SMALL STINTS-BIG IMPRESSIONS
« on: May 08, 2002, 01:00:30 PM »
There were many actors/actresses with bit parts on DS. However, some of these characters made lasting impressions. Which one(s) fit this description for you?

Anita Bolster (Bathia Mapes)--I loved her supernatural entrance with the swirling leaves.  And her famous blooper has entered into DS lore.   :-[

Daniel Keyes(The Old Caretaker).  He was the perfect character for a ghost story. [scrdy]

BATHIA MAPES OF COURSE!!
How can we all forget this poor old woman?
She almost succeeded in fighting the powers of darkness.  Had she not gone up in flames, I think she could have been an interesting character to have around. With all the "evil doers" on the show, she could have been kind of like the good witch, whom everyone goes to for help.

The "original" Pansy Faye!!!
I liked this crazy cocky character. Evidently, the writers did too. It was good to see Nancy Barret take over this part after the original one left. I thought she did a fantastic job with this role!

I also wished they had kept the character of Harry Johnson around longer. It would have been nice to see Mrs. Johnson and her son getting along better together.

I would have like to have Adam's character return after a long absence. It would have interesting to see him as a changed man and how much he had accomplished in his life since we last saw him. :)

Buffie Harrington in 1970PT.  Elizabeth Eis did a great job with this minor character.  I always thought it would have been interesting to have seen her real time counterpart.

Elizabeth Eis--both her Nelle Gunston (although southern friends tell me the accent was not at all credible) and her Buffie Harrington.

Camilla Ashland--I think she played like two characters, but they were highly memorable, particularly the one in the Leviathan sequence.

and hmm . . .

there are probably more, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head  :)

SPOILERS...

Madame Findley was pretty memorable, although I didn't much care for her.  Watching her being terrified to death thanks to one very nasty ghost made for interesting watching.

I, too, enjoyed Elizabeth Eis, especially her scenes with both Barnabas and John Yaeger in PT.  She made that dreary storyline come to life every time she was featured.

The old guy (Braithewaite as portrayed by the same guy who played Fish?) killed by that very same ghost prior to 1897 also was an interesting character to watch.

Anita Bolster, for sure.  She was responsible for one of DS' most infamous bloopers and well-chosen for the role of the white witch trying to cure Barnabas.

The various strumpets--Maudie, et al, made for fun, quickie bullseye characters, as did Donna Friedlander, Carolyn's friend brought in just to be mauled by the werewolf.

Love, Robin

Abe Vigoda and yes, he played Fish on Barney Miller  :)

It always seemed to me that DS did an excellent job in casting day players. There must have been an extremely talented pool to choose from - struggling actors in 1960's NY.

Elizabeth Eis as Buffy was really memorable. I also enjoyed the girl who played Suki Forbes in 1795, as well as the "hookers" Maude and Ruby. Of course, Marsha Mason was also memorable in her one-day role of Audrey. Kay Frye was wonderful as Pansy Faye in 1897. And of course the guy who played Garth Blackwood/Horace Gladstone was also quite memorable and compelling.

Yes, John Harkins, who is one of my favorites in this category especially in the role of Garth Blackwood! ;)

Yes - I forgot about that one, but she was definitely one of my favorites. Seems like she was merely servings as a "temp" character while most everyone else was off filming House of Dark Shadows. Too bad they didn't keep her on, or bring her back as someone else in RT. Definitely a great character actress.

Another good one! I also remember that Istvan made quite an impression!

Hands down, I'd say Elizabeth Eis left a lasting impression as Nelle, Buffie and Mrs. Ward...although whoever taught her that Virginians have accents like that was full of *&^% :-X  If she was doing a Virginia accent then I'm from Brooklyn ::)

Anyway, just my two cents worth

For me, it's absolutely Craig Slocum. He really made a big impression on me as Noah Gifford in the 1795 Flashback, then later as Harry Johnson in the Adam storyline. That's when I really noticed him. I like everything about Craig Slocum. He fascinates me so much. I could watch and listen to him all day. I love his handsome good looks, red hair, brown eyes, cute boyish face, soft sweet voice, and his luscious 5'11", 150 pound body. I think he did a great job in his small roles on Dark Shadows! I keep him alive in memory.
