I've got two rooms booked already and they're just about full. I'm so grateful it's been announced and so looking forward to it, even if it's a night short of most festivals.

As for the train, those of you flying in will want to get to Grand Central Station (ask at the airport for the shuttle bus -- probably cheaper than a taxi, unless you share with other fest-goers). Once in the main terminal, go to the MetroNorth counter, Hudson Line. This is the train that will stop at Tarrytown. Make sure, though, that if it's an express train (depending on the time of day), it actually does stop at Tarrytown. I believe so, but it's been a while since I took MetroNorth. When you get to Tarrytown, the hotel won't be too far, but a taxi is definitely what you'll need.

Here's something else. I believe if you buy your train ticket at the counter in Grand Central, it's a tad cheaper than getting on the train and buying it from the conductor, but again, I'm not sure. I do know that's definitely the case if you buy a round-trip ticket. If you actually know when you'll be going back down to Grand Central, you might want to consider buying that round-trip ticket.

This is just great news! I'm hoping to meet lots of you there, at least, those I haven't already met! What fun!

Well, I've been hearing all sorts of rumors. However, if it's all set, why no announcement? As you're both saying, it's so late now -- April already! I didn't go out to Hollywood for the Halloween thing, although I wanted to. It just wasn't cost-effective.

I'm sorry to say this, but this sure is a great way to kill the festivals altogether!

I am so sorry to hear this, Gerard. My prayers are with you and Michael's family at this very sad time.

Current Talk '07 I / Re: What was on Maggie's resume?
« on: March 30, 2007, 02:06:10 PM »
For me, it was one of those Ha-Ha moments on DS. Maggie had been a waitress in a coffee shop. There was no indication she'd had any college or teacher training. Still, it was a convenient way to fill the "Vicki" gap, so there she went, off to Collinwood, to become the victim-du-jour!

Considering that in those days, women were "property" of their husbands after marriage, it is astounding Quentin would give her a choice at all. As for not being "happy," I don't believe women expected happiness in a marriage the way we do today. That would especially be true in a woman of that station who married old money. I chose Quentin, though, simply because he had it all over Gerard, who was a slimeball even BEFORE
he was possessed by Judah.
I, too, enjoyed Jane Draper's too-brief appearance on DS. It seemed to me she was more polished and experienced than the other ingenues. She was quite sure of herself and her performance, and the viewer felt that.

To answer the question about Sarah, prior to Barnabas going back to 1795,
there was a scene where Barn was (once again) throttling Julia at the Old House. Sarah appears and tells him he's a "bad man." She recites a poem to Barnabas that he had taught her in her childhood about how she must be good because the wicked are punished. She then tells Barnabas that his punishment is that he will never see her again.
As for Vicki's forgetfulness after the seance and her adventure in the past,
she has a hazy memory at best when she returns, with much of it dissipating daily. It's when she finds that portrait of Angelique in the village that she begins to remember bits of what happened.
Also, at some point after 1795, I recall a scene where Carolyn and Barnabas have a conversation and Carolyn tells Barnabas
she has to get on with her own life. He agrees, so I'm assuming they both agree to put the past behind them concerning his vampirism.
Still, thanks to the way it was written, it's not clear, really, that Carolyn was talking about his having held her under his spell.

I always enjoyed the way Frid spoke, as well as that marvelous voice of his. What an instrument, and how finely he used it. Of course, he still does. At the last festival, we were privileged to see a video of him doing a scene from Shakespeare. It was riveting!

Current Talk '07 I / Re: In support of the Jason McGuire storyline.
« on: March 14, 2007, 09:00:58 PM »
Welcome, A.C.!

Hmmm. The Jason storyline -- well, I agree Dennis Patrick was perfection as that rogue. There were so many times I wanted to smack him! I did, though, find it tedious at times. I wondered how long it would take for Liz to find her backbone. Still, it's a shame, as was said here, that Joan Bennett and Louis Edmonds became "props" for all the various Barnabas storylines. Also, I agree that dropping the Vicki parentage storyline was frustrating, to say the least.

It's a fabulous review! Way to go! Well-deserved, too, because the book is amazing!

I have it on very good authority that Abigail & Trask would
get nekked so they could play Adam & Eve after Bible study.

And Abigail always ate that apple!

Oh yeah, baby! Abby sure did have a thing for Trask. I can just picture this, David -- ROTFL!

Grayson Hall was on an episode of Night Gallery that played on Chiller this morning. They seem to have a wide variety of programming. My favorite is Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
Here's hoping they are considering picking up Dark Shadows. If it is available anyway.

Hi, Janet: I emailed Jim Pierson on Friday about it. He assured me that the syndicater of DS is pursuing all possible avenues to get it back on the air. This is more encouraging than what he told me last time I checked with him on the Chiller channel.

Hey, I saw that episode with Grayson -- that was a nice surprise! I do like the Chiller network, too. It would be a fabulous fit for DS and only enhance what they're running now.

Current Talk '02 II / Re: Angelique's very UNHIP wardrobe. .
« on: March 03, 2007, 07:56:40 PM »
I absolutely hated Angelique's white vampire gown. To me, it was as if someone pulled drapes off a window, threw them over her, and tied a sash around her waist! That thing was just hideous and did the beautiful Lara Parker no favors. Now, on the other hand, the gown she's wearing in 1970PT (in the portrait and in her coffin) is fabulous and really suits her. Too, I loved the elbow-length gloves -- very elegant!

While we're on the subject, there was just no excuse for Quentin's plaid jacket in 1970PT! He has model-good looks, and a navy-blue, double-breasted blazer was more the ticket.

BTW, loved the comment on Nicholas Blair's get-up. You are so right -- it probably did wander around Collinsport by itself at night when Nicky was sleeping (did he ever sleep? -- another subject for another day).

Current Talk '02 II / Re: Angelique's Resurrection Appearance
« on: March 03, 2007, 07:46:53 PM »
I find what was written about Angelique interesting -- how she lied so easily, coming up with scenarios to fit every possible situation she found herself in. That, too, can fit in with Biblical teachings in that Satan is the great deceiver. As a follower of Satan, or as they euphemistically referred to him, Diabolos, naturally she'd be a smooth liar and deceiver herself.

I never thought of that Resurrection parallel, Vlad, but it's certainly food for thought. In my opinion, I think it was totally subconscious on the part of the writers. I know I went to Catholic school, and all those teachings for all those years are just ingrained in me. If I write something, and for some reason, there's seems to be a religious context to it, there's certainly no intention on my part to do so.

As for the protests by certain religious groups back then, I was somewhat aware of the controversy but didn't pay much attention. I was a kid enjoying a TV show. In fact, the nuns never told us we couldn't watch Dark Shadows. Get this -- we were told not to watch Laugh-In or the Three Stooges! Figure that out!
