.

I also love the idea of Alan Rickman. I'd love to see him in anything!

Maybe James Marsters (Spike in Buffy) for Don Briscoe?

Even though I can't stand Jack Nickolson, it would be fun to see him play...
Louis Edmond ;D .

I agree that Glenn Close would be good as Dr. Hoffman.

Picture, if you will, Sam Shepard as Barnabas.

He (S.S.) can appear dark/cold (he's quite an accomplished actor), and that might be interesting.

As Maggie, Megan Follows (perhaps you've seen her in the various Ann of Green Gables).

Annette O'Toole, perhaps, in the formidable role of Liz Stoddard.

I would not make the profoundly stupid error of attempting to recruit name actors. I woudl get entirely unknown, mid 20's actors to play the actors. Youth has appeal, after all.

I would maybe involve one name actor to play the role of John Herbert Frid, the gifted man who made the show. It would have to be Matt Damon or Justin Timberlake as a young Jonathan Frid, though the latter obviously lacks Mr. Frid's acting abilities. Timberlake's ability to adlib and his capability to learn and adapt, however, would aide him in a successful portrayal of Frid, if it ever could come about. . It would be absolutely necesary to include the real Mr. Frid though, as an obviously mature Frid. He could play himself tirelessly promoting fan conventions in the 80's at least. In addition, it might be viable to consider uses the real Frid's voice for whatever actor plays him; after all, his cultured and sophisticated delivery helped raise his acting to the level of art at times. Few can match him in this respect. A deliberate imitation woudl be bound to fail as it would necessarily be derivative and third-rate because such brillant delivery is more of a reflection of Frid's own innate gifts rather than anything he learned at Yale or in his career; in other words, Frid cannot be taught.

I would touch on the stars' homosexuality. DS wasn't the Brady Bunch, and it would be painfully blah if some bigot attempted to whitewash the lives of the DS stars. A little campness, a little dark humor, and the homosexuality of a number of the male actors, if properly exploited, would be the only chance such a biopic would have at success (and a major success at that). Otherwise, obviously, it would be an MPI home video only release, which is terribly pathetic.

I get your point, but it's hard to play goofy casting games with unknowns.

In most cases, discussion about which individuals in the cast are gay is getting into personal and private information, and that's not the purpose of these forums.

I have no casting suggestions to make, but there are plenty of name actors who don't have an established screen persona to get in the way of them doing a slightly out of character part.
