I have been listening to the audiobooks of Stephen King’s DARK TOWER series, and am nearly finished with SONG OF SUSANNAH: THE DARK TOWER VI.  I had to laugh when, out of nowhere, Barnabas Collins and DARK SHADOWS were referenced.

I recorded the last 4 shows on my cassette recorder and listened to that tape for many years until the VHS tapes were released.

50 years ago today, Friday, April 2, 1971, DARK SHADOWS aired its final episode.

I remember that day well—the disappointment that my favorite show was ending.  But here we are 50 years later, still watching and celebrating one of television’s most unique daytime dramas.

Thanks to the cast, crew and fans for helping to keep DS alive.

I agree with you about streaming apps like CBS All Access (and Disney+, etc.)  I do have cable, but the only streaming I have is Amazon Prime, which streams through my Blu-Ray player, and I don’t use Netflix, either.  Over the years, I have built up a nice movie collection, and there is more than enough on my own DVDs/Blu-Rays to keep me occupied for hours on end.  I won’t pay those streaming services, really more on principal than anything else.

And I also like the 1994 version of “The Stand.”

Happy Birthday, Darren.  Thanks much for all your work on behalf of DS, and esp. NODS.  Here’s hoping your efforts will be seen next year on the NODS 50th anniversary.. [hall2_smiley]

My first thought when I saw her green dress was how much it reminded me of all those 1960s DS lime green dresses, and then I sdaw the green screen posts.  They were much more fun.

Oh yay—more CGI wolf effects. Just what I want to see.  And how bad was the 2010 remake?

Either the seller has not researched the price for this (e.g. on Amazon or they’re hoping a buyer doesn’t do that research.   [ghost_wink]

Current Talk '24 I / Quotes with the word “MUST.”

I am loving the picture quotes with the word “MUST.”  That’s probably as oft-repeated as “I don’t understand,” or an actor repeating the last word of the previous actor’s line.

As an Audible subscriber, I get discounts, and the DS books cost me $7.34 for download to Kindle Fire.

Thank you all.  It was a great day!

When the DS audiobook series was first announced with KLS as reader/narrator, I was concerned that they would not compare to other audiobooks that I have heard. Specifically, many narrators do voice characterizations when reading dialogue. I like this because it helps me to follow the different characters.

The first two books in the series did not differentiate between the characters. However—and I am happy to report this—in “Strangers at Collins House” KLS has started doing some characterizations for certain characters. In reading dialogue for Henry Collins, Ms. Scott lowers the pitch of her voice and gives it a slight roughness. She makes distinctions for several other male characters and the one new female character heard so far, as well.

This will make the series much more enjoyable for me.

THANK YOU, KLS!

I’m in chapter 4 of “Victoria Winters.” It took a while to get through the first book, but as I started to get used to KLS’s style, listening was more appealing to me. Not much happens in the first DS book (and I suspect I will find that true of most of them—of course, when I was 13 I didn’t notice such things.)

Anyway, I’m going to listen to them in order. They are a nice, relaxing change from the Stephen King books I have been listening to.

And “The Peril of Barnabas Collins” was the first DS book I read.
