That is wonderful news, and I'm thrilled that he intends to put it up on his website.

With your existing membership in the DARK SHADOWS DVD CLUB, you'll be the first to have the opportunity to own all 206 never before released episodes of "Dark Shadows

Seems like with that wording...  With your existing membership.  That pehaps joining the club just to get the Pre-Barnabas episodes may have a catch to it.

With some of the items they sale don't you have to be a member for so long to be able to become eligible to purchase them...  I wonder if that is going to apply to the Pre-Barnabas episodes? Especially with new members who are joining simply to get the Pre-Barnabas episodes.

Just wondering...

Current Talk '06 II / Re: Info on Pre-Barnabas DVDs

We're considering changing the club structure to a "Buy 5, Get the 6th free" structure for each year of membership.  There will be no more bobbleheads or other merchandise as part of the club, but we would allow existing club members to determine whether they would like to receive the bobbleheads & other promotional items instead of the revised benefits of getting every 6th installment free.  New club members would only be able to acquire bobbleheads at the discounted club price & would not be able to receive them.

I imagine most people who have a high level of interest in the bobblehead dolls would have long ago joined the club, so I wanted to gather feedback on this new suggestion.  We're trying to find ways to provide a good bargain for customers, but we also have to make sure we do not anger our existing retail distribution network by directly competing with other retailers on price per collection.  This may be a solution that will give fans a chance to get a good deal while not directly publishing discounted prices per volume  Free US STD Ground shipping would still apply for club members.

Again, thank you for allowing me to participate in the discussion. This is just an idea & not "official" information, so please feel free to share any thoughts you may have on the proposed revision to the club...

What about angering the customers?

My better suggestion would be when it comes to the PRE-Barnabas episodes is to sell them to anyone who wants to purchase them. Not to make being a member of the DVD club mandatory. So I say do away with the DVD club. I'd rather pay $59.98 plus postage and be able to actually get them. Than be told that the only way to get them is to become a member of a club I know I don't financially qualify to join.

Barnabas did when he decided that Angelique was the only woman he ever loved.

It was like what? I could not have heard that correctly.

In my opinion... The writer's made her just to much of a villian to have any redeeming qualities. So for me that plot just did not work in 1840.

I have the feeling had the show continued. Angelique would have returned with a vengence.

In regards to the Gregory Trask storyline and the implied child molestation/rape involved in this plot.

I'm surprised this story got past the censors.

So when Barnabas was 30 and Sarah was 10. Naomi would have been 55 years old.

That should have been when Barnabas was 40 and Sarah was 10. Naomi would have been 55 years old.

I think.

Sometimes Dark Shadows is confusing when one tries to use reason to explain what the writer's were doing within the storyline.

as for the 30-odd year age difference between barnabas and sarah i always thought that was kind of ridiculous.

It really depends on the age Naomi was when she had Barnabas. It wasn't uncommon for girls to be married off before they were 15 years old in the 1700s.

Taking that into account. Joshua didn't seem all that fond of Naomi. So it wouldn't be to hard to reason that after Barnabas was born. Joshua and Naomi might not have shared a bed anymore. Joshua may have gone other places for his entertainment.

Then one day Joshua changed his mind.  Hence came Sarah so many years later.

If say Naomi was 15 when she had Barnabas. She would have been about 45 when Sarah was born. So it isn't impossible for a thirty year age difference to seperate children in a family.

So when Barnabas was 30 and Sarah was 10. Naomi would have been 55 years old.

That is if my math is correct. It really depends on how old Barnabas was suppose to be on the show.

I think it's reprehensible for MPI to treat us fans this way.  [angryf]  I have purchased all of the pre-Barnanbas episodes on VHS and all of the DVD Sets.  I WAS intending to buy the pre-Barnabas DVD's as well, to complete my collection.  However, I am VERY dismayed to hear that ONLY DS DVD Club Members will be able to purchase them.  That really sucks.  [angrg]  We don't deserve to be treated this way.  I refuse to be blackmailed into joining a club to purchase them.  [vryangg] It seems to me that they just want to make more money.  They are greedy SOB's who don't seem to care about their fans.  [6042]  I sincerely hope they change their minds.  I will NOT be purchasing the DVD's through their club.  I am glad I have them on VHS, at least.  [cheesyg] I would gladly sign a petion at the Fest or anyplace else to protest this.

What is annoying to me is that for some strange reason MPI is under the impression that only the DVD Club Members deserve to complete their collection because MPI seems to think that they are the only loyal customers they have. That is the most stupidest idea I have ever heard.

If they are going to be 5 episodes lighter than the current sets, than they should be cheaper.

I was thinking the exact opposite. That they'd be higher since it would seem that fewer people are going to be able to purchase them.

Also I was wondering if Dan Curtis' passing had anything to do with the rules changing? This didn't seem to come up until after he passed away.

I'm sure a checking account Check Card would work just fine.

Yes, but sometimes my checking account is abit on the sick side and MPI wants to automatically send those DVD's out every 2 months and they aren't going to be happy if the money is missing. I can't guarantee that the money will be there every other month due some of my medicine I have to pay for out of pocket. Because certain medicines my insurance doesn't cover.

I have ordered all the Dark Shadows DVD's from MPI, but the way I have been doing it. Is to send them a order along with the payment in full... Which was in the form of a money order.

This paying through a checking account more than likely won't work for me.  Because I have expensive medical bills. That eat my checking account down to the bare bones in certain months. So joining the club is going to be problematic for me and alot of others.

Although final release details have not been completed, the tentative plan is to release these episodes in 6 collections with 35 episodes each plus all-new bonus material.  These collections will be made available exclusively to members of the DVD Club & they will not be available at retail outlets other than the DVD Club at this time.

Well from what I understand to join the DVD Club one must have a credit card. At least it implies that on the application form.
But the thing is not every Dark Shadows fan has a credit card so they can't become a member of the club. So that is going to leave alot of the fans out because they aren't able to become a members of the club.

I wonder if MPI has taken that into account with this brilliant idea of theirs? Especially if I'm clear on the only way to become a member of the club is by having a credit card.

So is  credit card customers the only ones who can become members of the DVD Club?
Actually, the main family had moved to Collinwood by Sara's death.  (Remember Barnabas wasn't cursed until after they had all left.)  She died from pneumonia from going to the Mausoleum to find vampire Barnabas but instead getting caught in the rain.  Thus, she died in the main house.  I believe Barnabas was very close to his sister.
I remember now that you pointed that out.

Which proves I'm as confused as the writer's were on the show. So I can't complain about them messing up. When I did it myself.

Perhaps it was too painful for Barnabas to see his little sister's room again. Maybe he didn't even want Willie in there. He'd often become angry when Willie or Julia would dare even mention her name in his presence. Maybe he kept it locked up?

If I were writing the story, I wouldn't want Sarah to show up in the room in which she died. That would imply that she was trapped there forever and that's just too sad to contemplate. Better to find her playing with her ball out in the gardens. That scenario implies hope.

And yes, I agree with PennyDreadful. Barnabas would surely have kept that room safely locked. Even more so than Josette's room, Sarah's would have been too sacred a place for mere mortals to disturb.

Yes and that would have been an interesting story idea to have restored the room. Locked and forbid anyone to enter it.

It would have been a great mystery had they thought to do that before Sarah appeared on the show.

I understand what you are saying, but... and there is always a but.

One thing about Dark Shadows is they didn't stick to the rules. So having Sarah's room showed. Didn't necessary mean she would have been trapped there. Because Dan Curtis and the writer's didn't stick to traditional rules of how ghost/spirits behaved in the way we always read about in books and saw them portrayed in movies and other tv shows that dealt with spirits.
Sarah died inside the Old House. So most stories I've seen that involve spirits/ghost had it where they were bound not to go beyond the threshold of the place they died. Sarah should have been confined to the Old House by that rule and not been able to go anywhere beyond the walls of the Old House. But Sarah seemed to go pretty much where she wanted to go outside the Old House. She went outside to play with David. She went to Collinwood. She went to Sam Evans'. She went to Wyndcliffe.
I just think it would have been interesting to see how it would have played out had Barnabas  restored the child's room too.
It would have made an interesting story plot had they thought to do that before we knew who Sarah was.

You know it was always interesting to me that when Barnabas had Willie to restore the Old House. They repaired the stairs and, what would be called, the drawing room/living room area was also restored. They definately restored Josette's room, but...

Sarah was suppose to mean as much to Barnabas as Josette did. So it would seem that once Sarah was brought into the story. We would have seen her room also at the Old House also. But they never showed Barnabas in a room that could have been his sister's room and I don't ever remember seeing Sarah in a room at the Old House that could have been her room. I think when Sarah found her party dress. It was in the trunk in Josette's room. If I remember correctly.

It was just abit odd that Barnabas would fail to restore his sister Sarah's room as he had Josette's room.
