Some guy, early 20s and not at all shabby comes into the car and says something I didn't hear.

He said he was "too young for this" and left the car.  Could not have imagined until he returned to say more that it was his dad.  Ugh.

Anyway, I stood when I clapped; it seemed only right.  Was in the last row and all I'd seen was the doors opening and their heads disappearing-- it  was over in a split second, but others closer saw them hit the platform.  The cops reappeared, plus the conductor, and the man was told his ride was over.  Drunk woman was deposited in the closest seat where she promptly passed out.  Had to wonder what happened to her when the train reached the end, and what her reaction was once she sobered up but couldn't figure out why her face was scraped up.  Which wouldn't have happened had they noticed the "Do Not Lean on the Doors" sign only inches from their heads, and the constant announcements to mind the freakin' gap.

Anyone else?

There was also the part when the conductor or the cops asked the guy if he was going to get off and Sheenasma volunteered, loudly, "He's working on it!"  ;D

Do things like this happen every year or is it just on the east coast? ::)

Hey I have a question, are the lines that long every year?  I have problems standing for a long time, is this a challange every year?  Was thinking of coming next year when it is on the west coast.

I think the East coast lines are longer.

No that can't have happened.  You lying liar.  Did it?    Kudoes to sheenasma for having that punchline loaded up and ready to go in her head, at a moment's notice.... either that, or some people are just quicker than I am.... I think that's probably it....    Of course, never underestimate the contribution of the straight man....

I too applaud MsC's avatar...  by the way, "Tarrtytown" rather than Tarrytown... intentional?

Oh, no.  I've never known Sheenasma to be anything but quick witted.  Infact, I think she was more in the ball this year than she's ever been.

I was in a real nostalgic mood tonight and while browsing thru the archives, I came across this thread. I hadn't registered on this site yet after like 10 years on the old Sci Fi board but I was there on the train. I had been to Tarrytown several times before but this was my first trek to the big city. Have to say, it couldn't have been a more memorable train trip .. the posts were 100% accurate! Whenever somebody from our group who was there drops the term "Watch the Gap", it always brings about smiles and a retelling of the story. I do miss the fests and our fan get togethers.
