Current Talk '02 II / Nicholas Blair's "Unique" Hand Gesture
« on: September 06, 2002, 02:58:53 AM »
Hey gang,

Did you notice when Nicholas pointed his finger at and rubbed it against Adam's chest today, Nicholas used his middle finger rather than his forefinger to make the gesture?

You know, the use of that particular finger has been politely described as giving someone, the "half-a-peace-sign" gesture.  (It's also impolitely described as just plain giving someone "THE" finger!)

Do you think that Nicholas was sending some subliminal message to both Adam and Mr. B.?  It may have been the only time on Dark Shadows that someone allegedly flashed another person an obscene gesture.  I pray that I'm wrong about this.  So, what do you think?

Sincerely,

Bob the Bartender, who, now, symbolically flashes everyone the FULL peace sign.

Hey, ya gotta love that blue sailor suit!  By the way, IMHO, KLS looks far lovelier with the dark brown hair she was sporting today, than that reddish brown coif she had the other day.

Dear Blue Whale Barfly,

Yes, it was heartening to see Barnabas finally show some concern for Maggie.  I guess it's a case of better late than never.

Cassandra,

The name of that flick was "Not Without MY Daughter."  If Dan Curtis had done a DS spinoff of that film, he probably would have entitled it "Not Without My Leviathan Child."

Hey gang,

From these rather pointed and candid statements about AM's replacement, I guess it's safe to say that, along with the great Addison Powell, Ms. Betsy Durkin will most definitely NOT be attending any Dark Shadows festivals in the near future!

Bob the Bartender, who's grateful that Dan Curtis never replaced Bob O'Connell, at least, during any of the so-called "real time" DS episodes.

VAM,

How about Jeff Clark, who, while he managed to keep his hair perfectly coiffed as he dug up "Peter Bradford's" coffin, nevertheless accidentally knocked over Bill Malloy's (?) gravestone when the "Clark Bar" man stormed out of the Eagle Hill Cemetary?

Bob the Bartender, who also enjoyed seeing the learned T. Elliot Stokes dig up Barnabas' coffin earlier during this story line.

Hey gang,

This is truly strange. There must be a full moon out or something.  I know that March 6 is the birthday of Ed McMahon, Shaquilel O'Neal, (it's also the day that the Alamo fell to Gen. Santa Anna in 1836).

Now, I know that Craig Slocum's dad and the late Daniel Keyes were born on that same day.  March 6 also happens to be the birthday of, yours truly, Bob the Bartender (but, I won't tell you what year it was!)

Bob the Bartender, who will now tune into the "Twilight Zone" or perhaps "Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction?" on the Sci-Fi channel.  Beam me up, Scotty!!!

Craig Slocum,

The Eagle Hill Cemetary Caretaker may be the oldest man in America!  I know this sounds morbid, but I have yet to see actor Daniel Keyes listed in the In Memorian section of any of KLS' Dark Shadows books (and I always check them, believe me!).  So, hopefully Mr. Keyes is still with us.

Jennifer,

"Icky Vicky," I love it!!!  Nevertheless, I think that it was a losing battle for any other actress to take over Alexandra Motke's role of Vicky Winters.  (Maybe if they gotten either Jacqueline Bissett or Katherine Ross to play the part, things might have worked out.)

Annie,

You have GOT to come to one of the DS festivals to meet your main man!  I found him to be a heck of a nice guy, the true Southern gentleman at the fest that I saw him at.

Hey gang,

You gotta love the way that actor Duane Morris (Diabolos) delivered his lines with great grandiloquence yesterday.  By the way, has anyone ever seen a picture of Mr. Morris without that mask and hood on?

Mr. Morris is another one of those one (or two) DS episode performers who have become legendary in time.  You know, sort of like the lovely and alluring Lovelady Powell (Portia Fitzsimmons) or my personal hero/avatar Mr. Bob O'Connell (the beloved Bob Rooney).  Wouldn't it be great if some of these actors could appear at some upcoming DS festival?  (Just think of the thrill of meeting Daniel Keyes, the Mr. Magoo-like Eagle Hill Cemetary Caretaker!)

In addition, I thought that Nicholas was, as usual, sartorially splendid with that color-coordinated gray umbrella he was sporting yesterday.

SPOILER

For another example of great grandiloquence on Dark Shadows, I direct you to actor Peter Lombard (Oberon) in the upcoming Leviathan story line.  I tell you, the guy sounds like a young and upcoming Al Gore!  (Of course, Oberon's associate, Hazar, is silent, but she's very easy on the eyes.)

Hey gang,

If Jeff started going the way of Roger Collins in the "sweeps" department, he could start using that GLH hair spray restorer, that the ubiquitous Ron Popeil is always hawking on those thirty minute info-mercials on the boob tube.

By the way, my all-time favorite info-mercial is that one with Kathlie Lee Gefford and her hubby, Frank, in which they  promote their video, "How To Have A Perfect Marriage" (just like Kathie Lee and Frank!)

You see Kathie babbling away on this talk show-like set with some psychologist about how to have a happy marriage, while Frank seems to stare blankly into space.  (I got the impression that Frank was daydreaming about being in that hotel room with that zaftic stewardess while the they were taping him!)  Oh, what would little Cody think about all of this?

Hey gang,

I would have liked to seen Jeff Clark transform into a werewolf.  Just think of him, positively frenetic as he undergoes the transformation into the wild beast: clutching the hair on top of his head, the hair on his face, the hair on his chest, the hair on his labanza, the hair on his...., well... you get the idea, don't you?

Dear VAM,

Regarding my rash suggestion of the pairing of the long-suffering Maggie Evans and the temperamental Jeff Clark, all I have to say is:

Mea culpa, Mea culpa, Mea maxima culpa!

Dear Cassandra,

Many years ago, (after DS had been off the air for a number of years) I was sitting in an off Broadway theatre, reading the playbill for a show called "Moonchildren."  The play dealt with a group of college students who lived in an apartment building.  Mr. McMillan played the likable (and exceedingly foul-mouthed) superintendent of the apartment building.

Anyway, the playbill listed Dark Shadows as one of Mr. McMillan's past credits.  I sat there, trying to remember just who he played on the show.  It wasn't until the local PBS station started airing Dark Shadows that I saw that the late, great Mr. McMillan portrayed:

SPOILER!!!

Sailor Jack Long who tries unsuccessfully to help the doomed Paul Stoddard escape the Leviathans and also the apparently unnamed Paralled Time 1970 bartender (and Bob Rooney's putative PT counterpart) who runs/owns the Eagle Tavern.  (The place of employment for the immortal Buffie Harrington.)

Then again, Jeff/Peter might have been heading to Los Angeles so that he could "morph" into the lifestyle of Richard Gere's title character in "American Gigolo."

I can envision Jeff/Peter tooling around Los Angeles in that snazzy sports car, touching his healthy head of hair as he picks up some wealthy, mature lady for a "date" on Rodeo Drive, with the sophisticated sound of Blondie singing "Call Me" in the background.  Eat your heart out, Quentin Collins!
