Current Talk '02 I / Re: FILLING THEIR  SHOES
« on: May 07, 2002, 10:03:59 PM »
We did see what happened when Nancy Barrett was unavailable for an episode and how they got Larry Chase as PT Chris Collins replacement.

Instead of sending a Joan Bennett character off camera, I think either her good friend Lois Kibbee or Irene Dailey could have played Elizabeth or Judith.

Jacklyn Smith would have made a good Vicky #2.  THough Carolyn Groves was a good Vicki #3.

They never could have gotten away with a cast member subsituting for another cast member as the same character.  Joel Crothers had to fill in for Mitchell Ryan in an episode but he played Joe Haskell, NOT Burke Devlin.

I think the same would go for other soaps if they were rerun.  If, for example, General Hospital's oldest episodes were to be rerun, I am sure there would be a lot of bloopers, plot holes, bad acting, etc.

DS is scrutinized because it is the only soap opera with reruns of these 60's episodes.  the same thing would happen for any soap if we were to watch their early episodes.

I even see mistakes in continuity on shows like All in the Family, Happy Days, Dallas, General Hospital, etc.

..and yes, CBS did cancel all their rural themed oriented shows (which were geting high ratings but among older, midwestern viewers) to concentrate on a younger, city living population.

Current Talk '02 I / Re: did I miss something? TOTAL SPOILER QUESTION
« on: April 29, 2002, 04:43:39 PM »
Spending nearly 5 months in 1795/1796 is time for Vicky to come to the realization that Burke is gone and will never return again.  She did mention to Peter that she had a fiancee who is "missing".   Peter was there for her at a vulnerable time and she fell for him.

Current Talk '02 I / Re: Unwanted Charactor Question
« on: April 23, 2002, 10:33:26 PM »
I could handle the charcacters, but some actors I could deal without...

I could deal with the character of Harry Johnson but not Craig Slocum.  After 1795, he should have never returned to DS.  I liked the one episode second Harry Johnson beter.

Roger Davis is another actor I could deal without once Peter and Vicky exit the storyline.  The characters of Ned Stuart, Dirk Wilkins and Charles Delaware Tate could have been played by different actors.  Dan could have paid them for the time they were on the show instead of signing them for a longer term.  Ned is introduced very close to the beginning of 1897 and was never used after 1897, so a temporary actor could have played that role.  I think it would have made the Chris Jennings story better without the Jeff Clark lookalike references.

Claude North- He had so much build up and gets killed in 4 episodes.  That was a waste.

Current Talk '02 I / Andre's Departure

Does anyone know why David Ford left so suddenly at this point that Andre was sent, off camera, to New York for good?  I know he will return in the present time as Sam Evans again.

When I first watched these episodes in the mid 80's, I thought that David Ford had left DS for good (like Anthony George did) and had to be abruptly written out.

When I first saw these episodes, I was shocked to see Craig Slocum return for another character! He wasn't that good an actor to begin with.   "What were they thinking" I was saying to myself at the time.

I don't see Natalie as Josette's mother either.

Josette's mother was named "Marie" as stated by Natalie in the episode where Barnabas is to marry Josette and she has disappeared.  She is describing Andre and Marie's wedding.

As for "Angelique's Descent", remember...Angelique came to the Dupre house a while after her upbringing.  She simply could have lied to them by stating she never was baptized.

<<I agree AllenCollins: Sarah's warning to David was exactly that...a direct reference to David himself being in danger from Barnabas.  Raineypark  >>

David asked Sarah if it was he the dead were after and she said it wasn't.

Current Talk '02 I / Sarahs Warning to David
« on: March 15, 2002, 05:34:41 PM »
Who was she referring to in the second to last episode prior to 1795 when she talls David that "the dead are angry and have come back and there's someone in this house they want to destroy"?

Was this a warning about the upcoming appearance of Angelique in town to destroy Barnabas?  They never really resolved this.

Current Talk '02 I / In Defense of Vicky
« on: March 06, 2002, 11:43:07 PM »
Lets not knock her being "dumb" at stating that people she meets in 1795 resembles present day characters.

Lets take them one by one:

Barnabas- She meet him first in 1795, so naturaly she would think he knows her.

Sarah- Vicky is still new in 1795.

Nathan Forbes- the first lookalike with a different name from a present time person.  This is a natural mistake.

Naomi Collins- Again, she is still confused, being in 1795 a short time.

Abigail Collins- Vicki just woke up and would naturally believe she was seeing Mrs. Johnson at her bedside (after thinking she dreamed what happened before), so this case of mistaken identity is not unusual at all.

Jeremiah Collins- He resembles her fiance, believed to be dead, so on first sight this is justified.

Joshua Collins- She was startled by his resemblense to Roger..but didn't say anything.

Natalie Dupres, Josette Dupre.< Andre Dupres- Well...I guess I can't defend her anymore...except for....

Ben Stokes- Well, she was almost killed by Matthew Morgan, so naturally she would be shocked.

The picture used for Sarah was probably a holdover from the original origin of Barnabas being in the 1830's and like Naomi's headstone was never changed.

Most likey, the set designers forgot to remove it.

I was wondering, could the current portrait in the drawing room of the Old House be the father of Joshua, Abigail, and Jeremiah?

There is a portrait of an older one in Joshua and Naomi's bedroom, perhaps that is Joshua's mother?

Current Talk '02 I / A Solution to Vicky's Fate
It was one of the most disapointing things the writers did by decided to have Jeb kill Vicky in 1796, and onw of the most nonsensical...it made the murky plot even more confusing.

But the answer lies on another character unmentioned throughout all this--Phyllis Wicke. In the Return to 1796 prior to 1897, she is nowhere to be found after Vicky is re-hung (another plothole the writers left). However, one can place her in 1796 with the Jeb/Vicky/Peter scenario.

When Jeb throws Vicky off Widows' Hill, could Phyllis Wicke have suddenly appeared in Vicky's place at the rocks below? The body would have been so badly damaged, no one may have realized it wasn't Vicky. Victoria Winters was then returned to the present time...perhaps she was so confused she just ran off for a while to be alone. Though Peter would still kill Jeb and throw him over Widows' Hill and subsequently hung for doing so. Neither of them aware about the transposition of the bodies. Notice there is no ghost of Victoria Winters during the Leviatian sequence.

I think this could be a resolution as to what happened to Vicky so she could return to the present time.
Why didn't Abigail zero in on Angelique when Vicki wasn't around to persecute?

In the original timeline Abigail had Phyllis Wick to accuse of being a witch.
