Old movie?
« on: January 08, 2008, 11:29:00 PM »
While watching the old VHS Collector's edition tapes of DS, there are ads at the end for various items. One of them is a movie by Dan Curtis called "A Darkness At Blaisedon".  Has anyone here ever seen it? It has some of the same DS actors, as well as Marj Dusay, who is one of my faves. I have not been able to find a copy-any suggestions on how to get one? [snow_huh]

In 1969, A Darkness at Blaisdon was a pilot for a proposed
primetime drama series about a pair of ghost hunters.
Curtis produced it, Sam Hall wrote it & Lela Swift directed on standing DS sets.
I think it was shot over a weekend.
The DS background score was used.
Thayer David & Louis Edmonds had supporting roles.

It was WONDERFULLY creepy!!
It aired once only as a special, but the series was not picked up.

MPI released it on VHS. It's out of print, not on DVD, but you should be able to find it used at Amazon.

I remember they showed it at the few Halloween parties I attended back in the day. It really was quite well done, if a little Scooby-doo-ish. It's too bad it's not out on DVD, I'd snap it up.

Now, if some kind soul would recover Art Wallace's The House and/or Pomegranate Press publish the script...... [snow_grin]

I emailed MPI and asked about the title, and they said, of course that the VHS was out of print. But the final sentence was intriguing..."It is not out on dvd... YET" (Emphasis mine). Perhaps there is hope? [snow_smiley]

No copies of Blaisdon at Amazon.
I just checked.
I'm glad I kept my old VHS of it!

But I'm sure it'll turn up.
At Amazon, everything does.

Really?  I looked yesterday and there were two used copies - one at 39.99 and one at 89.99

btw, don't forget the "e" when you search - Blaisedon  [snow_wink]

I hope I'm not violating list guidelines by posting this, but I believe that A Darkness at Blaisedon (in some cases listed as Dead at Night) is available for free download on a number of file sharing sites around the Net.

Last year a friend sent me a DVD of the show that had been downloaded for her by a friend.  It was fun to watch it again.
The late Kerwin Matthews, who just passed away last year, was the star.

I seem to remember a mention in ShadowGram earlier last year that indicated both A Darkness at Blaisedon and Frankenstein would be coming to DVD around the same time toward the end of the year (2007).  Does anyone else remember this?  I wonder if MPI now plans to release Blaisedon closer to the date of the Festival.

Oh yes:

--- Dan Curtis Productions (DCP) tells SG: "Dan's 1969 ABC pilot DEAD OF NIGHT - A DARKNESS AT BLAISEDON is due on dvd this year, along with the 1977 trilogy DEAD OF NIGHT as a double-feature. Dan's adaptation of FRANKENSTEIN will be issued, with commentary by John Karlen and Robert Foxworth. Another double-feature is COME DIE WITH ME (with Kathryn Leigh Scott) with SHADOW OF FEAR and INVASION OF CAROL ENDERS (with Karlen and George DiCenzo), plus NIGHTMARE AT 43 HILLCREST (with Karlen). These are projected for late 2007."
So they're 1 for 4 with that timetable for releases.   [snow_rolleyes]

I do recall the info, and though it is not really my place to share this (maybe Midnight can add more), during the past year or so, I've been in contact with another poster on this board who was working on the "Darkness at Blaisedon" MPI release.  Can't say more (because I don't know any more!), but it is likely to come to DVD in the near future (probably much sooner than either HODS or NODS from Warners...LOL), and the other DCP "Wide World of Entertainment" productions (like "Come Die With Me"  and "Shadow of Fear"), as well as the TV movie "Dead of Night" ("Bobby" et al) are also in the works.

I'd like to know if "Intruders" might be released on DVD.  So far, I've not seen anything about it, but I thought it was an excellent TV movie that deserves to be on DVD.

I've have been trying to find the Oliver Stone's horror film "Seizure" with Frid. I can't find it
anywhere. Not even on Blockbuster and Netflix.
