Happy birthday to Tim Gordon!  I didn't know he was the Dark Shadows hand specialist.

I like the pictures; they show Barnabas's ring on both the right hand and the left hand.

Actually, the hand w/the ring on the right hand is Frid's.  And Tim has been dead since '93.  :(

Really?  :o  I looked it up and on IMDb.com, it said that episode where the hand attacked Trask, in 1795, was Tim Gordon's.  Of course, information on the internet "could" be wrong.  ;)

The IMDb is *notorious* for being inaccurate.   8)

Are you sure? I honestly know nothing about whose hand it is, but the DS Program Guide lists Hand of Barnabas as a separate character from Barnabas for Ep #438. And even when the actual actor (in this case, Frid) appears in an episode, that sort of listing usually means a stand-in was used for whatever reason.

Though, of course, the DS Program Guide isn't always accurate either...

Well, let me put it this way, the show was big on focusing on Frid's hands, particularly if he were strangling someone/clutching someone by the throat (usually Julia, Willie or Maggie).  So, as such, I made a study of his hands 'cause I like guys w/nice hands (like John Karlen, boy did that man have some nice hands back in his skinnier days), not that I think Frid has nice hands, 'cause I don't, but, I did take a few looks at them.  So, to make a long winded reply even longer, LOL, to me it really LOOKED like his hand and as such I really do think it was.  But, I have no actual evidence to say it WAS his hand so I truthfully can't say for sure.  But, that hand was, to me at least, an unattractive, ham-fisted hand like Frid has.  Tim Gordon, who's hand it was that
actually clutched Willie's throat when he opened up the coffin that first fateful time
had NICE hands, much nicer looking than the one in that picture on the above postcard.  If it wasn't Frid's hand, it had to be someone else's 'cause Tims looked WAY nicer.  ;)

Barnabas was never particularly important to me.....but I did make one observation about him early on: Frid's hands always struck me as disproportionately large.

Exactly, they're huge, ugly meathooks!  Now, Johnny Karlen's on the other hand.... ^-^  Watch the episode where
Carl has the dream about Pansy after she's dead and he says if she'll stay w/him he'll buy her beautiful clothes and they do a close-up of his hands as he caresses down her arm.
Oooh la-la!   ;D

Also, Frid's as you say seem larger than they should be, even when he was a kid.  Go to his website and look at the family picture of them when he was like 12, even then they seemed too big.   :P

OMG I'm LOL... so many Frid fans, all women of course, LOVE his huge hands!  It's funny to hear you guys not praise his hands.  Such a different pov.

But to add, on http://www.darkshadows.com/main.html it also references "the Hand of Barnabas" in 1795 as being Tim Gordon's.

Yes, that is correct.  It doesn't look like Frid's hand and Mr. Gordon was the actor who did those kinds of shots - hands, etc.  There is a name for that kind of work in AFTRA but I can't think of it off the top of my hand, or hand.  It can be very lucrative work.

It is a different POV but women have different tastes, obviously.  I personally prefer hands on men to look like men's hands and JF's look just like that - the hands of a construction worker or something along that line.
