I live inland because who can afford coastal property.  The best Maine accent I ever heard was by a young lady who was born and raised in Bangor.  Her parents were natives of MA.  However, she only used the accent for fun otherwise you could not tell where she was from.

(Actually....how many of the characters on DS ever had the right Maine accent  ???  )

I have lived in Maine for 15 years and have met very few people with the classic Maine accent.  The first time I heard it was from a comedian named Tim Samples and he only uses it during his act.  The accent I hear the most is French-Canadian.  I was told that people who attempt to imitate the Maine accent always over do it.  It always has a lovely lilt when done by a local.
As for the southern accent,  I remember the mini-series "North and South"  and some of the actors sounded ridiculous.  My father is a native of Texas and it irritates him that in the movies all southerners sound alike regardless of where they came from.  However, my mother said my father sounded just like Gomer Pyle when she first met him.  He has very little accent left after living in California for 60+ years.
I hope the new series decides not to use a Maine accent or it will sound like "Murder She Wrote"

Perhaps somewhere above the Arctic Circle.....it's dark 6 months out of the year up there!  Think how much faster the story would move without Barnabas having to run on home to his casket just as things were getting interesting? [smrtasb]

Yes, but it would take Barney so long to unwrap those bundled up babes that he would be caught before he could get a quick snack.

My most coveted DS props would be any of the wonderful portraits featured on the show, along with the head of Judah Zachery. Imagine what kind of conversation piece that head on display in ones home would make.  ;)

The mental image of that in anyone's house just gave me the shivers.  Bob, would you display it with or without its display case and mask?  Yikes  :o

I would love the desk in Barnabas' parlor.  The two lamps on the mantel with the prism glass.

If DS was not  located in Maine where would you think the next best location would have been? I myself would have liked New Orleans with its location near  Martinique, voodoo, the more likely destination of Andre DuPres business ventures. and its otherwise otherworldly atmosphere. We also could have introduced African American actors in the mix.

New Orleans sounds so perfect.  Hot, steamy, sultry.  I can just picture a beautiful old mansion with moss hanging from the trees.  What a great idea, Denise.

I agree with Mark Rainey.  Jonathan Frid was not cast to play a twenty year old.  Ben Cross was also too old to play a twenty year old.  The little sister angle never worked.  If Sarah was a daughter due to an affair,  the age difference would have been explainable.  However,  I am biased since I read a fan fic years ago that was based on the fact that Sarah was Barnabas' daughter.  It made his devotion more believable and his anguish more sorrowful.

Barnabas tells Julia she's being "peevish," and she shoots back, "PEEV-ish?!?!?"

Thanks for mentioning that one.  I thought it was a rare moment of Barnabas being playful with Julia instead of threatening.

There is a scene in 1795 that tickled me.  Ben tells an upset Angelique that Josette and Barnabas went off riding together.  He smiles and asks if it would help her if he got the horses names.

You know, this is what I thought they were heading towards when Vicky first met up with Jerimiah Collins in 1795.  You could see that the two of them had a genuine liking towards one another.  This became more evident as they had more scenes together during that time, more so, that even Joshua had taken some notice of it and in so many words made some kind of remark to Jerimiah about it.

What a good observation.  It was another missed opportunity for a nice side story.  Joshua wanted to fix Jerimiah up with Millicent(and her money).  Anthony George would have been the better actor to play her lawyer than RD.  The character Peter Bradford would not have been needed.  Jeremiah could have continued to harass Angelique even in 1968.

I got the same message as Cassandra.  The board as been loading very slowly on and off for a week.  I thought it was because MB was working on something so I didn't mention it.  It sounds like more people are having difficulties.  I have not been disconnected, though.
