Just thought I would ask the guestion who are the lucky ones going to the fest this year in Brooklyn, NY?
Anyone going to R.I. on the bus trip on Monday? I can't go to the fest, but there is a slim chance than I might be able to be in Newport on that Monday.
I remember being at the fest in 2001 and never meeting another person from this forum. The monday following the fest I happened to be in Newport with family and yet miss more of the forum who were also in Newport. I was at the Breakers while they were working the grounds of Seaview, Collinwood. Also we were going to stop by the Black Pearl but had to by pass it that time. Another place our gang happen to visit.
Strange, isn't it.

I'll be in Brooklyn this year, and I certainly look forward to seeing friends from this board. :) However I'll be flying home on Labor Day instead of going to Newport, so I'm afraid I'll miss you, Birdie. :-
It is hard to connect with folks at the Festival unless you know who you're looking for, or designate a meeting place in advance. Last year was the best luck I've ever had, what with the grand piano party in the lobby. I hope that this year will also be a lucky one for finally putting faces to familiar names. :)

Hi Birdie,
A group of us will be in Newport prior to the Festival. The evening of Sunday 24th, and all day that Monday the 25th. The last time we were there(1999) we had a pizza party in Collinwood, and I look forward to doing it again this year. If you're in the neighborhood stop on by. ;D
Bob
-
Bob Just to clarify, you mean the week before the fest?
-
Bob,
I think we might be on the Cape that weekend, if my husband ever gets his act together and make the necessary phone calls. But if that falls though going to Newport is never hard for me. I have family who live in the area. Save a piece of pizza for me, or at least a toast at the Black Pearl. Have a wonderful time.
Birdie
-
I'll be there too! I'm REALLY looking forward to getting my lobster tail at the black pearl! Oh and seeing all my friends too! ;)
-
I'm pondering coming in for the day on the Sat. If I do, it will all be very last minute. I'm moving this coming weekend, and am reaching my wits' end (they don't extend very far--trust me).
I probably won't actually register for the Festival, since I imagine they are doing the same idiocy with pre registration that they did last time. If I go, I will just sit in the lobby and look for some old friends I only get to see on these occasions.

I'll be there for the whole weekend - should be fun :)
BTW. for those who've not seen it yet, I've just posted the tentative schedule for the weekend's events on my website.

Bob Just to clarify, you mean the week before the fest?
Hi Julia,
Yes, it is indeed the week before the festival. :)
Bob

Great Jennifer!
We'll be at the house all day, except when we head down to the Wharf for lunch and/or dinner at the Black Pearl. :)
We'll also be in your neck of the wood the later part of the 26th and most of the 27th. I see our beloved Red Sox are home against Toronto those two days. If the weather is conducive,I plan to take in the game that Tuesday night. I'm prepared to pay scalpers prices for one look at Fenway Park. ;D
-
Thanks to Midnite, I'm back online. Where to start?
Midnite: Thanks for all your help! A big cyber-hug.
Bob: You want Red Sox tickets? I know a concierge -- I'll get you prices. Least I can do for the mousepad and the Hartford pics you got developed. I'm interested in Newport trip. Easy bus ride from South Station. Write or call me.
Gothick: How are you? Where are you?
Nicky: Drop me an email. Are you going through Buffy withdrawal? Did you know Tabitha's new baby is to be named Endora? And that her new neighbor is Nurse Kravitz!
I'm working on going to NYC but is dependent on finances -- been short a roommate at home for many months. Finally got somebody for September 1.
Missed you all,
BROC ;D
-
Broc...do I know you from a previous DS board?
Patti, who's always been Patti

I haven't posted in quite a while. I first found most of these wonderful "cousins" at the scifi board. I've only been to one fest -- in 1995 -- but I did attend the Frid show on Long Island and two Selby plays in Hartford. I've mostly gone by brocman -- Nicky rechristened by BrocBaby after I hooked him up with Buffy -- which was not originally shown in Montana -- how awful!. I've met my former neighbor Gothick -- and he invited Aimee over for a wonderful afternoon of DS fun. I met a few people in Hartford and Long Island -- but mostly I've been the mysterious cousin from Boston. I loved meeting David Selby in person, and was very glad to get his autograph, along with his castmemembers, on several copies of the script of Long Day's Journey -- one of which I gave to my parents on their 40th Anniversary.
Barry AKA brocman AKA BrocBaby ... now known at yahoo as...

Welcome back, Brocman!!
[hello] [wavey]
-
Hi Josette,
I always think of you as the board cheerleader -- the one who reads everything on the scifi boards and always has something nice to say. I'm sure I've missed some great stories. Is Marcos still writing? He was always one of my favorites. I also remember telling you something about Microsoft Word -- was it changing your apostrophes and quotes from smart to straight?
BrocBaby
-
Hi again, Brocman,
Marcos seems to have mostly disappeared. At the end of last year I got a couple of e-mails from him, but there's been nothing on the boards and that was the last I heard from him.
I don't recall if you gave me any suggestions on Word or not. I know I've had problems when converting WordPerfect to Word and the quotes and apostrophes don't come through right, so it's possible I mentioned that on the board.
It's funny that you mentioned Aimee. I forgot that you were the one besides Gothick that she visited. She subsequently moved to my area and I visited her a couple of times. She subsequently moved again and was going to have me see the new place, but somehow all correspondence then stopped. She hasn't posted in ages and I haven't heard from her.

Hi Birdie
One of the reasons I decided to go to this years fest was the side trip to RI. I can't wait to see"Collinwood" Look for me, I will look like a huge Grape (large woman all in purple)
LdyAnne! [lol2]
-
BrocBaby :),
Marcos has an account on the forum. You can try emailing him-- look for Mark Branson in the cousins list.
LdyAnne, hope you have a blast!
-
Thanks for the info on Mark, Josette & Midnite. I did have his phone number and snail mail too once upon a time -- although I thought he may have moved within Florida. Will try the email.
I do think I'll go to Newport this weekend -- it's so easy from Boston. And I'm working on Sox tickets for Bobubas -- and asked for 4, Bob, so that a friend and I can join you. Will be sure to take digital pics.
Will try for NYC if budget and time allow.

So, who from the Board will be attending this year's Fest? I still haven't made up my mind, and will probably continue to vacillate until the last possible moment.
Regards,
John
-
Hi, Claude i won't be attending this
yr because of a bad left knee. Want
to so bad though. Needed and waited
to meet The Q-man for so long!!!!!
Love Anne :P :P :P
-
I'll be there, along with a whole contingent of Grayson Hall fans. ;D
Hope to meet you there, Claudenorth.
Bette
-
Yes John you must come! We will be easily identifiable on Saturday for sure! You know what i mean. . . . >:D
-
I'll be at the Fest all weekend. In fact, I have a part in the Collinsport Players' skit, (according to the schedule, it looks like that's going to play around 1:00 on Saturday afternoon) so those of you who will only be around on Saturday and have never met me can look for 'Maggie Evans'; I'd love to meet everyone from this board who's attending the Fest. Seeing my friends in person is the best part of these conventions. :D
John, I hope you do decide to go.
Annie, I'll say hi to David Selby for you. ;)

I'll be there too! I'm looking forward to seeing you Bette. [crowdhappy]
I'll be there the entire week-end. You will recognize me as the woman with the tripod and/or at the costume gala on Saturday nite. ProfStokes also forgot to tell you she'll be in that too. That is Saturday at 8p.m.
I should also have as part of my name badge, "my name is victoriawinters."
Hope to see you all there.

Yeah! Remember those red name badges that said, [wavey]"Hello! My name is........"[wavey] I should find one and wear it.
-
I'm still on the fence, too, though I would love to come and visit with my friends, plus any new folks who can find me. Just bear in mind that the crowds are HUGE, especially in the main rooms--you'll be amazed that there are that many Dark Shadows fans who live and walk the earth.
John, hope I can see you there!

Amazingly I got both a job offer for that weekend here in Boston taking photos for an AIDS triathalon and found out that one of my new friends has an apartment in New York through August 31. (He's living in Boston so it's empty right now.)
What to do?
Hoping to hook up with Bobubas in Boston. Sox tickets are available that night.
Probably can do Newport on Sunday but have to work on Monday.
-
I wish I could hook up with the group going to Newport on the 25th, but once again work is interfering with my life! Sunday could have worked, our Cape plans fell through. Labor Day might be tough too, the daughter is going back to school that day. The hub, is taking her don't know if I will be able to escape. Oh well, have a blast!

Birdie, we will be dining at the Black Pearl Sunday night, you're more than welcome to join us if that fits in to your plans.
Broc....We'll be at the mansion on and off all day Monday.
Jen......Go Sox ;)

At this point, it seems that I will be attending. Not sure why I'm feeling so hesitant this year.
In any event, I'm sure I'll have a good time, and I'm looking forward to meeting some of my fellow posters.
Regards,
John
-
Sorry Bob, I wasn't able to get on the computer till now and miss the chance to meet you. Thinking the chances of being able to catch you guys on Monday had been impossible I ended up working my tail off in the yard. I would have loved to have been able to meet you guys. Thank you so much for including me. Have a fabulous time.

Gothick--
So, like, are you going to be working the lobby? My mom wants to know when you've decided whether you're going to be there or not. 'Cause if YOU'RE not going to be there, she sees little point in attending. She's already pissed that Annie and Carol aren't going, and I'm pissed that Carol's not going.........we're all just pissed.
P.S.--TERRY308, are you going to be there? I need someone to talk to who appreciates Barnabas, as do I!

I'm in love with Barnabas so you can hang with me if Terry isn't there. I'll be in the lobby at 4 p.m. ish on Friday.

I'm sorry that I am causing you so much grief by not going to fest but I really didn't have any plans to go in the first place. It would've been nice to have someone ride shotgun with me in case I got lost maneuvering the city streets but since none of my friends were interested in driving down with me, I never pursued the idea of attending.
PS--Your pix of Steve Tyler reminds me of that new fashion stylist, Steve Cojocaru.

Hi Love at First Bite,
at this point, I'm feeling more negative than positive about going to the Festival. I just had another harassing weekend of dealing with stuff connected with my move, and I'm just not sure I have the stamina for a day trip into NYC next Sat.
I am asking folks who live in the area whether we might be able to meet up in NYC later in the Fall, if I can't make it to Brooklyn for the big whoopsie.
Is your Mom back online now?
cheers, G.
-
Gothick...hope everything starts to smooth out.
I'd cure you...but that may still be wrong (and I don't wanna curse you)

GO Sox ;D

Autumn is absolutely THE season to visit New York....the only problem would be picking the places to go and the things to do out of all the possibilities!!
Heck....we could debate where to meet from now till Halloween!!! [blackbat]

An autumn get-together is a great idea. I'm in Philly, so a day trip to NYC would be no problem for me. Plus, I like the idea of meeting others from the forum in a setting that is less "intense" than the Fests.
Regards,
John

I'll be in the NY area the second week of October thru early November. If it happens, I'll be there! :D

Well, this is starting to sound excellent!
maybe we could do the Halloween parade in Greenwich Village!
Sat. before H'ween is likely to be a good one for me. I'm in Canada the weekend of Columbus Day, and am helping to run workshops the following weekend.
I'm feeling very excited at the thought of being once again in the company of the legendary Marginalia du Pres! Not to mention the handsome and mysterious Claude North ... and the Legend That Is Connie!
Jennifer, would be great to have you come too! maybe we could do the bus from Chinatown together. Having a companion would make the time on the road pass more pleasantly.

Cursing someone on the forum is a good thing. ;)

It looks like I will be going to the Festival this Saturday and plan on returning on Monday. Unfortunately, I will not make it to Newport or the Sunday banquet.
I do hope to meet at least some of you there, although I am disappointed that you will not be one of them, Birdie! Don't suppose that Vlad can make it either? When I attended the Fest back in 2001 (weeks before 9/11), GingerCat and I were happy to connect with several of you. Unfortunately, this time GingerCat has family obligations Labor Day weekend and I'll be coming solo, but I guess we happybats sometimes do that. ;D
But I have no costume - yikes! Does anyone here have a schedule of events for the weekend other than what I see in the Fest site? I'll be buying my ticket at the door.
Question no. 2: Is there anyone here driving to the Boston area on Monday? I live in Concord. Can't hurt to ask!
Hope to see many of you soon!!! [wavey]

Go to http://mrjuggins.topcities.com/gram/gram.htm and select Update #99.
Your 2001 costume was SO gorgeous, HappyBat! But costume or no, it's a bummer I won't get to see you. *sigh*

Thanks a bunch for the info and the compliment, Midnight! Frankly, I thought I looked like a little fat piggy in that costume. :- Lesson learned: never, ever wear a dress like that without the appropriate ... ahem ... support.
So I won't be seeing you either? A bummer indeed!
I gather that the Fest will be in the Brooklyn Heights area? Am seriously considering Priceline for an even better deal on a room in the area, if there is one to be had.

Awwwww, thanks Victoria. ;)
But I don't think I'm going to be there Friday.

And i'd love to help folks get around. . .i'll be around the weekend before Halloween but soon thereafter hoofing it ot San Francisco to deal with all my crap that's in storage since I'm staying in New York . .oh did i mention that?

Forgive me for being dumb, but what is the costume event about? I mean, is it a contest or something? Where is "backstage?" The lobby?
-
For the benefit of those of us that can't be there, one of the fans attending this weekend generously offered to email some pics of the event via cell phone (ain't technology grand?!), and I'll try to get them up on this board as quickly as I can. They'll be cell phone quality pics, but it should make for some good vicarious enjoyment (GVE ;)). So please be sure to check back this weekend cuz after that, depending on their quality, it's hard to say how long some or all of them will remain posted. :D
-
If my plans go through successfully, I will be at the fest all three days. I am having a t-shirt made that says, "Buy Robservations Here." I will have Robservations CD's with me for sale, and I hope to meet all the wonderful people I've known in the past and and those I haven't yet met!
Love, Robin

Dear Fellow Librarian Bette, your memory is obviously better than mine! Looking forward to meeting you and the others Saturday evening and Sunday.
I'll be the shy, blonde gal looking a bit daunted by the crowd ... [blshy] [book2]

And, for you Willie Loomis fans, be sure to stop by Mary Overstreet's table and pick up a copy of her latest fanzine, Karlenzine IV. It is full of great stories and pix on our lovable servant/slave of Barnabas. Just received my copy today and it is chock full(320+pages) of stories, poems and wonderful art work.
-
Forgive me for being dumb, but what is the costume event about? I mean, is it a contest or something? Where is "backstage?" The lobby?
It's mostly about either dressing as your fav DS character or performing a speech or singing a song. Last year I recited an opening monologue of victoria. Some have very elborate costumes, other wore street clothes. This year I'm going to sing sans elborate costume.
I used quotations around "backstage" because it really isn't backstage, it's another conference room that they have where they line us all up. It's really not a contest because there are no prizes or judging, it's about having fun. To see what happened last year, you can check out page 4 of my Fest 2002 page. Here is the click (http://victoriawinters.net/fest2002/page4.htm).
This is more than likely my last chance to check the board. All my drugs are packed and I'm ready to go! So, hope to see you there!
P.S. There is never a dumb question.
