Title: Best and Worst of Leviathans
Post by: Midnite on June 14, 2003, 08:52:26 PM
Now that "Leviathans" is a not-so-distant memory and we're packing away our snake jewelry and getting over our fear of funhouses, I thought it might be fun to read how others would respond to these questions.  Answer any or all, and feel free to expound if you wish.

Don't forget-- this is for the Leviathans storyline only.  Does anybody need an explanation of how to copy and paste the questions into their reply, or how to get them there using the quote feature?

The most irritating character?
**Those damned pre-Jeb boys...Alexander and Michael.  God how I hated them. [flmthrw]

I'd like to take those two "boys" and beat "the tar out of 'em".  Then I'd take Michael to the barber shop, and have all of his hair shaved off and tell him that it would be that way, untill he learned how to comb it. (I know, his hair was really a wig, but I figure out that he'll be so tramatized, that he'll think its real.)

The scene that had you closes to tears?
**When Angelique found out that her husband (Sky Rumson) was a Leviathan, she leaves and goes to Barnabas.  She fall into his arms, not because she's in love with him, but because of what she just found out, and I think she just needed a hug.  And Barnabas is just what she needed. [witch]

Most welcome character (the one you were happiest to see)?

Quentin's return

Your favorite character in Leviathans, period.

Quentin

Favorite duo (non-romantic)?

Quentin & Julia looking for Barnabas

Favorite romantic pairing?

Philip & Megan, were there any others?

Favorite minor character?

Philip

Most irritating character?

Sabrina

Scene(s) you can watch over and over and over and...?

Barnabas talking to Paul in the Blue Whale about his most "prized" possession, that was really spooky!
Quentin pulling the sword on Sky Rumson
Paul attacked by the giant lung & taking refuge at Stokes' cottage

Most wasted opportunity?

Quentin!!  Also, not bringing in a replacement for Paul Stoddard's ghost to haunt Jeb.  Wish it was Stoddard's ghost that threw Jeb off the cliff!

Best plot twist?

Return of Barnabas's curse

Creepiest moment or event?

Evil Barnabas's smile

Which scene had you yelling at your TV screen the loudest?
Probably Sabrina going alone to confront Bruno

What moment made you cheer the loudest?
When Barnabas burned down the antique shop

Moment in which you most wondered, "What were the writers smoking?"
Not just one moment, there were many moments during Leviathan

Favorite prop?
Well, I guess the dumb Naga box

Least favorite special effect?
That dumb shadow

What scene had you closest to tears (because it was so touching)?

When Barnabas woke up and realized he was a vampire again

What scene had you closest to tears (from laughing)?
When Quentin and Amanda were in the cave and saw that silly spider on the web

Moment or event that made your jaw drop the farthest?
Probably when Paul realized that he was expected to give Carolyn to the Leviathans

What nagging question were you left with?  (Uh, try to narrow it down, please. )

Why didn't they do The Mummy instead?  Quentin in Egypt ¢â‚¬¦

Finally, what was your reaction to the storyline the very first time you watched it?

Since I was just a kid I thought the child actors were scary & cool.  I liked the idea of the mysterious horrible "thing" in the room

Most welcome character (the one you were happiest to see)?
Nicholas Blair  >:D

Quote
Your favorite character in Leviathans, period.
Professor Stokes, my favorite character, period.

Quote
Favorite duo (non-romantic)?
Jeb and Bruno: They were such a bumbling team in the long run that it was almost comical.

Quote
Favorite minor character?
One-shot Nelle Gunston

Quote
Most irritating character?
Amanda Harris

Quote
Scene(s) you can watch over and over and over and...?
The entire sequence where Angelique learns from Barnabas that Sky is a Leviathan, then discovers he's best buds with Nicholas Blair, strangles Sky with voodoo, reunites with Quentin, sends Sky away from the Old House and turns to Barnabas for support. I'm certainly no Angelique fan and I'm not too big on Parker's acting in general, but her performance here was stunning and this was as close as I came to ever feeling sorry for Angelique.

Quote
Most wasted opportunity?
The return of Paul Stoddard could have been better fleshed out and should have lasted longer (though I know Patrick had better things to do.)

Quote
Best plot twist?
Bruno trying to replace Jeb and planting him in the crypt with the werewolf.  That took nerve.

Quote
Creepiest moment or event?
When Barnabas abducted Philip and punished him by putting him behind the bookcase in the Old House with a tape of his chastising voice. After Barnabas tells a frantic Megan to go back to the shop, the camera shows Philip's shellshocked face as we the audience finally see where he is.  For me, this epitomized Leviathan Barnabas's coldness and gave me the chills. [eek]

Quote
Moment in which you most wondered, "What were the writers smoking?"
The moment we learned Jeb was involved in the death of Victoria Winters. [puke]

Quote
Event or revelation that made you ask, "What were the writers smoking?"
See above.  This plot twist made me so furious.  It was so unnecessary and it spoiled my image of the happy life I assumed Vicki had enjoyed since we left her in the past. [pissd]

Quote
Favorite quote?
"Don't worry, you've got Bruno!" (Bruno)
It just strikes me as a very funny, albeit ridiculous line.

"There are so many ways of losing people and so few of holding on." (Carolyn)
Unfortunately, a very true perception of life.  :'(

Quote
Favorite prop?
The Naga jewelry, I suppose.

Quote
Favorite special effect?
Maybe Nicholas's spirit leaving his body.  Nothing else stands out at this moment.

Quote
Least favorite special effect?
I'm really not liking the disco ball/police cruiser lights in the current dream sequences.  :P

Quote
Ugliest outfit?
Bruno's fur coat was pretty scary, but not as bad as his hair.

Quote
Stupidest continuity error (the most horrendous job of retconning in this storyline)?
At one point, Jeb pleads with Angelique to save him from the shadow because he's not responsible for Sky. She refuses, saying she holds him responsible anyway because he was the focus of the Leviathan plot.  She has no pity for Carolyn either, saying her feelings died when she learned the truth about her husband.  Just a couple of episodes later, however, Barnabas gives her the same reason why she should remove the curse and Angelique turns soft, blathering about her great belief in love.  Not only is this a complete turnaround, but Jeb did not tell her about Sky as Barnabas claims; Barnabas himself did that in a poignant and memorable scene that I mentioned above.  I thought this was a grievous lack of continuity, or maybe Barnabas and Quentin are just more persuasive than Jeb?  This irked me along with the fact that the writers kept changing the rules about how Jeb could die.

Quote
What scene had you closest to tears (because it was so touching)?
Josette's ghost bidding Barnabas a final good-bye.

Quote
What scene had you closest to tears (from laughing)?
Bruno telling Jeb not to worry and then running off to fight the werewolf.  ::)

Quote
Moment or event that made your jaw drop the farthest?
Bruno whipping the werewolf.  I thought that scene was unusually intense.

Quote
Finally, what was your reaction to the storyline the very first time you watched it?
I was actually very interested in Leviathans my first time around. I was prepared for the worst after so many negative comments about it being the nadir of the show, but I didn't feel that it was lousy at all.  It was very strange, but that held my attention because I kept wondering what would happen next.  While I didn't particularly enjoy seeing how people changed under the Leviathan spell or Carolyn's ultimate fate, I wasn't bored during the storyline and I don't hate it.

Most welcome character (the one you were happiest to see)?

Quentin, (even though he didn't have much to do in this storyline) and also Willie.  I felt they both were good characters on the show but disappoined that they were given such minimal parts to play.  I felt they could have done so much more with their characters.

Your favorite character in Leviathans, period.

Paul Stodard.  He was the only sane one out of the bunch and they made him look like a lunatic!   I felt sorry for the poor guy.

Favorite duo (non-romantic)?

Julia & Chris trying to solve his werewolf curse.

Favorite romantic pairing?

Megan & Philip, the way they were when they first came to Collinwood.

Favorite minor character?

Mr Best!!   Because he was so anxious to get rid of Amanda/Olivia.
[9122]

Most irritating character?

Olivia/Amanda & Bruno!! (this one's a tie for me) Between the two of them, I don't know who was worse! [repuke]

Scene(s) you can watch over and over and over and...?

Chris as a werewolf finally giving Bruno what he deserved!![thumb]
Angelique running into Barnabas' arms.

Most wasted opportunity?

Quentin coming back and not having much to do but stand around looking clueless.

Best plot twist?

Jeb deciding that he didn't want to be a "lung" after all and wanted to stay human.

Creepiest moment or event?

Jeb bringing those zombies back from the grave.[crossbones]

Which scene had you yelling at your TV screen the loudest?

Quentin telling Olivia/Amanda that he had been searching for her all these years!! (somehow I find that hard to believe) [puke]

What moment made you cheer the loudest?

Barnabas realizing that he didn't want to be a leviathan after all and finally telling Julia the whole story.

Moment in which you most wondered, "What were the writers smoking?"

Bringing back Peter Bradford's ghost to haunt Jeb![huhg]

Event or revelation that made you ask, "What were the writers smoking?"

That whole Charles Deleware Tate thing with the head rolling off onto the floor!  That had to be the most silliest thing I've seen so far on the show.[spin] [rollb]

Favorite quote?

Angelique saying: "I've given up my powers and I am happily married to a wonderful man!"    (if we could believe that one then we could believe anything!)

Favorite special effect?

That silly looking shadow!

Ugliest outfit?

Those "Mike Brady" plaid slacks worn by Philip Todd!

Stupidest continuity error (the most horrendous job of retconning in this storyline)?

When Anglelique puts that love spell on Maggie & Quentin and once again we see the pitch fork appear on their hands.  It was dejavu all over again.  IMO this just didn't fit into the storyline at all and even though Angelique had regained her powers back I was kind of hoping that she was way past that same old jealousy stuff by now.[nono]

What scene had you closest to tears (because it was so touching)?

Well. as much as I couldn't take Jeb I did feel bad for Carolyn who seemed to be so in love with him, then marries him only to have a miserable honeymoon and wind up a widow.
Also, when Carolyn loses her father Paul Stodard after finally getting to know him a bit.  Thought this was so sad, she waited 20 years for him and then he's suddenly taken away from her.[cryg]

What scene had you closest to tears (from laughing)?

That silly smile on Paul Stoddard's corpse!

Moment or event that made your jaw drop the farthest?

Philip confessing to all the murders!

What nagging question were you left with?  (Uh, try to narrow it down, please. )

What was Quentin's real purpose there? [confused5] They left him little to do except chase Barnabas & Julia around Collinwood to find out what the heck was going on.   I think the most exiting parts he had was when he was physically fighting with Jeb!
Also, what was the sole purpose of Angelique putting that love spell on Quentin & Maggie? Where did this lead?  They sort of left the whole thing up in the air.
And what happened to Ned Stuart?   He was so against his sister being with Chris, yet he drops out of site as soon as she's normal again.
And lastly, why on earth did they have to find the need to bring back Peter Bradford's ghost to haunt Jeb? [5363] Were we suppose to believe that Jeb lived in the past also?  They should have left the Peter/Vicky story as it was.

Finally, what was your reaction to the storyline the very first time you watched it?

Never again!!

Thanks Midnite,  I love doing these!

Oh, goody! A poll :)

Quote
Most welcome character (the one you were happiest to see)?
Quentin.

Quote
Your favorite character in Leviathans, period.
Ice Queen Liz

Quote
Favorite duo (non-romantic)?
Uh... no takers here,sorry.

Quote
Favorite romantic pairing?
Given my choices I'll have to go with pre-box Megan and Philip.

Quote
Favorite minor character?
Mrs. Purdy (I think that's the name). The drunk with the birdcage played by Camilla Ashland.

Quote
Most irritating character?
Amanda Harris. Do I need to explain why?

Quote
Scene(s) you can watch over and over and over and...?
Hmmm...I rather liked the bit where Ice Queen Liz stands over the prone body of her estranged husband and tells him coldly that she never wanted him back.

Quote
Most wasted opportunity?
Quentin. They totally misused him, but the thought was nice.

Quote
Best plot twist?
In theory it would have been learning that Jeb was a Leviathan. But in practice, no takers.

Quote
Creepiest moment or event?
That bit with Michael punishing David in the antique shop. It looked really cheesy when I was fastforwarding through it, but when I actually went back and watched it was pretty weird.

Quote
Which scene had you yelling at your TV screen the loudest?
The return of Roger Davis.

Quote
What moment made you cheer the loudest?
When Angelique dispatched Peter to his grave forever.

Quote
Moment in which you most wondered, "What were the writers smoking?"
I think the pertinent question would be "Moment in which you wondered if sobriety had returned to the writers." However, for the purposes of this quiz: Much of the flower of Jeb and Carolyn's romance crap--no, really, he's a hero!

Quote
Event or revelation that made you ask, "What were the writers smoking?"
The emphasis on those weird people down at the antique shop.

Quote
Favorite quote?
"Whatever made you think for one moment that I wanted you back."

Quote
Favorite prop?
The construction paper shadow  8)

Quote
Favorite special effect?
The dream sequences were pretty cool.

Quote
Least favorite special effect?
I have to pick?

Quote
Favorite outfit?
Liz (surprise) in her black dress with the open collar.

Quote
Ugliest outfit?
Tie: Jeb's "fly" peacock blue suit vs. Bruno's fur coat.

Quote
Stupidest continuity error (the most horrendous job of retconning in this storyline)?
Oh, God. There were so many. The whole damn plot was an exercise in how not to write a TV show. The Vicki Winters crap (which frankly I refuse to believe).

Quote
What scene had you closest to tears (because it was so touching)?
No takers.

Quote
What scene had you closest to tears (from laughing)?
"I am the great and powerful Charles Delaware Tate"

Quote
Moment or event that made your jaw drop the farthest?
A few from unfortunate fashion choices, but that's about it really.

Quote
What nagging question were you left with?  (Uh, try to narrow it down, please. :))
What were Dan Curtis and the writers smoking? Seriously. There were some excellent performances and a few really interesting concepts, but it fell apart. They ended it poorly when it would have been so easy to at least do something right (like keep the characters' memories intact).

Quote
Finally, what was your reaction to the storyline the very first time you watched it?
I think I'd heard bad press, so I was probably prejudiced, but my expectations were met.

Quote
Most welcome character (the one you were happiest to see)?
Angelique, if she counts since she was gone for awhile. If she doesn't, then I'd choose Nicholas Blair.

Quote
Your favorite character in Leviathans, period.
I liked Carolyn in the beginning and middle, pre-Jeb, when she first met her father and when he was going insane. I also enjoyed Angelique's appearances in this storyline.

Quote
Favorite duo (non-romantic)?
Dr. Julia Hoffman and Barnabas Collins.

Quote
Favorite romantic pairing?
Megan and Philip Todd, before the entire Leviathan mess.

Quote
Favorite minor character?
Mrs. Purdy. Nell Gunston was also pretty good.

Quote
Most irritating character?
Jeb Hawkes!

Quote
Scene(s) you can watch over and over and over and...?
The sequence of events from when Angelique found out Sky was a Leviathan.

Quote
Most wasted opportunity?
Paul Stoddard. They could've done so much better with him. All they had him do was meet Carolyn, go insane, and die. Quentin Collins also didn't have that great of a storyline either, especially after Amanda died.

Quote
Best plot twist?
I can't think of one at the moment.

Quote
Creepiest moment or event?
Probably when Michael locked up David in the antique shop. Or when Barnabas punished Philip in the Old House.

Quote
Which scene had you yelling at your TV screen the loudest?
The wedding of Carolyn and Jeb.

Quote
What moment made you cheer the loudest?
Jeb Hawkes falling off Widow's Hill.  :)

Quote
Moment in which you most wondered, "What were the writers smoking?"
The return of Peter Bradford. Thank God Angelique got rid of him after only two episodes.

Quote
Event or revelation that made you ask, "What were the writers smoking?"
The death of Victoria Winters. Jeb in his human form wasn't even alive back then, was he?

Quote
Favorite quote?
I'm not so good at remembering lines, so...  :-[

Quote
Favorite special effect?
I like the special effects they use for dreams now. The old way they did dreams - where there was that spiral thing in the middle - got old after awhile.

Quote
Least favorite special effect?
The shadow.

Quote
Ugliest outfit?
Bruno's UGLY UGLY fur coat. -_-

Quote
Stupidest continuity error (the most horrendous job of retconning in this storyline)?
There were a lot of continuity errors about the Leviathans/Jeb and their/his powers. I also didn't like the one in which they revealed that Jeb killed Vicki when he wasn't even alive in the time period she was in.  ::)

Quote
What scene had you closest to tears (because it was so touching)?
When Jeb died and became a widow. Even though the entire Jeb dying thing is good, I guess it wasn't too good for Carolyn. -_-

Quote
What scene had you closest to tears (from laughing)?
When Jeb and Megan dug up Paul Stoddard's body and it was smiling at them.

Quote
Moment or event that made your jaw drop the farthest?
Carolyn actually accepting Jeb's proposal. Carolyn certainly knows how to ruin her life once per storyline, doesn't she?

Quote
What nagging question were you left with?  (Uh, try to narrow it down, please. :))
Did the writers/Dan Curtis hate us SO much that they did this storyline to drive us crazy?

Quote
Finally, what was your reaction to the storyline the very first time you watched it?
This was my first time. The plot was good in the beginning, but after Jeb arrived things started to fall apart, imo.

Quote
Most welcome character (the one you were happiest to see)?

Quentin

Quote
Your favorite character in Leviathans, period.

Carolyn. The writers really gave her some meaty material to work with - well, pre-CIP that is...

Quote
Favorite duo (non-romantic)?

Julia and Chris. They made a perfect team when they were trying to get to the bottom of Barnabas' "problem" and the truth about "Olivia".

Quote
Favorite romantic pairing?

Hmmm... Jeb and Bruno. You can't tell me that two people fight like that without something else behind it! And they made such a perfect pair. A pair of what, though, I don't know. [lghy]

My own category: LEAST Favorite romantic pairing?

Hands down it goes to Mr and Mrs. Sky Rumson!! Talk about a credibility gap! ::)

Quote
Favorite minor character?

Nelle Gunston. I really like Elizabeth Eis.

Quote
Most irritating character?

Do *I* even have to answer that? [b003]

Quote
Scene(s) you can watch over and over and over and...?

Well, Roger calling Jeb "A Cheap, Insufferable Pig" comes to mind. ;) But seriously, there are quite a few great moments (particularly in the first half of the story). Some that come to mind:
Quote
Most wasted opportunity?

Probabaly the two biggest are the appearances of Paul and Quentin. But Paul was never intended to be a continuing character, so I can forgive his waste more than I forgive that of Quentin, who was nearly as popular as Barnabas when it came to fan appeal.

Quote
Best plot twist?

Was there one? Perhaps I blinked and missed it...

Quote
Creepiest moment or event?

I think I'd also go with Barnabas programming Philip to kill Megan.

Quote
Which scene had you yelling at your TV screen the loudest?

Whoa! Way too many to count, much less list!

Quote
What moment made you cheer the loudest?

Toss up between the deaths of Jeb and Bruno and the banishment of Peter

Quote
Moment in which you most wondered, "What were the writers smoking?"

Moment?! Try the entire second half of the story!

Quote
Event or revelation that made you ask, "What were the writers smoking?"

Well, Philip's whole incarceration for the murders Jeb had committed would definitely rank up there!

Quote
Favorite quote?

Do I even need to list it? [wink2]

Quote
Favorite prop?

Carolyn's feather duster. The sight of her dusting around the antique shop never fails to make me laugh out loud. :)

My own category: LEAST Favorite prop(s)?

Those stuffed and mounted animal heads at the antique shop. What the hell were they even doing in an antiques shop?!!

Quote
Favorite special effect?

Not a special effect, but having Carolyn's childhood self torture Paul was certainly a special affect against him.

Quote
Least favorite special effect?

The whole fun house dream that turned Liz into a Leviathan.

Quote
Favorite outfit?

The gray suit Quentin wore during the end of the storyline. I had one just like it. ;)

Quote
Ugliest outfit?

Not really an outfit, and more laughable than ugly, but "Grant's" head bandage after the accident. It looked like he should have been marching and playing a drum during the Revolutionary War - not like something from the 20th century! [lghy]

Quote
Stupidest continuity error (the most horrendous job of retconning in this storyline)?

Anything having to do with the Leviathans' purpose and their rules. They seemed to change from scene to scene, never mind from episode to episode!!

Quote
What scene had you closest to tears (because it was so touching)?

All of Carolyn's immediately following Paul's death.

Quote
What scene had you closest to tears (from laughing)?

Any involving zombie Sheriff "Shemp" Davenport. :D

Quote
Moment or event that made your jaw drop the farthest?

Well, from incredulity, it would have to be the fact that anyone believed for even one second that Philip had committed the murders. Take your pick of any one of those individual scenes!

Quote
What nagging question were you left with?  (Uh, try to narrow it down, please. :))

What the hell ever made DC think this plot would be a worthy followup to 1897?!!

Quote
Finally, what was your reaction to the storyline the very first time you watched it?

I absolutely hated this storyline with a passion when I first saw it as a kid. (Though as an adult I've come to appreciate a lot of it for aspects that completely went over my head back then. But it's still and probably always will remain my least favorite.)

Most welcome character:  Paul Stoddard.

Favorite character in the Leviathans:  Alexander (he was such a wonderfully creepy little kid; everyone knew someone like that growing up).

Favorite non-romantic duo:  David and Amy.

Favorite romantic pairing:  Megan and Philip.

Favorite minor character:  Audrey, the Vampire Girl.

Most irritating character:  Charles Delaware Tate.

Scene you can watch over and over:  Angelique's heart-felt, anguished embrace of Barnabas.

Most wasted opportunity:  not keeping Paul Stoddard on.

Best plot twist:  Angelique's return and attempt to live like Samantha Stevens.

Creepiest moment or event:  not showing Jeb's true form.

Scene which had me yell at the TV the loudest:  whenever they couldn't make up their minds exactly what conditions and places were necessary for Jeb to become the Dunwich Horror and back to human and back to the Dunwich Horror.

What moment made you cheer the loudest:  when Roger called Jeb a pig.

Moment in which I wondered what the writers were smoking:  see Scene which made me yell at the TV the loudest.

Even that made me ask what the writers were smoking:  see Scene which made me yell at the TV the loudest.

Favorite quote:  Elizabeth to Paul:  "What made you think I would ever want you back?"  (She said it with such cold, wonderful cruelty.)

Favorite prop:  the Naga box.

Favorite special effect:  spirit of Nicholas rising from his body.

Least favorite special effect:  that bat (whether the stuffed bird or the super-imposed cut-out).

Favorite outfit:  Angelique's wardrobe.

Ugliest outfit:  Philip's wardrobe.

Stupidest continuity error:  if Olivia Corey was a famous Broadway actress, how could Quentin not have known she was Amanda a long time before and high-tailed it to New York.

What scene had me the closest to tears from being touching:  Angelique and Barnabas embracing.

What scene had me the closest to tears from laughing:  the dummy of CDT laughing; talk about wooden acting.

Moment that made my jaw drop the farthest:  the first confrontation between Elizabeth and Paul (because it was so well done).

What nagging question I was left with:  if the Leviathans were such a rather strong lot, why can't they just whip up another essence and start all over again?

My reaction to the storyline the first time I saw it:  I really, really liked it!  I still do!

Scene(s) you can watch over and over and over and...?

Paul Stoddard's smiling cut-out head in the coffin.  I still haven't taped over it and show it to everyone who comes into my house.  (Most have the same weird sense of humor as me)

Ain't it the truth, Jennifer?  Just imagine it:

Quentin:  "Oh, Amanda.  I've searched and searched and finally I've found you."

Amanda:  "Yes, my darling Quentin.  I can't believe you didn't figure it out before.  I mean, I've been on Broadway, in movies, on television.  I've won Oscars, Tonys, Emmys, Grammys, Golden Globes, all of them."

Quentin:  "What name were you using?"

Amanda:  "Barbra Streisand."

Quentin:  "Sorry.  Doesn't ring a bell."

Quote
Least favorite special effect?

The whole "underworld" Quentin and Amanda had to travel through - especially the big fake spider.

Quote
Favorite outfit?

Jeb's groovy duds, baby.8)

Quote
Stupidest continuity error (the most horrendous job of retconning in this storyline)?

Which one to choose? Chris had been confined to the mausoleum room pre-1897 because he was changing into a werewolf even when there was no full moon, and not changing back. Post 1897, he was only changing during the full moon. No explanation of the back track.

Quote
What scene had you closest to tears (because it was so touching)?

Not exactly close to tears, but when Angelique returned to the Old House and was comforted by Barnabas (after finding out he was right about Sky) it was pretty special.

Quote
What scene had you closest to tears (from laughing)?

The big fake spider coming after Amanda.

Quote
Moment or event that made your jaw drop the farthest?

Mrs. Rumson? Meet Mr. Nicholas Blair. (A classic moment!)

Quote
Finally, what was your reaction to the storyline the very first time you watched it?

The first time I watched it was during the last run-thru on Sci Fi. They had cut the show down to one half-hour episode a day and it was painfully slow.

This was the second time I watched it and it didn't seem as bad in one-hour installments. Actually, up until Paul's death, it played out rather well. I think there was lots of potential there but unfortunately it all fell apart about halfway through. :P 8)

Oh Yippeeee!   A poll!!!!

Most welcome character (the one you were happiest to see)?
Nickolas Blair

Your favorite character in Leviathans, period.
Elizabeth,  I loved the chilling coldness that she portrayed throughout this storyline because it was so unlike her usual characters.

Favorite duo (non-romantic)?
Julia & Quentin

Favorite romantic pairing?
Megan & Philip  (who else were there)

Favorite minor character?
Mrs.Gurney

Most irritating character?
Bruno!!  (and his hair!!)

Scene(s) you can watch over and over and over and...?
Amanda falling off the cliff!!

Most wasted opportunity?
Not to have a better story concerning Carolyn and her father Paul Stoddard.  I would have like to have them develop a somewhat father/daughter relationship before they so rapidly killed him off.

Best plot twist?
Angelique meeting up with Nickolas Blair again!!

Which scene had you yelling at your TV screen the loudest?
Peter Bradford's ghost appearing to Jeb!

What moment made you cheer the loudest?
Chris getting rid of Bruno!!

Moment in which you most wondered, "What were the writers smoking?"
There were many moments in which I wondered that but the most that comes to mind is when Peter Bradford's ghost returned to haunt Jeb.  Why on earth did they have to squeeze this into the storyline?  Come on already, we've had enough of Peter Bradford!!!

Event or revelation that made you ask, "What were the writers smoking?"
Peter Bradford implying that Jeb was responsible for Vicky's death!!  This really disappointed me because I liked how the Vicky/Peter storyline ended with the two of them finally happy and I would have liked to keep it at that!   I feel the writers spoiled a major part of a story for alot of viewers here, they should have left well enough alone.

Favorite prop?
Naga Box

Favorite special effect?
Elizabeth's dream sequence

Least favorite special effect?
that crazy cut out shadow!

Favorite outfit?
I really liked Elizabeth's black dress.

Ugliest outfit?
Bruno's fur coat

What scene had you closest to tears (because it was so touching)?
Carolyn loosing her father and then standing there at his tombstone in the cemetary.  It was so heartbreaking to see her like this, knowing that she had just found her father and it looked like it was the beginning of a real father/daughter relationship, then all hell broke loose.

What scene had you closest to tears (from laughing)?
Sky running around looking ridiculous with that fire poker!

Moment or event that made your jaw drop the farthest?
Seeing Peter Bradford's ghost haning in David's room!  I said to myself, oh no, not again!

What nagging question were you left with?  (Uh, try to narrow it down,
please. )

There are too many to list.  First of all what happened to Oberon and Haza?  They were appearing to Barnabas whenever they felt he did something that wasn't approved by them, yet Jeb destroys the whole leviathan alter and nothing happens?

Finally, what was your reaction to this storyline?
Well since this was my first time viewing it I have to say that Im pretty glad thats it's over and it will certainly be a long time before I decided to watch this storyline again.

PETOFI!!! Closely followed by Laura

Quote
Favorite duo (non-romantic)?
Barn & Ang...especially regarding Q & Laura

Quote
Favorite romantic pairing?
Petofi & Aristede  >:D (sorry, couldn't resist!)

Quote
Favorite minor character?
Carl Collins

Quote
Most irritating character?
Gregory AND Minerva Trask

Quote
Scene(s) you can watch over and over and over and...?
Minerva Trask's 'haunting' of Judith; scenes with Petofi as David.

Quote
Most wasted opportunity?
Not explaining the whole Quentin haunting/the extra bodies in his room, like why David in 1969?

Quote
Best plot twist?
When/where Angelique makes Dopplegangers for herself & Barn.

Quote
Creepiest moment or event?
Again, Minerva...just quietly sitting there, oh so menacingly towards Judith!!

Quote
Which scene had you yelling at your TV screen the loudest?
SHE'S NOT JOSETTE....JOSETTE IS DEAD...DON'T FOLLOW HER!!

Quote
What moment made you cheer the loudest?
ANY time Angelique had a one-upsmanship on Petofi

Quote
Moment in which you most wondered, "What were the writers smoking?"
The whole thing with Nicholas telling Tim to "Kill...this is the Queen of Spades..."

Quote
Event or revelation that made you ask, "What were the writers smoking?"
Love Nancy Barrett...but the whole Pansy Faye thing became a bit annoying IMHO.

Quote
Favorite quote?
"I'M GONNA DANCE FOR YOU" (I know!)

Quote
Favorite prop?
There are no props except the TELEPHONE. The TELEPHONE IS 1897!!

Quote
Favorite special effect?
Quentin's portrait.

Quote
Least favorite special effect?
ELECTRICITY...AKA THOSE COLORED FLICKERED LIGHTS....AAAHHH!!!

Quote
Favorite outfit?
Can't remember...something Laura wore.

Quote
Ugliest outfit?
Ick...Magdawear!

Quote
Stupidest continuity error (the most horrendous job of retconning in this storyline)?
Again....Josette

Quote
What scene had you closest to tears (because it was so touching)?
When Quentin and David thought they lost love and trust for each other.  :'(

Quote
What scene had you closest to tears (from laughing)?
Anything with Tim Shaw.

Quote
Moment or event that made your jaw drop the farthest?
Where Quentin says, "But I saw Laura die in a fire in Alexandria".

Quote
What nagging question were you left with?
(Uh, try to narrow it down, please. :))...COME ON...what other question is there save....WHAT BECAME OF PETOFI???

Quote
Finally, what was your reaction to the storyline the very first time you watched it?
Enjoyed the Laura arc; hated the 'modern' conveniences (in abundance, in Maine, in 1897!!), actually, hated Petofi first time 'round, (whereas I loved the Josette skitch). Also, I hadn't yet watched earlier eps, so I didn't know about Laura.

Wow! It's been awhile since I did one of these, but you dragged me out, Midnite, go'blessya.  I've been on the "Yay Leviathan" bandwagon with Steve for nearly seven years (oh yes, kiddies, I've been around these forums for a long, long time), so I think this should be fun to do.

Most welcome character (the one you were happiest to see)?  Angelique Rumson!

Your favorite character in Leviathans, period.  See above.

Favorite duo (non-romantic)?  Chris Jennings and Julia Hoffman.

Favorite romantic pairing?  Chris Jennings and Quentin Collins.  No, just kidding.  Um ... Maggie and Quentin, post love spell.  Doesn't really make sense, and they never really elaborated on it again after using it as a plot device to have Amy find out that Maggie is a spy and to later use her to help find Quentin ... well, never mind.  I guess they did use it after all.  Huh.

Favorite minor character?  Mr. Best!

Most irritating character?  Awexandah.  Or maybe Michael.  Or maybe Jeb!

Scene(s) you can watch over and over and over and...?  The entire episode where Angelique runs from Sky's torch (!), flies back to Collinwood, spars with Quentin, taunts Sky, begs for Barnabas' reconciliation, finds him with Maggie, and calls on the Powers of Darkness to put the love whammy on Maggie and Quentin.  Plus it was cool to see that pitchfork again that hadn't made its appearance since 1795.

Most wasted opportunity?  Making Barnabas a true agent of the Leviathans, or at least making his break away from them more believable.  Maybe if he'd been seduced by them or something ... but nope, it's always gotta be about possession with these people.

Best plot twist?  Sky as Leviathan bad guy.

Creepiest moment or event?  The dead sheriff (who's first name, apparently, was "Sheriff") getting noshed on by the werewolf.  I mean, ew.  Really.

Which scene had you yelling at your TV screen the loudest?  Barnabas' dastardly treatment of loyal to a fault Julia.

What moment made you cheer the loudest?  When Angelique used her little statue thingie to throttle Sky into subservience.

Moment in which you most wondered, "What were the writers smoking?"  Sombrero ghost?

Event or revelation that made you ask, "What were the writers smoking?"  Jeb killed Victoria Winters?  Whahfuh?

Favorite quote?  "At the risk of sounding ... banal ... it's a small world, isn't it?"

Favorite prop?  The floppy bat versus Angelique's strangley statue thingie, the one she "casually mentioned liking" to Sky, the big dope.

Favorite special effect?  The green light that always appears in the corner when Angelique materializes (love how she steps out of corners.)

Least favorite special effect?  The shadow.  Oy, the shadow (and we haven't seen the last of it yet, kids, so don't relax just yet!)

Favorite outfit?  Angelique's blue dress she wears to Collinwood, replete with matching leopard print coat.  Watch thoses hips sway-sway-sway!

Ugliest outfit?  Angelique's pink dress.  I'm pretty sure there was a pink dress.  There should NEVER be pink dresses.

Stupidest continuity error (the most horrendous job of retconning in this storyline)?  I think Barnabas is trying to justify to Angelique why she should give up her plot to kill Jeb, and he says it's because he told her about Sky.  Um ... nope, sorry Big B, that was you.

What scene had you closest to tears (because it was so touching)?  Angelique's return to Collinwood.  "I lived her ... loved here ... for a time I was very happy.  This is where it all started, Quentin."

What scene had you closest to tears (from laughing)?  I liked the photo of Paul Stoddard in the coffin.  But like I said, the revelation that Sheriff Davenport's first name is "Sheriff" makes me giggly.

Moment or event that made your jaw drop the farthest?  Nicholas' ghost sitting up out of Nicholas' body.  I thought something cooler could've happened, like maybe his big giant floaty head.

What nagging question were you left with?  (Uh, try to narrow it down, please. )  How many ways are there to kill a Leviathan?  (And what did they put in Bruno's hair???)

Finally, what was your reaction to the storyline the very first time you watched it?  I watched it while painting the interior of my parents' house in the summer of '94 (I was fifteen).  I adored it.  I loved the costumes, the colors, and the fact that there were so many monsters ... we had the werewolf, we had the moon poppy, we had Angelique (looking fantastic everytime we saw her, 'cept for this unfortunate weird braid wrapping thing ... Steve knows what I'm talking about), we had Barnabas the re-re-revampire, we had Audrey, we had goofy weird breathing rhino radiator things, we had ghosts and warlocks and Nelle Gunston with her l'il knife ... I mean, c'mon guys, we had it ALL!  Plus Liz Stoddard tried to kill people.  You can't ask for more than that.

MOST WELCOME CHARACTER:
The return of Nicholas Blair (as charming and devious as ever!)

FAVORITE CHARACTERS IN LEVIATHANS PERIOD:
Of course Barnabas, even if he was as cold as ice to poor Chris and Julia at the beginning of the story

FAVORITE DUO (NON-ROMANTIC):
Julia and Chris

FAVORITE ROMANTIC PAIRING:
Megan and Philip, all too briefly unfortunately

FAVORITE MINOR CHARACTER:
The lady who Philip bribed to lie to Julia about caring for Michael

MOST IRRITATING CHARACTER:
The Leviathan brats, Alexander and Michael

SCENES YOU CAN WATCH OVER AND OVER AND OVER:
[spoiler]Barnabas dreams about reverting back to being a vampire after refusing Michael's order to kill Julia and
Barnabas finally telling Julia how he came under the Leviathans' power[/spoiler]

MOST WASTED OPPORTUNITY:
Poor Quentin had very little do other than being a sympathetic shoulder to cry on after [spoiler]Amanda was killed off[/spoiler]

BEST PLOT TWIST:
[spoiler]Nicholas and Sky revealed as good friends and co-conspirators with the Leviathans[/spoiler]

CREEPIEST MOMENT OR EVENT:
Again [spoiler]Barnabas' dream about becoming a vampire again and attacking the woman who suddenly appeared out of nowhere and wanted to see the inside of his house.[/spoiler]

WHICH SCENE HAD YOU YELLING AT YOUR TV SCREEN THE LOUDEST:
[spoiler]learning that Jeb had killed Vicki (which I still refuse to accept) when she was supposed to have lived
happily ever after with Peter Bradford (who was supposed to have been hanged for killing Jeb)[/spoiler]

WHICH SCENE MADE YOU CHEER THE LOUDEST:
[spoiler]when Jeb destroyed the Leviathan box at the alter, thus ending the Leviathan spell over the folks at Collinwood[/spoiler]

MOMENT IN WHICH YOU MOST WONDERED "WHAT WERE THE WRITERS SMOKING?":
Same answer to WHICH SCENE HAD YOU YELLING AT YOUR TV SCREEN THE LOUDEST.

FAVORITE QUOTE:
"There's no margin for error, punishment is necessary" (don't know if I got that exactly right, it might have been 'no room') but the way Barnabas kept saying it over and over was downright creepy!

FAVORITE OUTFIT:
Carolyn's whole wardrobe seem to have improved during the Leviathan storyline (and so much for the better)

STUPIDEST CONTINUITY ERROR:
Again, have to go with the answer from WHICH SCENE HAD YOU YELLING AT YOUR TV THE LOUDEST.

WHAT SCENE HAD YOU CLOSEST TO TEARS (TOUCHING]:
[spoiler]When Barnabas wakes up at the Leviathan altar after being attacked by the bat and realizes he has become a vampire again[/spoiler] I really felt so bad for him...he didn't deserve the cruel punishment Jeb had
levelled against him.

WHAT SCENE HAD YOU CLOSEST TO TEARS (LAUGHING):
[spoiler]The scene where Amanda is trapped in the web and the "spider" is coming after her.[/spoiler]

MOMENT OR EVENT MADE YOUR JAW DROP THE FARTHEST?:
Guess.....I already have written the same answer three or four times. ;D

WHAT NAGGING QUESTION WERE YOU LEFT WITH?:
Couldn't they have given Quentin more to do? Will Chris ever find a way to end his curse?

WHAT'S YOUR REACTION TO THE STORYLINE THE FIRST TIME YOU WATCHED IT?:
Since I was a little girl the first time I watched DS, it was kind of confusing, but now as an adult I appreciate the
story a whole lot more.
