Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Re: Internet Explorer 7
« on: November 03, 2006, 05:39:17 AM »
I hate it. I updated because there are suddenly whole sites (Venturebros.com, mtv.com) that woudln't display. Now that I have IE7, they still won't.

More bad news: Not only does your box still looks like it did in IE6, but occasionally everything disappears, leaving only the red background. I have to hit refresh to get anything.

Current Talk '06 II / Re: Other Barnabases (Barnabii?)

That's one of the stories mentioned in the Companion. On one of the DVDs, DC changes the story to say he picked a "guy in a cape" and it was a wide shot of Frid on a stage. I wonder who else tried out for Barnabas, though...

I read somewhere that Bert Convy tried out for the role before Frid got it. Does anyone know of other noteworthy performers who auditioned for the part?

Live on tape. George Clooney did this with Fail Safe. I'll bet actors would go berserk over it.

Just want to give a heads up - if you live near a Tower Records, they are closing down and have some decent prices. I've been picking up the DS sets for $36 each there.

Looks like fun.  How soon til they announce where next summer's fest will be? (If there is one.) Does it tend to alternate coasts, or is there a chance it will be in NY again...?

On page 133 of the DS Companion, it says that "on one occasion, the incidental noise got out of hand and Frid asked to 'stop tape'. His polite request was just as politely ignored."  Anyone know where in the show's run this took place?

Housefly, I hope you do not think it condescending or anything if I say something of an orienting nature about Jim.

Nancy! Not at all. When I said "Okay, so not super popular here", it was in response to my asking a question about what his role was and how he came into it, and getting more general negativity than facts. I surmised he wasn't particularly well-liked by some, but I wasn't looking for "dirt", just genuinely curious about his role with DCP. I appreciate the responses!

Current Talk '06 II / Re: Best DS DVD Interviews?
« on: October 28, 2006, 06:22:50 AM »
That sounds hysterical.

In truth, it's rare that the major players say anything on the DVDs I haven't read or heard them say before in interviews. I like the lesser known players chiming in - Sy Thomashoff, etc.

What had happened to Louis Edmonds' face before these interviews? Some sort of surgery, obviously, but does anyone know the details?

And I'll go ahead and say the Jim Pierson interview is one of the least revelatory (and he seems to have given himsself all the edit time - older actors just go on and on; Pierson's interview is a rapid-fire edit in comparison.) His interview is like he's explaining the show to someone who's never heard of it- "DS for beginners"  Not sure why it's buried a third of the way into the DVD release. Anyone who's made it to volume 8 surely already knows everything he's saying.

Okay, so not super popular here. But seriously, any background info?

I'm sorry for all the newbie questions today, but can someone explain to me the nature of Jim Pierson's role within the DS universe or with Dan Curtis Productions? Was he a DS fan who got involved with Dan's production company, or was he a Dan Curtis Productions employee who was put in charge of all the DS marketing? Inquiring minds and all that...

Current Talk '06 II / Burning Down the (Old) House
« on: October 27, 2006, 08:13:21 PM »
I've heard stories in interviews about them sending out the Old House set to be repaired, and instead it was scrapped. Can anyone tell me where in the show's run this happened?  Thanks!
