OT: New Vampire Series Coming This Fall on CBS
« on: May 19, 2007, 06:06:59 PM »
Since no one else has posted about this, I figure I might as well.  ;)

A few days ago CBS released its new schedule for next season, and I noticed that there's a vampire series, Moonlight. It appears to be a blatant cross between Forever Knight and Angel, though the preview (available here or here (for a larger version)(click on the Moonlight link) for anyone with a high speed connection) looks like it could potentially be pretty good. Though one certainly has to worry about how a series like this will do on one of the Big Three broadcast networks - especially considering it's going to air on Fridays.  :-   So, even if it turns out to be really good, it might be short lived...

It looks very slick, but then, so did the promos for Blood ties...

a blatant cross between Forever Knight and Angel

Nice choice of words, MB ...  "blatant cross" ... and speaking of of "Forever Knight" and the word "cross," I ran into someone today with the last name of "Lecroix" (lots of French-Canadian heritage in this town), and I did think of "Forever Knight" for an instant ...

Interesting how this pumped up "Nick Knight" sleeps shirtless in his coffin ... from the preview, this "vampire" doesn't delivery in the spooky/eerie category like J Frid did.

Pay attention more closely - he sleeps in a lot less than just his shirt.  :D

Well, only time will tell that. It's not really fair to judge anything based on a 2 minute and 42 second long preview...

I've read preliminary reviews about the show and some say that it's very typical and boring, as these genre shows go anyway. Nothing special about it. But, I'll tune in to the pilot, see if it sparks my interest.

If I think something might interest me, I tend to avoid reading reviews until after I've seen it for myself. And besides, though reviews can sometimes be a good reference tool, they're not always necessarily a good reflection of whether or not something will be successful. I mean, just look at the TV shows that had huge buzz and great reviews this past season, yet they tanked after airing only a few episodes.  :-   Yet, initially, many were less than thrilled with a show like, say, Heroes, and it's not only artistically successful and highly rated - it's become a full-fledged phenomenon.  ;)
(And let's not forget that if reviews always mattered in the film world, someone like Adam Sandler would have been in the unemployment line years ago!  [lghy])

The new vampire series *I'd* like to see is The Lair, airing on the obscure gay TV channel, here!  All of here!'s products always come out on DVD.  Supposedly the same folks behind the here! cheese-a-thon, Dante's Cove, are producing The Lair.

The dialogue sounds like an old AIP film from the Sixties, chockful of references to "megalithic remains" and "a coven of gay vampire witches."  The blurb states that the show is meant to be a "gay version" of Buffy the Vampire Slayer but I seriously doubt whether it will prove as compelling or long-lived.  And, as was the case with Dante's Cove, there will be an abundance of soft core man-on-man sex on view.

Maybe one of the vamps will "do the Tom Jennings" with the tongue rolling around between the fangs?

If you're a fan of Veronica Mars (if it was up to me, that show would definitely rank even higher on TV Guide's new list of the top cult shows), this is interesting casting news for Moonlight: Veronica Mars Star Vamps It Up, More Casting News

Those interested may want to make note that CBS has just recently announced that Moonlight will premiere at 9pm ET/PT on September 28th.  :)

Huh.  Sophia Myles (the female lead) will be familiar to new Doctor Who fans as Madame DePompadour in "The Girl in the Fireplace" (and Doc Ten(ant)'s main squeeze).

I can't say I am impressed by the previews/faux interview.  It looks a bit lame.  C'mon, has anyone outside of grade school used the "vampires suck" joke? (Maybe on Forever Knight, but then I never watched it.  I only saw the Rick Springfield version).  But Sophia's involvement is enough to get me to watch at least the first eppy and I am mildly curious about how the show has adapted/created its vampire mythology.
