Well I always thought that James E Reilly who writes for Days and who is the creater and head writer of Passions was a Dan Curtis wannabe. Well obviously this proves it. We have the witch Tabitha on Passions. I'm still waiting for the vampire and werewolf story to show.

Which actor or actress on the show do you think did very well at conveying or had trouble conveying the following emotions in a storyline on the show.

Anger
Jealousy
Fear
Love
Hate
Annoyed
Boredom

Example: Grayson Hall always gets accused of over acting. Well the only time I ever see that is when she was in a scene where she had to show fear. She just didn't pull that off well. She seem to try to hard to convey that emotion and it just didn't work exactly the way she intended it to.

Now Grayson Hall had no problem with Love. As Julia everytime she looked at Barnabas it was clear she was in love with him and everytime Barnabas talked about some other woman. She conveyed Jealousy, Anger and Annoyed very well. Those emotions came across very loud and clear.

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Re: Display Problem

Could the monitor tube be going to the bad? Has anyone checked that out?

I know that some tv's get white lines at the top of them when the picture tube is getting ready to go bad or blow as some people refer to it as doing.

Current Talk '05 II / Re: If DS got re-edited?
« on: July 28, 2005, 07:07:33 AM »
Re-edit... I would vote no...

Dark Shadows is a classic and you don't tamper with a classic.

You either like it or you don't... Editing it wouldn't make people like it. If they don't like it to begin with. Then they never will.

One  of my favorite parts is where Count Petofi gets everyone to see themselves as they truly are...
Edward Collins a servant... Evan Hanley writing and signing the murder confession and then getting Gregory Trask to sign it also...
But the best one is Charity Trask as Pansy Faye. Nancy Barrett pulled that off great going from prim and proper to loose and easy. That was so fun to watch.

My "beef" is with the writiing and story direction after 1795. It's hard not to think of something as camp when ya got a Vampire story, a Frankenstein type story, a Warlock type story, a Warewolf story and a Witch story all going on simultaneously. Where's Abbot and Costello or the Marx brothers when you need them? Something was going nutsy with those writers.

But almost any article written that I have read that refers to Dark Shadows as being Campy conveys this point clearly. They aren't referring to the storylines. They are referring to the actors and actresses and how they portrayed their parts on the show in those storylines. So when I hear the term camp. That is what comes to mind and I think that is so unfair.

But now here's a question:  If Dark Shadows had been written in any other way using different stories than the Vampire, Frankenstein, Warlock, Werewolf and the Witch story. Would it have still been the same show and would we still be interested in watching it almost 40 years later?

My theory on this is that it wasn't the scripts... It wasn't the actors, actresses, producers, directors, etc. I think it was more to do with them not being able to do what shows  can do today. That is the ability to edit and reshoot scenes that didn't work the first time around. That was the major factor in why it came across as over the top sometimes.

The actors on Dark Shadows were under alot of pressure, because of how it was filmed and sometimes I  am certain that alot of the over the top acting came from nerves being on edge, because of them having to get the show wrapped at a certain time and on days when they were abit behind schedule. I'm certain that it showed up in their acting on certain days more than others.

As for the bloopers... Yes I like them... Simply because they were part of the show and, yes, sometimes they will make me smile... But that doesn't make me think any less of the actors and actresses acting abilities on Dark Shadows. That just showed they were human.

So I don't see Dark Shadows as being camp. Because considering they couldn't edit out mistakes or reshoot scenes that didn't quite go as planned. Dark Shadows still turned out to be a show worth watching.

Current Talk '05 II / Writer's Block
« on: July 09, 2005, 02:47:53 AM »
This thought came to me... How did the writer's on DS deal with writer's block?
I know that all writer's experience it at one time or another.
But when a book writer experiences it... They have a bit of time to deal with it...
On a soap opera the stories are expected to be coming in quickly since they need material everyday.
So I kind of wondered if that was what happened to the stories that just seem to disappear with no plausible wrap up.
I know that DS had quite a few writer's, but I wonder if they all drew blanks at the same time sometimes?

Current Talk '05 II / Re: The July 8th Episodes (Spoiler!)

My father always had this comment. "Bury me in a three piece suit, but when I pay you a visit from the beyond. I'll be wearing bermuda shorts and a Hawaiian shirt."

Who knows perhaps Sam didn't like what he was buried in and thought he'd look better in shades and a trench coat.

Just my weird thoughts encouraged by my father.

I know some actors and actresses wear jewelry for sentimental reasons and will not remove it. So it has to be concealed... Written into the storyline... Or simply allowed to remain in plain sight with no explination.

I think it was on the soap Another World ... There was this actor who was married in real life... But his character on the show wasn't... So they explained his wedding band away by writing into the storyline that it belonged to his father, who was a policeman, killed in the line of duty on the show.

I guess it depends on the actor or actress and what their views are on whether to remove something that means alot to them.

In the case of a wedding band the views of the spouse have to be taken into consideration also. That ring represents alot and can cause the biggest argument.

I'll tell her you liked it...

If you go to this site... You can see one she did of him as The Magician.

 http://tere-art.com/creative/index.php

Just scroll down to the challenge section and find Other Official Challenges...

Then look for the Tarot Card Challenge. You'll find what she did on page 6. Just look for the post from Mrs.JIsaacs with the thumbnail image. If you click on the thumbnail image it will take you to a larger version.

I don't think you have to register to view stuff on this site... But if you do they have free registration.

I hope I gave good instructions for this...

My friend from art class did this and she said I could share it with you.

We all kind of thought Nicholas Blair was The Devil. Well my friend decided to make it so.

I wonder what Mr. Humbert Allen Astredo would say if he saw himself as this?

Current Talk '05 I / Re: A preponderance of redheads on DS....

Yes I noticed that...

But that was good news for me... Because in school I was the only girl with red hair... The fact that everyone liked DS spared me all the jokes that go along with having that color of hair.
