Teresa, the subway will typically announce a stop before it comes up. Also, I usually find that most subways have a little map of the routes posted on board and you can follow along with it to figure out when your stop is coming up. I have only been on the NYC subway once, but the one in Toronto is like that, and I imagine it will be the same.

I am currently living in China- where like the U.S. subways, the buses will announce your station before you arrive. However, given my abyssmal Chinese, it is no help whatsoever!!!

It's the big 2-5 for me!

Current Talk '10 II / Humorous moments in 1795
« on: December 02, 2010, 03:58:09 AM »
Greetings!

I have recently been rewatching the 1795 storyline, and after having not seen it for over eight years, everything is fresh and exciting! There are a number of witty comments that I never before noticed or had simply just forgotten, and I have to share a few here (there may be some spoilers):

Joshua is telling Andre DuPres that he should just let the Reverand Trask question him and get it over with. Andre finally concedes, and says something along the lines of "Let the record show that I did not voluntarily consent to questioning. And let the record also show that I was questioned...BY A COMPLETE IDIOT!"

I got quite a chuckle out of that! Then, on the episode I was watching today, Angelique has just been buried alive by Jeremiah and is summoning Ben Stokes to help her. Ben is in the drawing room of the Old House, talking with Reverand Bland, who is there to conduct the marriage ceremony for Barnabas and Angelique. Rev. Bland is asking Ben all sorts of questions about why Joshua and Naomi are not attending the wedding, when Ben gets a far-off look in his eyes as he hears Angelique calling out to him.
Angelique: "Ben, come to me; I need you!"
Ben: "Where are you?!"
Rev. Bland: "I'm right here!"

Ahh, I love these sometimes unintentional funny moments in Dark Shadows. What are some other moments that you have found quite humorous?

Hey everyone!

I used to be here on the message boards MANY years ago (I think the last time I posted was in 2002). Back then I was in my junior year of high school. I believe the Sci-Fi channel then took Dark Shadows off the air, I went away to university, and then on to graduate school. Anyway, I have recently re-discovered my love for Dark Shadows via the DVD series I have gradually started collecting, and let me say, it is great to be back and hooked on the show again!

I randomly stumbled across this message board while I was looking through some Dark Shadows websites the other day, and I suddenly had a memory flashback and remembered I used to post here! And, miraculously, I even remembered my password! I was looking through all my old posts and it was crazy to suddenly see a glimpse of my 16-year-old self again.

I'm not sure how often I'll be able to post on here (I'm now in a PhD program in psychology, which is extremely demanding of my time), but I just had to pop in and say hello! And, in a funny side note, I used to live in Ohio and moved to Canada a few years ago when I started my Masters degree at a university here. Ironically, I am now living less than half an hour away from Jonathan Frid's hometown of Hamilton and my best friend actually lives in Hamilton, so I am there all the time. Whenever we are out in public, I always wonder if perhaps I will run into "Barnabas" out on the town.

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! I had a wonderful day, besides the fact that I have to return to school tomorrow.  :P

Sorry I haven't been posting much lately. School has gotten incredibly busy-senior year- and I never seem to find time to breathe, let alone surf the web! lol. With college and scholarship applications, exams, plus regular schoolwork, life gets pretty busy, but I do manage to check the boards every few weeks.

Once again, thanks for thinking of me!

I am a HELPER WHO FINDS MISSING CHILDREN OVER THE INTERNET (SICF).

You are very tentative in the world and introverted with people--which means you are the shy and silent type. Hence the internet. But behind your reserved exterior lies a dedicated person with a passion for the concrete truth who wants to, in his heart of hearts, help find missing children. God bless you.

Actually, that describes me quite well.

Thanks, MB, that was fun!

Hey everyone!

Yes, everything has passed by now. There wasn't too much damage, just some trees knocked down and the river flooded. I absolutely hate these tornado scares, but since I have lived in the Midwest my whole life, I have gotten pretty used to them. My cousins and I always talk about how everywhere you go in the country, there is always some natural disaster to worry about. Hurricanes down south, earthquakes out west...

I hope everyone had a fabulous Fourth!!!

Mine was great until about an hour or so ago. Our town's tornado siren went off and we spent the past hour in our basement listening to weather reports. A tornado touched ground not far from us and we have severe flood warnings up right now. Needless to say, I think this put a damper on all our festival celebrations!

I really enjoyed the webchat. I was excited too because  my question got answered! :)

Regarding her research on voodoo...
She probably did a lot of research on voodoo in the Caribbean islands and the different "spells" used in Martinique, not necessarily early American voodoo.

I would have to say Maggie. I seem to have a lot of the same mannerisms as her. Plus, I think I can be too nice, just like her, and then you get walked all over.

I'm so depressed! I have never been to a Fest, and my parents said I could go when I was 18. Here it is now the final festival, and I'm only 17, so I can never go.

I know that it must be very hard to have such huge festivals every year, so I understand their decision to end them, but I still wish they could wait one more year!

Current Talk '03 I / Re:Leviathan....the beginning of the end?
« on: April 11, 2003, 11:31:46 PM »
Hi all! While the Leviathan storyline is not one of my favorites, I do enjoy it. I always love when they go back to the past (my favorite being 1840), but I am glad to be back in the present day. The Leviathan story arc is one where some days I absolutely love the episodes, but other days, I am wanting to just move on with the show.

Now, the storyline that really bothers me is 1970 PT, as well as 1841 PT. I just don't like when all the characters we know suddenly change.

-Lindsey

On a factual note, the term Leviathan is actually from the Bible. Leviathans were ancient sea creatures in the Old Testament.

Yep, I just watched that episode also. I was on the computer talking to my friends when I heard the term "Dark Shadows." Immediately, I was glued to the t.v. I found it interesting; I've never heard it mentioned before.

Sorry I haven't been on for awhile. I have been insanely busy lately (ACT, NHS resumes, tests, homework, clubs, ect...), but I always quickly read the messages here on the weekends. This past week, my school choir went to New York City; it was awesome! I kept hoping, since we were driving everywhere, that we'd go by the old DS studio, but I never saw it. But it was a great trip anyway!

-Lindsey, who's glad to be back

Ahhhh! I still get the birthday song, and I wasn't even at school! And that's exactly how it is sung too. Even worse is the 2nd verse...

Cuantos anos tienes tu?
Cuantos anos tienes tu?
Cuantos anos tienes Lindsey?
Cuantos anos tienes tu?

(How old are you, over and over.)

I can't get the accents or tildes either. Thanks everyone for the get well wishes; I'm feeling much better!
