Louis Edmonds did a real nice job of being terrified. Kudos.

Bedford County News was open. That is luck. And luckier still that they let her have access to their files.

Doctor or no, you would not get me to go look at a headless body without bearing arms, lots of ammo and plenty of backup.
I get a kick out of these guys who think they're so clean, when all the time they're trying to cover up their dirt.

Yes, Louis Edmonds was good.  And Angelique was mean.  She's quite capable of making Daniel forget his whole life without threatening him, but she had to have her fun.  Give Angelique a nice way to do something and a malicious way, and she'll always choose the malicious way.

I had forgotten that it was at Widows Hill that Daniel killed Harriet.  Shoved her off, apparently.  What were they doing up there in the first place?  I'd speculate that there was another man involved, but that's not the impression I get from Daniel.

We got the story of what happened to Judah Zachery in 1692.  It's sort of rickety.  I'm bothered by the statement that witch trials were taking place all through New England: in 1692 they were taking place only in the Salem area, I believe.  And Barnabas speculates that the deaths in the Collins family related to Judah Zachery stopped because the Head was taken out of the US, but that didn't happen until the early 1800s.  Barnabas says he heard a lot about the trial when he was a boy, which would have been 80 or 90 years after it happened.  Josbua and Naomi started out in 1795 as pooh-poohing any talk of witches, so I guess it must have been Abigail talking.  I'll bet she was terrifically envious of Amadeus Collins for experiencing all that excitement.

Doctor or no, you would not get me to go look at a headless body without bearing arms, lots of ammo and plenty of backup.
Or at least a good stiff sedative to dispense.

Louis Edmonds was fabulous--poor Daniel, already mad and now broken by Angelique as well. Harriet made a truly terrifying ghost. Maybe Daniel only thought she was unfaithful. Didn't he go off the deep end when Joshua told him what was behind the secret panel of the mausoleum?

Loved the little spat between Julia and Angelique--only the first skirmish!

Joshua and Naomi did pooh-pooh all that talk of witchcraft, but as we've seen time and time again, it doesn't pay to be a Rationalist.

Great Ang/Daniel scene.  I especially liked the line that went something like: Who do you think I am, Daniel Collins?   Mask of Baal... isn't that a South Seas thing?   It would have added so much to the weight of this storyline if they'd told us something about what those horrifically evil acts of Judah's were back then.   I don't eat up repeated references to "evil".  In fact that gets my radar up, telling me those saying it need supervision.

A re Julia: "She does as she's told.  You have her well trained!"  Also, Julia: "I know all about you now!"   Nice exit.   The great thing here is how these three people know and don't know each other in different ways!

Interesting article on Baal here. He goes back a long, long way.
