I would think it would be the family of Dan Curtis, Copywrite laws are good for 100 Years.
Vote for Jonathan in the Walk of Fame.

I've seen countless petitions over the years for shows, and it's my observation that it doesn't do much good. A more effective way to be heard/noticed is by letter writing. A letter writing campaign  would have a better chance at being paid attention to. Just my opinion.

And a general question:  Who exactly owns DS these days with regard to broadcast/syndication rights?  Is the show even available to be broadcast if some station wanted to?

Nelson (and loril54), check out replies #37, 38, 41 or 44 in this topic.

SoapNet made an effort to show DS for quite some time-- they've publicly said as much.  The issue was cost.

Thanks, folks.
If we had more fans liker the past few posters, our show would be on in prime time!

I agree with Nelson that the encouraging to sign under different names is not a good thing, because it definitely makes the petition be taken less seriously than it already is going to be.

And I also agree that these online petitions do little to nothing to change a networks mind because they're not likely to view it anyway. I've also seen many of these throughout the years for various things, and nothing ever became of any of them. But, that doesn't mean that I won't take 30 seconds out of my time to sign it anyway.

And finally, I AGREE AGAIN! (lol) with the letter writing campaign idea. That would be the best way to get the attention of the network--flood their mailboxes with letters about DS. At least then it'd show them that there is a fanbase out there who is interested in their network for SOME reason.

Well, no one has signed in a week.
The petition stalled at 158 signatures.

It was a nice idea.......

The Petition suddenly got 7 signers last week, bringing
the total # of signers up to 173.
In 3 months!

Meanwhile, a petition to keep Another World reruns
on Soapnet got nearly 1,000 signers in a week.

Maybe this is why DS no longer airs~~it's audience is so silent!
Sad.

Where have you posted the petition other than this board?
There's a very small membership here.

I posted at www.classichorrorfilmboard.com, a very busy
& popular board that gets hundreds of postings a day.

I sent the petition to www.soapcentral.com, www.collinwood.net & www.soapoperafan.com
but their owners declined to post it.

I also sent it to Michael Logan, the soap writer at TV Guide.
He never responded.
Yet I know he's a DS fan!

Still, here & classic horror film board, which has a number of active DS threads, should have garnered better results.

Yes, we all have our tapes/DVDs, & can watch DS when we want.
But unless the show is broadcast, new fans cannot be brought in & the franchise stagnates,
or worse......

Darren, would you be willing to post it on your site?
How about others who have sites?

There's a very small membership here.

Actually
... at least three times as many registered members visit this forum every day than actually post (some may just be shy - others may have nothing to contribute to the current discussions  [idontknow]). And when one factors in guests, the discrepancy between lurkers vs. posters becomes even greater because our host's stats show that in 2006 the forum has attracted an average of slightly over 1900 unique visitors monthly (August and September each attracted well over 2000). (And on average the vast majority of those visitors have spent between 15 minutes to an hour plus per visit (this month alone at least 60% of the forum's visitors have spent more than an hour per visit)).  [wink2]
and those stats have remained consistent this year as well. Though, of course, chances are that still wouldn't translate into anything like 1000 signatures a week. But then, when any program is already available and playing to an audience (as Another World is on SoapNet), it's much easier to generate signatures to keep it on than it is to generate them to get it on. That's simply one of the universal truths of the game.  :-
