I apologize if this is been posted previously and I missed it—TRILOGY OF TERROR II will be released on Blu-ray on October 22. It will include an interview with  Lysette Anthony.  Here’s a link to the information.

I just checked Audible and Strangers at Collins House and The Mystery of Collinwood are available (release date was 07/0 26/19). I’ve only listened to the first three chapters of Dark Shadows.  It is a slog, not through any fault of KLS (although I would like more variety in her voice when she is reading quotes by different characters, that is my preference only).  The material is just not very good.

After almost 2 years listening to audiobooks, I’ve gotten very particular about my likes and dislikes for narrators. I like to hear character voices in dialogue to help me distinguish one character from another, but I don’t like those to be over the top, either. I’m even annoyed when the narrator takes frequent, audible breasts—even though I know we all have to breathe in order to speak.:)

The samples by KLS do sound pretty good, and I will probably buy these soon. Right now I have three different books going on, so these can wait a few weeks.

The first two books are available for download on Audible.  I'll hold off a few days to see if anyone offers reviews, though.

For all the reasons cited in this thread, I am not optimistic about this release audiobooks of the Ross DS. About three years ago, I began learning the the novels in paperback with the intent of rereading them. Unfortunately, my macular degeneration rapidly decreased my site, and I have been listening to audiobooks ever since because I cannot read anymore. I would love to have these books available by a great narrator (not necessarily an original cast member).
In the intent of this thread is about the books not about my eyes, so please… There is no need to comment with concern about my vision. I’m well-adjusted to it in doing just fine in my early retirement.  Is money good news—that I am able to retire before age 65.  (And I’m glad there are text to speech programs that I can use to listen to the posts, and dictation software I can use to make posts.)

I've always thought that the actor who played Mike Carr on EDGE appeared as an extra in the party scene in HODS.  At least it looks like him...

Looks a little too serious to me.  Even the 1998 movie had some camp to it.   [snow_grin]

But since I haven't seen this new series, I guess I should not judge so quickly.

Thank you all! Another year closer to retirement--and then I can watch DS all day long every day.  .  [snow_silly]

I have Amazon Prime which includes streaming video.  It's somewhat costly for it, perhaps, but with prime free delivery and a lot of free older movies and TV shows (including early DS) to stream, I find value in it--no more HBO or Showtime, or Hulu+, which all cost, too.  Brian

With all the humor surrounding a certain DS heroine’s very frequent use of the phrase “I don’t understand,” I have found myself in recent weeks noticing the use of the phrase by characters in movies and TV shows.  Among them were JJ on DAYS OF OUR LIVES in a recent scene with the character Abe, and in a 1931 movie I streamed called THE DEVIL PLAYS (as well as in another movie I streamed last week.).

This phrase now jumps out at me whenever I hear it—and it seems to be quite common.   [santa_grin]

Patti,

I used to read before going to sleep, but about 6 months ago macular degeneration got the best of me, and reading is not pleasurable and difficult at best (even reading this message board and typing this message is a challenge.)

In June, I started listening to audio books from Amazon Audible on my Kindle.  Cost-wise, I would spend be spending the money to buy an eBook anyway, so paying for a audio book through Amazon is comparable.  I realize that’s not for everybody, though

I can’t speak to free downloads of audio books, but I do find that most (not all!) of the audible books I have bought are professionally read and narrated, and I also love the variety of “full-cast” radio dramas (BBS in particular) that are available.

There is an audible edition of “Dracula” with a full cast of readers, including Alan Cumming and Tim Curry that is excellent!  It’s not a dramatization, but actually the original book as read by the cast.  Cumming reads Dr. Seward, and Curry reads Van Helsing.

Just thought I would add my two cents.

Happy listening!

Brian

THE RED HOUSE is excellent, with an ending that you won't soon forget.  I've never seen any versions of SCARLET LETTER, but I think I'm going to look for it.
