Speaking of makeovers, wouldn't it be something if the In a Fix crew were around  to help Willie out when Barnabas first took up residence at the Old House?

I got a copy of this book yesterday and browsed through it - I'm planning to take it to the beach the first of next month and hopefully read it cover to cover.  The author says that Joan's "finest screen perfomance" was in a movie called The Reckless Moment (1949)  I'll have to see if it's available.  I saw Father of the Bride a few weeks ago and it's the first time I've actually seen this movie from its beginning right through to the end.  I've always been a fan of Joan Bennett, but I have to say I was even more impressed by her performance in this film - she and Spencer Tracy have great chemistry together and I love that final scene where they are dancing together in the midst of all the wreckage from the wedding.

Thanks so much for posting this.   What can I say.  I don't think science has even begun to scrape the surface of the mystery of the human brain.  The insidious think about mental illness is that sufferers often tend to blame themselves, or think that something is "wrong" with them, instead of realizing that it is the same as a physical illness.  I sincerely hope that "The Donald" as Mrs. Julian calls him, realized just how much entertainment his portrayls on DS have given fans and will continue to do so for many, many years to come.  That is a legacy to be proud of.

I've enjoyed reading about them as well.  I am really hoping these episodes are going to be released on DVD.

Hope you can get the pictures up.  The captions are great.  Mrs. Julian always gets a spring in her step and a glint in her eye when the Donald as she calls him is featured in any DS episodes we watch - she's especially fond of Tom and says if she was Julia she'd throw over Barnabas in a minute for Mr. Jennings.

Liz in a black evening gown on a riding mower as mentioned by Gerard brings to mind Faye Dunaway way over the top as Joan Crawford attacking the shrubery in full evening gown regalia.  Hmmm.  Maybe Dark Shadows missed a story opportunity - Liz possessed and outside doing yard work dressed to the nines.  Carolyn!  Bring me the ax!

Maybe Harry Johnson did some of the yard work when he was around.  BTW, I would not wear flip flops when mowing the lawn, esp. if you are walking behind a push mower.  Too many things can fly out from under a mower.  And make sure and wear some protection for your eyes.  And sunscreen too.  :)

Welcome back Gerard.  I'm sure it must have been a wonderful trip.  If you do get a chance and feel like it, please let us know a bit about your travels.  I love going to different places myself and always enjoy hearing about other peoples vacations.

Tate probably filled the years between 1897 and 1970 by painting uninspired landscapes.

One of my favorite moments is when Liz finally spills the beans just as she's about to marry Jason.

Poor Madame Finlay.  I wish she could have stayed around longer.  She's one of my favorite "guest" appearances in DS.  I think she was also in Thoroughly Modern Millie in a completely different kind of role.  She's certainly a very talented actress.

In the words of Hyacinth Bookay - oh my word, how nice!  I'll try to not sit here and seethe with envy.  My wife's aunt took the Queen Mary to South America earlier this year and had a wonderful time.

I can't remember the exact details of the scene, but it's in 1795 when Angelique has caused Josette and Jeremiah to fall in love and they run away.  Barnabas goes looking for Josette, but can't find her.  He goes back and enters the Old House where Angelique is waiting and tells her that he will always love Josette.   He's very powerful in that scene.

Another sad scene for me is when the family has to abandon the house because Quentin has stirred up so much trouble.  Right before they leave, Roger returns from a business trip and is rather pompous and insufferable about the claims that Collinwood is haunted, but after he encounters Quentin he is like a broken man, and Liz comforts him as she leads him from the house.  That scene with Liz almost holding Roger in her arms is very sad and touching and makes me think that big sister had to frequently be a support for her little brother.

If I'm remembering correctly, Joe and Maggie are at the Blue Whale and basically agree that their relationship is over -that's a pretty sad scene.
