Well I think Karlan's Willie may have ended up being sympathetic but watching these first episodes I'd say he was just plain nasty. He played the role as a real bully with a HUGE chip on his shoulder.

I think he may have eaten humble pie after Barnabas got to him  [hall2_tongue]

Guess I confused the Willie past with the Willie present. That makes sense, now. But, can you imagine if the past Mrs. Johnson was his aunt? Imagine the wonderful dialogue they'd have together  [hall2_smiley]

I've been catching up with the 'early episodes' and didn't realize there was a different actor who played Willie. How come this actor left?

Random thoughts on Willie: what a totally nasty bugger he was! Was he supposed to be the 'leader' of the blackmail stuff? I always thought that was Jason.

Did anyone think he sounded like he was speaking in a southern accent at first? Some of the lines really sounded like it to me.

Wasn't he supposed to be the nephew of Mrs. Johnson? When we first meet him, he was a stranger to her.

Well, that's it. I was just surprised at those few discoveries  [hall2_smiley]

Awesome conversation thread. I enjoyed reading through it all.

Really enjoyed the photos of the real Seaview. Pity about all the damages done to it, though. How very sad. Years ago my brother gave me some coffee table type books on mansions in the US with pictures. I'll have to look through it to see if Seaview is included. I seem to remember that little balcony in the hall.

I won't bother posting my 'yes' or 'no' as it really doesn't matter.

Agree with you rainingwolf. Just recently finished watching season 1 of True Blood and those vampires were nasty business.  So much so I can't imagine why people romanticize vampires at all.

That is when his spidey sense came in handy!  [ghost_wink]

I recently got a Night Gallery disc from Netflix and this segment with Joan Crawford is on the first disc. Can't recall the name of the episode but I was very surprised to see that Steven Spielberg directed it.

Interesting episode, actually some of them were but it wasn't my cup of tea. That being said, it was fun to see some of the stars in the episodes, especially a very young Diane Keaton.

I am working my way through the 'beginning' episodes and got to see how Mrs. Johnson started working at the house.

In the later episodes she is quite the no-nonsense, say it like it is housekeeper!

The house burned in 1969.  Here's a link to some very detailed information and photos of the house and the site:

Thanks for this link. Interesting, and sad, too. Those beautiful buildings! The 'Old House' was really lovely in its heyday - pity no one could have saved it. Wouldn't it be fun to think that some organization could have bought it and fixed it up for conventions and DS could have had one there?

You are too funny with your t-shirt!  [ghost_cheesy]

I am currently listening to Dracula and have to say that if I read/listened to this before Dark Shadows, I don't think I would have been that enthusiastic about watching the show. The vampire in this story is downright creepy with NO redeeming qualities whatsoever.  I am so glad Jonathan Frid portrayed Barnabas as he did!

I got a collection of 50 mystery movies from a recent library sale (for only $2!) and one of the features was Scarlet Street. This movie was directed by Fritz Lang and stars our Joan. Wow! This movie was SO good and her character was as different from Elizabeth Collins as you could get. This must have been during her heyday and I was impressed what a great actress she was. Her character wasn't really nice at all and Joan played it very well. I know a restored version of this movie was released and I would recommend a viewing. I don't think you'll be disappointed!

I agree - that is a lovely pic of JB.

I borrowed her biography from my library, but to be honest, I just couldn't get into it. I'm not sure what I was expecting but I found the reading very dry. You may have better luck!

I'd be curious to see any pictures from the festival. Will this forum post the pics?
