Chiller's Movie Page Featuring Dark Shadows
« on: July 21, 2008, 08:41:28 AM »
Greetings Cousins,

I am new to posting on these boards, but I have been a longtime reader, and today I just wanted to show you all the nice little blurbs Chiller added to their website about House and Night of Dark Shadows.  You can read the rather straightforward commentary here:  http://www.chillertv.com/Movies/   The two films are currently featured on the home page of the website as well.

In addition to adding the Dark Shadows films to their website, they also included two mentions of Dark Shadows in their email newsletter.  Here is a screenshot highlighting the Dark Shadows mentions.  One is about the House/Night of Dark Shadows soundtrack, giving special recognition to Josette's Music Box.  (Hopefully some of these "softies" are working on the new film, and they will keep this tune for the 2009 version, but that's for a different thread.   [ghost_wink])

What remains of the story is genuinely spooky, but the film cries out for a restoration. Are you listening, MGM?

This bit in particular is nicely said.  [ghost_wink]

And both films will run on Chiller 4 times each in Aug.
Can the show be far behind?

HODS just ended.
I only watched part of it.
The gore scenes seemed slightly cut, but was cut less than the film had been on local TV stations.
I saw the film on CBS in the 70s & on channel 9 in NYC in the 80s~~cut to ribbons.

NODS just began.
Both prints are clear & vibrant.

I'll be watching both films in full during one of the
Aug. airings.
I hope they get a good rating for these~~that could open the door to the series.

I just finished watching both (again) and I have to say that I prefer HODS over NODS. The whole vampire story just intrigues me. Maybe I'll just watch them again since they are on in August and see if I change my mind. So cool to see Lyndhurst again.

As Time Warner (mine at least) doesn't carry it, I'm curious to know whether they are being shown in HD and whether the channel has commercials or not.

That's obviously not a good way to retain an audience.  ::)  >:(

As far as I know, Chiller goes into around 25 million homes through it's two satellite carriers, Dish Network &
Direct TV. Direct offers an HD feed, don't know about Dish.
No cable companies for Chiller yet, but that shoud change soon.

Yes, too many commercials, but they do seem to show films & TV shows reasonably intact, though there is some editing,

The programming isn't bad:
they do show recent trash like Sci Fi Channel original movies, but they also show old classics as well.
Three great shows on Chiller:
Night Gallery
The Sixth Sense (LONG unseen)
Alfred Hitchcock Hour

As Chiller expands, we need to get DS on it!

David.

The Sixth Sense (LONG unseen)

I loved that show back in the day. And it always managed to feature an amazingly talented array of actors in its guest cast. It was canceled way before its time. But then, so what else is new...

I have to hope that Chiller is considering running the series since they're now airing the movies. However, as has been posted on this forum in another thread, if you go over to Chiller's board and click on "Witch List," you can ask for them to start airing the series. In fact, there are pages and pages of a thread asking just for Dark Shadows. I've posted there more than a few times asking for DS.

As for the movies, I didn't care for either of them. HODS was just another vampire story and may as well have been a Dracula movie. The only thing it had in common with DS had to do with the characters and some of the storyline with Josette, Julia's cure and Barnabas and Willie. It ended there -- too much biting and evil. As for NODS, that was edited so badly, it was pathetic. It has potential, so I'm hoping the restored version fills in the obvious gaps.

Does anyone know how much the SCI FI channel paid to air DS for TEN Years??
