Julia,
Had an experience similar to the one you had in Spain. When Linda and I were on our honeymoon in St Thomas, we took a boat trip to St. John which is very rual in comparison to St. Thomas.  We were waiting to get back on the boat to return to St Thomas when one of the natives came up and asked us if we could spare a few dollars. While I was getting her a few bucks she noticed my DS Tshirt, (I was wearing one of the MPI shirts of Barnabas) her eyes got great big and she began saying, " I know Dark Shadows, Angelique! Angelique! she was very bad".

It was kind of eerie being so close to the West Indies and having one of the nativies standing there with a gleam in her eyes and talking about Angelique.

I very grasiously gave her a few dollars so I wouldnt get hexed!

Its amazing how well known DS is.

Also even though I dont know you, welcome back, (by the way love your attitude!)

I look forward to hearing more from you.

Good point. The strict direction of Henry (Transish) Kaplan apparently paid off, (remember from  the DS Companion where she describes his strict grading of each actor's daily performance.

Lara seemed much more confident with her role by this time.

My favorite spell would have to be what I call, "The Spell to Hell".

I felt that the incantation and the mood of that scene was one of the most intense moments on DS.

Dear VAM,
I totally agree, Nancy was one of the most versatile actresses on the show. Her skills as a character actor brilliantly show through the various characters she played on DS, (the best example is Charity Trask/Pansy Faye).

As I mentioned in an eariler post, Linda and I are currently watching the 1897 storyline, courtesy of MPI, (we are up to 3/20/69) so we are looking forward to seeing the Charity/Pansy Faye eps. Another character actor award would have to go to Grayson Hall for her excellent portrayal of Magda the gypsy.

It seems many of the cast were able to utilize thier talents to the fullest during the 1897 storyline.

Ringo,
The Crimson video must have been a classic. Ive never seen that performance. Remember the Giles, Giles & Fripp album with the saga of Rodney Toady??? Another classic worth preserving would have been Jimi Hendrix on the tonight show, (Flip Wilson was MC). Hendrix's amp shorts out mid way through his version of, "Lover Man" (actually Rock Me Baby to different lyrics).

A is also for Allen's All consuming passion for music.

The roger Tally is great also LOL when I saw this. At some point we ought to do a similar tally on Julia's nervous isms (ie all of these can be prefaced with # of times that Julia...  sniffles before lines, sniffles and rubs nose before lines, blinks eyes three times, says Barnabas's name twice followed with, "What does it mean?" Blinks eyes twice, sniffles once, starts to itch nose than decides not to, studders next line and say, "What does it mean??" Shakes head, gasps, itches face and says NNNOOO!!!")

I suppose you get my drift.

To the music junkie still having vinyl isnt so strange, (geez, if thats strange than I am in desperate need of help). Allen still has vinyl, 8tracks, (although play them rarely), cassettes and, (hold on to your hat for this one) reel to reel. So dont feel bad about having the gadgets of yesteryear.

Like most of you I still have all the DS vinyl, but would love to get a prerecorded version of DS music vol I on Phillips. Does anyone know if such a thing exists?????

Terry,
Thanks for sharing your wonderful experience. The few times I have met David he has been very down to earth.

When he asked me where I was from and I told him Baltimore, he gave me a wink and said we East Coast boys need to stick together dont we?? We struck up a nice conversation about West Virginia as my wife's mothers family is from there, (Martinsburg). David was very pleasant and enjoyed reminiscing, (paricularly about the promo trip he made to Baltimore in 1969, wish I had been there).

I hope to be ale to catch David at one of these type of events. It sounds like you had a fun and informal evening.

Raineypark,
One theory behind why Barnabas treated Willie so harshly is all that fire and fury that built up after being chained in a coffin for 171 years. If it were me I would probably grab the nearest throat too.

Seriously, Barnabas knew Ben and was friendly with him before becoming a vampire, I would think that a shred of those feelings would exist after Barnabas had been cursed. Willie on the other hand was an intruder originally and generally a bad person whom Barnabas reformed quickly.

That's my guess.

Ben, great job defining the working relationship between Jonathan Frid and Thayer David. I recall an interview that I have in an old issue of TWODS which Jonathan named Thayer David as one of his favorite actors from DS. He reiterated your point that he enjoyed doing scenes with Thayer.

Being distracted by Aunt Abagail's face wasnt the problem, it was being distracted by her mouth!

And what a mouth, as Rodney would say, "Last time I saw a mouth like that it had a hook in it".

Keep on truckin' with the idle thoughts they're great!

Calendar Events / Announcements '02 I / O.T. Happy St Patricks Day!!!
« on: March 17, 2002, 05:21:45 PM »
Hello all,
Just wanted to take the time to wish everyone a Happy St. Pattys, (particularly my Irish Catholic brothers and sisters). Let the green beer flow and the corned beef cabbage and soda bread be plentiful, (anyone for Darby O'Gill And The Little People?).

Quote of the day: "May ye have all the luck ye need - Angelique P.T. 1970"

Saw the title of this one and thought of famous DS recreational reptiles as well.

Seriously, (if thats possible), the scene that lit the fire for me was the seance which transported Vicki back to 1795. I remember very clearly watching this episode for the first time on Baltimore's Ch 45 11:30 - 12:30, (4 eps a week two on Saturday & Sunday) around November 1983.

As I barely remember the original run, (bits and pieces of P.T. bro and sis used to run home from the bus stop to watch) 1795 was what started it for me.
