Vicki is bareheaded when she leaves Collinwood. She's wearing a scarf over her hair in the (recycled) film footage of her walking across the veranda and down the stairs. When she arrives at the Old House and calls to David, she is bareheaded once more and continues to be when she returns to the Great House.

Elizabeth is wearing her famous suit jacket over her shoulders in this episode. I think this is the first time she mentions the burden of not leaving the house, though not the reason.

MT, we will miss you!

I always enjoy looking at other people's kitchens, mainly because I don't have to clean them.  [santa_wink]

Poor MT--don't worry, no offense taken! It's awful, isn't it, when one has to take meds that don't agree with one!

Lydia, I like your theory about the location of secret panels. Was it maybe Isaac who was the first Collins to emigrate? Did he prosper immediately and build the Old House himself, I wonder? Or did he have to live in some primitive log cabin with mud between the logs or maybe something even rougher? How did he treat the local native Americans? Did they have good relations through trade, or did they fight? It seems the only remaining trace of them is that someone we will meet a long time from now lives at 13 Arrowhead Road

That doesn't really anwer your question but it's always fun to speculate. I really should be working....

I don't remember the curtains, I'm afraid! But I've seen old films and so on where the cabinet under the kitchen sink has curtains instead of door. Are the Collinwood curtains in addition to doors?

Finally, after 114 episodes, Burke and Vicki clinch.

I believe this is one of the last times we will see the kitchen.

Louis Edmonds seems to be having fun in this ep. Roger is at his snippy best, even referring to Mr. Garner Senior as merely "Garner" as if he were the butler or something.

Rose Cottage not an option, I suppose

At this point, I don't think Rose Cottage was even in the mind of God, let alone the writers.

I also think this is the debut of the hidden room behind the Old House bookcase! We are slowly learning more about the Old House, although we haven't yet seen the staircase.

Bull's-eye by Mrs. Johnson about Roger--you go girl!

Later, Mrs. J. is back at Collinwood, pretending to be dusting and looking for something--some long-forgotten clue to the hit-and-run accident? David comes in and tells her about his ghost friends, hoping to scare her, but she is unfazed, even when he says that Josette told him she wouldn't leave until the third girl goes over the cliff at Widows' Hill.

Not only all of the action, but the producers got a THIRD usage of the footage of Matthew approaching the Old House, lantern in hand!  [santa_wink]

Although it's true that Elizabeth has a stainless-steel spine, even she feels the need for a nip of brandy once she and Vicki get back to Collinwood. She makes Vicki have some too. So let's see: Vicki had a brandy a couple of days ago, then a sedative, then brandy again.

 [a1f5] [a1f5] [a1f5], MT!

The scene with Elizabeth and Matthew was terrific. In full Mistress of Collinwood mode, she uses nothing but sheer force of personality to talk him out of killing Vicki. But his suspicions are too much for him, and it was a real shock to see him reach for Elizabeth's throat.

Probably less than an hour later, back at Collinwood, Elizabeth looks ready for battle as she declares she's not afraid of Burke Devlin.

Frank takes Vicki to dinner, then invites her for a no doubt chaste weekend in Bangor.

If it was low tide when Bill went off the cliff, any number of suitably jagged rocks could have been sticking up out of the water.

We know there's a back entrance to the Great House, so maybe the back road to town starts there.

Nice work by Thayer David in this ep. as I recall.

I liked Julia's electric blue dress, and her pins.

Of course, honorable mention has to go to the serpent brooch that Elizabeth wears during the Leviathan episodes.

I loved NB's Carolyn Stoddard Loomis outfits during 1970 PT.

Some of Naomi Collins's gowns were absolutely stunning, like the pearl-gray silk one with the sort of persimmon-colored velvet overdress thing.

Unfortunately, I don't have any way to see that, but it is funny!

Your guess is as good as mine, Janet--maybe the cottage is actually pretty close to the Old House, closer than Collinwood at least.

If Elizabeth is so worried about all these "things" happening to Vicki, why did she send her out to look for David in the first place?

David speculates optimistically that maybe the ghosts got Miss Winters.

When Matthew has Vicki trapped at the cottage, she pretends to be sick, although if it was me, I wouldn't have to pretend. Matthew very kindly offers to get her-- whiskey. And Elizabeth already gave her a sedative. [hall2_rolleyes]

Yes, Willie, it was screamingly yellow and just awful. But beloved anyway, am I right?  [hall2_wink]

The wardrobe in Belle du Jour puts me in mind of Audrey Hepburn's then-cutting-edge threads in Charade (1963), which were designed by Hubert de Givenchy.

The Alexander McQueen show closed a couple of months ago. I did see it and found it to be a fascinating glimpse into a rarefied, hermetically sealed world--well worth battling the hordes.

Vicki tells Frank that she's been all alone in the house. Is Elizabeth out walking the grounds? But then she comes downstairs, so maybe she was looking for David? WTF?

Sam gets dressed up for his grilling at the police station--he's wearing a (corduroy) jacket and a skinny tie.

Vicki and Frank are very cute together!
